This firmware version package is common to and factory installed on both the 950H LCD and A8H OLED. It works perfectly on both of our 2018 Z9F's with nothing more than a hard reboot, no factory reset.

Any idea on when (whether) the firmware update v6.4738 will be available in Europe?

It is factory installed on NA versions of the 950H and A8H. The Sony Support page added it as a downloadable release for the NA versions of the 49/85X950H models because they did not have the Disney+ app due to their early ship timing. No idea what Sony's future plans are for anything in NA or other regions.

I've been reading up on the MediaTek chipsets in these Sony TV's and it seems that the likely reason that Sony isn't supporting HDMI 2.1 on the X950G and X950H is that the MT5893 (MT5598) only supports 18Gbps HDMI 2.0 connections. The newer MT5895 (S900) in the X900H supports up to 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 connections. As a nice bonus the MT5895 also supports hardware decoding of the new AV1 video codec that is being rolled by Netflix and YouTube. The MT5893 in the X950G does support up to 4K/120p but with the 18Gbps bandwidth limitation of the MediaTek chipset it would only be able to do so at 8-bit 4:2:0.

TV: Sony XBR-65X950G, AVR: Denon AVR-X3600H, Speakers: Onkyo SKS-HT540 7.1, Blu-ray: Sony BDP-S6200 (Region Free), 4K Blu-ray: LG UBK80, Media Players: Nvidia Shield TV 2015, Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K & Apple TV HD 64GB

Question - has anyone else been missing one of the pre-installed silver colored mounting screws for the feet? One side only had one screw rather than two, and it wasn't found in the box or packaging. It seems to be stable with the two darker screws that came wrapped separately, but I'm slightly concerned about long term stability, since those pre-mounted screws seem to hold the weight. I'm also a little leary of going through Sony tech support just to get the screw - my experiences with them haven't been too productive in the past. Does anyone happen to have a part number, or hardware equivalent info that could be used to buy one online or at a hardware store? I imagine the thread size is pretty common...but they seem like unique screws with the non-threaded thicker area meant for spacing/stabilization.

Sorry for the long post about a single screw! Just figured someone might have some insight. Thanks!
My recommendation is to take a picture of the screw you need. Then go on Ebay and search for X950G. There are several people that sell parts from TVs that have broken screens, etc. And ask if they have one. Cant hurt to try.

Like this one. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Missing-dis...UAAOSwo69exCC2

It says 159.95 for any part, but Im sure you could probably get that screw for cheap.

I’m no expert at all. Just telling my experience. The update loaded flawlessly. Only issues I encountered was the Bluetooth issue. No matter what I tried Everytime I tried to turn it on the tv would automatically turn it back off. I didn’t not want to do a factory reset at all and then have to go back and fix my settings. After a hour of messing with it Even doing a regular reset it still would not work. Only thing that worked was the factory reset. As far as the improvements it’s like night and day. No more sound bar arc lag, popping or drops. No more having to log out of Netflix to get Dolby Atmos to work. U don’t have to wait 10 seconds for my sound bar to go to my direct tv audio anymore and also No more having to switch between Dolby digital or Dolby digital plus to get it to read my Atmos. Everything works perfect. Also I noticed that when I shut off cinemotion i can crank up my smoothness all the way up and I don’t get any Soap Oprah effect. Not sure if that would work on my previous firmware tho. So far it’s def been an upgrade.

Dumb question: how do you go about unpairing the remote via the remote control? I don't recall ever having to pair my remote in the first place.

I tried to say the same thing a bit more diplomatically earlier when I said I needed to reset my remote control after updating.

Well Oplasmic figured out what was causing the input lag on his G using the H firmware on the PS4. And I just tested the same thing on my G with the current G firmware. If you have the A/V sync in Audio Output set to ON there is MAJOR lag. As soon as I put it back to Auto which is where I had it the lag was totally gone. So glad he figured this out so anyone that was worried about lag in the H firmware will know it has nothing to do with the firmware, and the same lag is present on the current G firmware if you have that setting turned ON.

Picked up a 65” 950G open box at Bestbuy a few weeks ago. Only had 19 hours on it. As of today it no longer controls my FiOS DVR or my Pioneer elite SC55 receiver via the TV remote. Both were working flawlessly. I am using ARC into the receiver but wasn’t getting audio from the eternal apps so I ran a optical connection and that solved it. Receiver did automatically turn on when the tv was powered on and was able to control the volume with the remote. That stopped working as well. I went thru the cable box setup on the TV and rebooted it a few times. Didn’t help. Any ideas on resolving this?

Scared to do it, but I did it. With initial testing, it does look like it has a new algo with backlight, and it is a lot better! Woo Hoo! Blooming is still there, but it looks much improved so far.

Whenever I switch on my PS4, the tv powers on and switches to game mode with my preset gaming HDR settings. If I switch to my Apple TV, it reverts back to SDR cinema settings. If I turn on a DV program on Apple TV it switches to DV Bright with my custom settings.

When using my Xbox, the TV will not switch to game mode, you have to do it manually. I think it’️s a Sony Eco System feature.

Also, looking forward to giving the H software a try once we get some more info on it. I have it downloaded and ready to go once I am 100% sure it’️s safe!
That sounds like normal CEC is though. Those has been around for awhile. What I did mention is now the UI has an option to select "Auto Picture Mode" which I don't remember in the old UI. Maybe it was there before and just missed it? Either way the new UI is refreshing.
Auto picture mode is and has always been on the 950g. My 900e has it too. My point was, when using a PS4 with a Sony TV you get the ALLM feature where the set will automatically switch to game mode when you power on the PS4. This feature does not work with non Sony gaming products like a Nintendo or Xbox, at leas that’s the case in my experience.

On which ld setting have you noticed that? Medium, high or all of them? I must admit with my stock x950g I can't really see the difference between medium and high local dimming setting so they might tweaked those two...I'm a bit affraid the changed algorithm could crush blacks more for the improved blooming but I'll leave that for others to test or acknowledge...And IIRC when I was watching the Vincent's review of the x950h I noticed there was more of a difference between "medium" and "high" ld setting compared to my x950g.

High setting gives the picture more contrast and makes the picture brighter as well. I had my tv calibrated to begin with. I've never actually seen an OLED tv in person, but I'm thinking maybe this might be trying to mimic what you might see on an OLED. There's more depth, and the picture is a little darker than before updating, and less blooming.

You did not have to pair the remote since it was done for you at the factory. To unpair, you just go to Settings -> Remotes and Accessories -> Bluetooth settings. There you can unpair any device, including the remote. To pair again you either find it in Bluetooth settings or in the Remote Control settings (right next to Bluetooth there).

Personally, I have Bluetooth off, so my remote works without Bluetooth (just IR). To me it works fine (I don't use voice commands and try to turn off everything voice related - I don't want to the TV to listen to me).

950H firmware for 950G

We bought an 85 inch 950G in January and after having constant app lock up issues (youtube TV) and a nasty yellow tint in the green, the set was replaced. Second set was better regarding color but has had the same issue with the YouTube apps frequently requiring hard TV restarts to fix.

PLace I purchased the TV from just said this was a Sony warranty item on the second set and stopped being helpful. I would have changed to a Samsung had that been an option. I found a Best Buy forum where many others were having 950G app lockup issues. That forum was locked down fairly quickly. Sony's tech support line was essentially non helpful. Quick to blame the internet and after verifying the internet was fine still blamed the internet. I eventually hardwired the internet connection with same results. You know there is trouble when Sony questions the 95 mb/sec download speeds when hard wired into their 100 Mbps Ethernet port.

I know we are an outlier in that we actually wanted a Smart TV for it to be actually smart. I have roku sticks which we now use for most part. When we bought these TVs it was to eliminate having to use 3rd party devices such as Rokus. We just wanted nice image quality with convenience of a single simple interface. We also have a Sony 900F in our bedroom and a 65 inch Sony OLED in our main family room. Neither of those sets have had any issues with the Youtube apps freezing up. Only the 950G, the most expensive set of the 3.

Covid 19 brought the tech support to a halt. I still feel the built in apps should work and have not been pleased with the Sony lack of response. A nearly $4K TV should not require a $49 device to do the job it was advertised to do. I doubt at this point Sony will ever address our problems and obviously the local store we bought from has already withdrawn from the mix.

So I am hesitant to upgrade to the 950H firmware due to potential Sony interactions as Covid 19 lockdowns begin to ease. But I do want to ask if anyone who has updated their 950G to 950H firmware if they have seen any changes to how their apps are working. I realize many will not know if they have built in app issues. But for anyone who has seen issues with their 950G's I am curious if the latest 950H firmware did anything to help. Thx

What firmware version is on your set now? If you press the HELP button on your Sony remote, the firmware version will display in the upper RH corner.

Disabling those three settings is the workaround for HDMI ARC connection issues, not sure if they would have any impact on an optical connection (though I'm sure it won't hurt). Have you done a full factory reset since updating your firmware? It is often recommend as it can sort out some minor issues that may crop up when moving from one Android version to another. If you've had your TV calibrated make sure you've recorded all of your calibrated picture mode settings as they will be lost during a factory reset.

That's a good idea - thanks!

Btw, after about two hours on the phone total, I got nowhere with Sony level two tech support - they ended up telling me the stand will work fine without that screw. The screws aren't even listed in the service manual, so I guess there wasn't much they could do.

I'll take the sound cutting out problems back...It could be related to my recently added toslink splitter. I reproduced the problem and then just changed the input on the splitter from 1 (tv) to 2 (htpc) and back and the sound came back. Could be a hiccup on that department and not on the tv. Now I've used one optical input on my avr solely for the tv and the other one for my htpc and ps4 via splitter. I tried to reproduce the problem on this connection and it hasn't happened.

Distortion on 85” X950H? I Just received two 85” Sony X950H’s and the screens look line fun house mirrors compared to our 85” Samsung. Are these defective or a problem with the 85” TV’s? The 65” was fine.

Btw, after about two hours on the phone total, I got nowhere with Sony level two tech support - they ended up telling me the stand will work fine without that screw. The screws aren't even listed in the service manual, so I guess there wasn't much they could do.
If you worried about it, take that screw down to the home depot and buy another in the metric bolt section.

I am currently using version 6.3626 which should be the latest version. The Best Buy forum string was the only one which discussed the problem directly, and then the thread was quickly locked. For me 98% of the problems have been associated with the youtube apps (youtube and youtube TV). We have seen a couple Netflix stumbles but very rare.

Have multiple times cleared cache, cleared data, reinstalled youtube apps. Have done a factory reset. Sony of course fixated on our internet even after proving to themselves it was not our internet. The other two Sony TVs in the house are running fine on the same internet and their built in apps are fine. The TV having the problems is also closest to our mesh network sources. Course going hardwired ethernet kind of eliminated the mesh network part.

But using the built in apps I normally have to force the TV restart daily if I want to use them. Roku, no issues. But really wanted a single remote control, single interface, etc.

I've just installed the "H" update on my 65x950G and all went as well and easily as any other update.
I have not done a reset at this time. I don't use the TV's Bluetooth, etc. as I prefer my AVR for such things.
I've not noticed anything different with the settings interface...should I?
The picture itself seems a bit brighter and more detailed with my current settings...placebo affect?? dunno but better is better

I read there are two schools of thought regarding the reset and may wind up doing it later on, too nice outside right now and a beer is calling my name on the back porch...must go lol.

Thanks to those that do so much to give us a better experience.
For what it's worth I really love this TV and have since I bought it...no regrets at all.

TV: Sony XBR 65X950G, AVR: Marantz SR5014, Speakers: front/Paradigm Prestige 15B bookshelf, center/Paradigm Prestige 45C, surround/Paradigm Atom, sub/SVS SB3000, DVD: Panasonic DP-UB820P-K Disk Player, Media Player: Zidoo Z9S & Roku Streaming Stick +, Remote: Logitech Harmony Ultimate Home

Your X950G and our Z9Fs share the same firmware packages. Our YouTube app’s became stable for us after a previous FW update.

We are OCD about our home network equipment and managing the cable modem, which has minimized streaming issues for us. Here’s what we do:

1). Do not use Sony’s internal wifi, use ethernet cable from the TV to the wifi modem.
2). Use only Blue Jeans Cable BJC C6P Certified CAT6 ethernet cables throughout our home. Read about their testing on their website: https://www.bluejeanscable.com/store...bles/index.htm
3). Reboot the cable modem daily by unplugging the power supply for 10 seconds, then plug it back in (clears accumulated cable modem cache and electrical anomalies, eliminates a LOT of issues). The cable modem and ethernet cables are the first things all streaming content go through; if issues start with either, nothing else will correct them.
4). Leave eARC OFF, it’s been a mess since Android 9 “Pie” was introduced. Sony has been “working on it” but no firmware fix released yet.
5). Set an HDMI port that is directly connected to a cable or satellite tv tuner to a STANDARD signal, not Enhanced as recently recommended in a Sony service notice. Also a mess since Android 9.
4). Replace ALL HDMI cables with 28awg Certified Premium HDMI cables (we use Monoprice).
5). Perform a hard reboot (not a factory reset) of the TV after each firmware update.

edit: if you have a lot of devices connected to your wi-fi router, it might help to periodically reboot the router.

I need help because I am kind of an idiot. This may have occurred after the latest update as everything was fine. I am getting no sound through my Denon 1300W receiver when receiver is in TV audio mode. I am able to get sound through the other receiver modes such as Bluetooth. I have checked all of the settings on that and nothing has changed. Mute is not on, volume is up, cables are securely attached, TV is set on correct setting for the receiver. I am using the Optical Digital Cable. I even switched to a new cable. Same results. The sound on the 950G is working fine when on TV Speakers.
Any help from you experts would be appreciated.
