I am running an Anthem MRX 720, Panny 9000 UHD Blue ray and have a 5.1.2 set up with RSL CG 23's, Speedwoofer sub and their C34E in ceiling speakers for Atmos. I finished off the system with Hue Play backlighting that I set for daylight color. All controlled by Harmony Elite remote with my equipment behind the wall on a rack under my basement stairs on the unfinished side. No issues with remote and it works flawlessly. My family room TV is still my Elite Kuro 8G so I am coming from a Plasma for comparison.

Anyhow, the picture is fantastic and I would not hesitate to buy this TV again. I have had no issues so far. Blooming to me is insignificant and the reflection issue I don't have as the TV is in my finished basement with no windows shining on the TV. Sound with the RSL set up if fantastic and I've tested out the atmos on several movies (Saving Private Ryan and Blackhawk Down) and Atmos is cool. TV is also mounted on a Sanus full motion mount (VE install guys did a great job) and that makes making connections with wires a piece of cake. I have to say watching a 4k movie is awesome on this TV, makes my Kuro 60 Inch look like 40 inch TV to me now. A bonus with this setup btw is Alexa can control this as well. The US Open at Pebble Beach with the Direct TV 4k channel was fantastic. Detail was sharp as hell. I like the off axis viewing as I have nice L couch set up and a recliner off axis and I have sat many time on the recliner and feel no loss in pic quality vs sitting straight on. I have put my Band of Brothers Blu Ray and the picture looks equally stunning to me.

So if anyone is sitting on the fence this 85" is awesome and the Mrs who is not into electronics was like wow when she saw the picture. We've watched movies on Apple 4k as well and the pic looks great. So I'm pleased with the TV.
Thanks for the advice. I'm also currently debating a 77" OLED vs 85" LCD.

I sent you a PM.

Are you a quantity kinda guy or a quality kinda guy, once you answer this simple question you will have the answer on what to buy. I am a quantity kinda guy so send the 85" my way with its 21.9% more screen area

Why don’t you have it professionally calibrated? Will look much better than any settings you find on the internet.

That’s a great service provided by VE. Is the panel ISF calibrated too? I didn’t see it mentioned on their website.

For all the 950g fans, I am in serious consideration of getting the 85" version. I was dead set on the Sony A9G OLED (77" size), but after reading more about the burn-in issues I think I will wait it out until they have better solutions. The TV will be going in the bonus/theater room and usage will be mixed between movies, gaming, sports and TV. Given the mixed amount of viewing that is why I have decided on an LCD instead of an OLED. In general, has anyone done a deep dive in looking at the the 900F versus the 950G in the 85" size? I believe I read somewhere that the 85" 900F had FALD dimming, but I haven't been able to confirm that.

If anyone has any good resources about where to find a good deal on the 950g please PM me. Mods if this final sentence is against the rules of the thread just let me know and I will remove it
85x900g is FALD. Two main difference between f and g.

The g has
1 faster processor
2 wide weiwing angle... at the cost of some contrast.

Of course the g is 25 to 50 percent more expensive depending on the deals available.

Greentoe could be a good source or Cleveland Plasma ( a forum sponsor )

Thanks for that info. It also looks like the 950G is a bit better regarding input lag compared to the 900F (when looking at the rtings.com review). I think that pretty much seals the deal for me regarding the two sets.

I've had both and in my case, the 950G is better. It may just be that I was lucky to get a little better panel. I can't say for sure that the dark corners for every 950G are better than every 900F.

I am returning my Q70R and considering getting the Q80r or the X950G 75” and would like to know how does HDR looks on this panel? Is it bright enough to compliment HDR and how does it handle dark scenes? The Q70R was really dull in HDR and couldn’t get bright enough.

8K and 2.1 HDMI are worthless at this point. I suppose sound would benefit from 2.1, but anything else forget it.
And I know you would be future proof for awhile but nothing is future proof. No 8K content except maybe a few you tube videos and hollywood still is way behind with 4K. Most movies are finished in 2K upscaled to 4K. By the time 8K hits the mainstream the TVS will be way different with who knows what for other technologies they put into the tvs. Why manufactures are acting like 3 year olds pushing new stuff so fast is beyond me. What profit could they possibly make on 8K at this point. They should get 4K and HDR right before pushing the next technology. And Sony any LED this year is trash. Why? they are putting there money in OLED and cutting back on LEDS The X950G black levels are bad and in a dark room blooming issues big time. Seen it with my own 2 eyes.

Either way, personally I'm not too concerned with wide viewing angles, so I hope the contrast/black stays as good as with the X900. I'm more interested in what the new X1 Ultimate brings to the table!

HDMI 2.1 or not? I guess we will see, but I'm guessing it won't it. This isn't a Master Series.

My thoughts are that HDMI 2.1 isn't even a thing to 99% of people, and won't be for another 2-3 years or so, so I don't think it's *crazy* for Sony to release these without HDMI 2.1. I'm an enthusiast and a nerd, and even I couldn't care less about HDMI 2.1 on a TV in this price range with respect to anything but solid future proofing.
Will the average consumer require or notice the benefits from HDMI 2.1 in the next 3-5 years? Probably not.
Will the average enthusiast require or notice in the next year or two? Probably not. And in three years, most of you will probably buy a new TV anyway so whatever. =P
Why do you guys keep using the term ''Future Proof''?,If you been around long enough you know there is no such thing as future proof. And by now you know Sony's black levels suck this year and worse the X950G has big time blooming issues, it's bad. Sony just doesn't seem to care about LED in favor of OLED. Whoever is telling Sony management OLED is the future is sadly mistaken with Micro led around the corner. And if all I read turns out true ,OLED is going the way of the Dinosaur.

As with any new technology, someone has to take the first leap. If no one made 8K sets there would be no impetus for the content creators to produce 8K content. If creators waited for a saturation of devices in the market to be available before creating content and TV manufacturers waited for high availability of content before producing devices then we wouldn't even have black and white TVs. There would be no such thing as Atmos, radio, cars, PCs, cell phones, etc.

It doesn't bother me that much of the 4K content is coming from 2K masters. It is still is better than 1080P. Even 1080P content looks better on my uncalibrated 4K display in my bedroom over my calibrated 1080P plasma in my theater room.

This X950G looks to have promise, but I don't think it will be in any way enough to justify moving from by current X900F for me. Will wait for reviews.
smart man cause as you know by now the 950G ,sony dropped the ball. Stick with what you have and see what 2020 brings. Good move on not getting an OLED because risk of burn in will happen ,the ABL is still an issue and because this is a organic technology the pixels degrade over time ,in fact faster then LEDS. I know people with bash the hell out of me, but OLED in a few years won't be the thing anymore ,micro-led will, no burn in and blacks = or better then oled.
