That's exactly what I am thinking myself

75" Q90 - $4K

77" OLED - $4.5K

What do you do?

Weigh the plusses and minuses of each set against your probable use scenario and then make an educated decision.

Or buy both.

Isn’t this comparing last year’s OLED with this year’s QLED? I’m thinking the 77 inch C9 will probably be $5k+. I think people are estimating the 65 inch C9 will be around $3.5k.

Would this be across all models. My top budget would be for 65" q80, or id even save some cash if the q 70 has earc. I dont need full 2.1, but would be nice. I would settle for allm,
vrr, and earc. If the q80/q70 dont have earc then i will get 55" lg b9 or c9 with warrenty added should be about same cost im hoping. Ive always been a samsung fan but the earc will be deciding factor for me this year.

we don’t know how much the C9 costs yet but we do know the 65” 90r is 3500 and the 65” 80r is 2800. Not sure about the 900 but I think 5k. These prices make OLED seem like a bargain. Just a little disappointed that’s all. Some of us are on a budget.

Hmm, so what is the chance that the OCB of the 4K 2019 Q90R will later get an optional/complimentary upgrade to HDMI 2.1 48 gbps ports/chipset ?

You would imagine if they were doing HDMI 2.1 for the 4K models it would come with that out of the box considering the 8K models do. It would seem strange if they gave you a 2.0 OCB and they sent out another later when they clearly have HDMI 2.1 ones ready.

but LG put 4x HDMI 2.1 48 gbps ports on its 4K 2019 line-up ... so are Samsung and Sony just cheap ?

How about earc for60/70/80/? I mean it only makes sense if rumor is true the soundbar will get firmware update for earc, i would think they would want it to be compatible with there own tv

I wonder if it’s because the only advertised feature difference is 8K resolution input. The VRR and ALLM can be activated on HDMI 2.0.

Not sure if it’s true, but someone posted in one of the OLED forums that LG may not release their new models until the summer because of the large volume of 2018 models on hand. If that’s the case, it may give them more time to implement and produce HDMI 2.1 capable units.

Wait, isn't the Q950R a separate beast (with pricing and such yet to be announced) from the Q900? Does the R make it different, since some people said the Q900 and Q950 are the same thing just numbered differently for region? Just curious. I was under the impression the 2019 Q900's (US) were NOT get the wide viewing angle, etc., but the Q950R was. This all seems more confusing than it needs to be.

In the USA, the 85" Q900R is the 2018 version but the other sizes are 2019 versions (which are called Q950 in Europe).

Yes in Europe. In the USA the 65,75,82, and 98 are Q900R here but called Q950 in Europe.

Thanks. This is where part of my confusion was coming from:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnarc.../#1ad7b55c272e

It made me think the Q950R was a separate and yet-to-be-detailed model. I appreciate the clarification.

It was odd. They had a wall of qleds, all of them q9fn. I live about two blocks from the Americana, I’ll check again next week.

Please post at some point if you see any updates so I don't have to call every week . I only head there to string my tennis rackets at the Racket Doctor down the street. It's good to know though that I can go and ask questions with someone in person if need be. Really looking forward to seeing the Q90 in person. Very much looking forward to the better detail on dark scenes.

Does the Q90r come with the wall mount? I could be imagining things but believe at least some 2018 models came with mount.

They were going to include it in 2018 (at least here in the US, don't know about other regions) but I believe they changed their plans after retailers pitched a fit about it.

Not at all
Me think, it is for pushing 8k and getting a bit more money later with a new ocb
I also remember someone from inside telling me that TVs have to go through certification...so they may have pushed 8k as priority
This explains why we don’t have yet the full list of hdmi 2.1 features nailed yet...

2019's Samsung's Q90 is also available in 82". Sony X95G is available in 85" max. LG and Sony 4k OLEDs max size is 77".
It appears more and more that the Sony x950 (x95g) is really a big step down compared to the Samsung q90 series. Yes, the 85” Sony is bigger, but with a native contrast ratio of somewhere in the 4000’s and less than 100 dimming zones, it can’t even compare to the Q80 for good quality dark room blockbuster watching.

How many zones do you think the Q80 has? If one is better than the other for an individual, it will have nothing to do with the similar zone count. The 950 is also significantly less than a Q80 and priced the same as the Q70 which it has fewer zones.

96 zones? But the Samsung’s have had a much better native contrast ratio too, in the 6000’s isn’t it?
Edit: btw what would be sony’s comparable 2019 TV to the 82” q90? (80”+ with excellent PQ and somewhat “normal” pricing?

I think you're jumping the gun. Wait for reviews and where prices settle. Though it's difficult to fathom on AVS, there's actually more to TV performance than contrast ratio. If it was only about Contrast Ratio vs price or even Contrast Ratio below the 90R or OLED, we'd all own Vizio PQs. Not something I'm personally interested in.
