Watched a couple excellent 4K BR this week on the 82” Q90. Bohemian Rhapsody in HDR10+ was fantastic and Aquaman was jaw dropping! This set is perfect for movies. It’s definitely the best I have owned for watching 4K HDR movies and I can’t imagine anything better coming out anytime soon.

Question Q90R or Q9FN?

a ? question for those that have or considered this tv (Q90R) or Q9FN. Is the wider viewing angle that significant? How much does it cut down on the contrast? I will be coming from any older Samsung LED tv in a fairly large room. Most of the time I sit in a easy chair about 4' from dead center, & the wife sits on the couch the same distance from center on the other side of the room. Both seating positions are about 13' from the tv. The room is fairly bright during the day & we usually have a lamp on at night. We watch a lot of sports and ota programming, along with Dish Network programming. Trying to determine which of these sets best meet our use. I'm sure either set would be a big jump from our older tv

My local Magnolia has the Q9F and Q90R displayed next to each other on a large TV wall along with other high end sets (Sony, LG, etc.) all displaying the same content.

The difference in viewing angle is dramatic, especially past about 15 degrees off axis.

The Q90R is a great looking TV, it has strengths in some areas and drawbacks in others compared to competitor high end TVs. Out of local dimming LCD that's currently available it appears to be the best.

Yes, imo it is significant. Although, from 13ft back and only 4ft off center you will probably be fine with the Q9FN.

I want the best picture available. If I choose the Q90R, am I sacrificing blacks & contrast for wider viewing angle? Is it worth it?

I have the 75" Q90, and it's nothing less than amazing. The measured contrast on the Q9FN is better, but imo it isn't noticeable. At the end of the day pick what you like the look of. Go into a Best Buy and check out both of them.

There's no such thing as "best" because a pretty good chunk of it is based on your personal preferences and what content you consume.

I can tell you that in a demo of Q90F and Q9F the Q90 looked better for viewing angle. I couldn't distinguish contrast differences between the two. Lack of eARC and the artificially bumped EOTF curve on the Samsung have probably ruled it out for me but if Samsung addressed both with a FW update I would really consider it.

Yes.

What's worth it is up to you, honestly. Are you going to be sitting dead center? Are you going to notice the drop in contrast without having the two sets side by side?

Best picture available? Q90 hands down!!

Let’s see...better viewing angles, better FALD dimming algorithm, better backlight stability, more realistic colors, better OOB performance, better upscaling, better motion. The only advantage of the Q9FN is the slightly deeper blacks, but tbh I can’t see a difference in real content.

I have a Q9FN currently and may get a Q90r with a warranty claim coming. Ive seen the Q90r at best buy and I couldn't notice a difference of "less contrast". coming from an older TV, you'll be trilled with the Q90r.

it'll be in there eventually. you can probably pay full price directly through Samsung if you call them. or you can buy a $12 classic remote to use temporarily. I've used the classic remote on all my Samsung tvs because it has a direct button to the menus without having to scroll through the bottom bar to get to it.

Has anyone got ALLM to work when using an Nvidia shield to game stream on the Q90? It just stays in Standard for me.

The q9fn remote works great with the q90r and it's much better quality. The only thing missing is the Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu buttons which in my opinion are useless and lead to accidental clicks. If you must have the original q90r remote, check Samsungparts.com.

Problem with Auto Motion Plus Setting!

I had Auto Motion Plus on a very low setting Blur (3) and Judder (2) and previously "Auto." It was actually introducing stuttering! First noticed during a local newscast yesterday on our ABC station. At times, the picture had a very subtle stuttering to it; several seconds then go away then start again. Then this morning, I noticed this on a crawl on our NBC station during the Today show. The crawl, at times, would start to stutter then several seconds later "correct" itself. Recorded on another DVR and the same thing happened at the same spot. First thought it was our local stations but wanted to see what would happen if I turned off Auto Motion Plus. That "fixed" the problem.

I'm not sure if it's just our TV but that setting is now useless to us. Been trying to watch various sports to see if there's any blurring issues in fast moving shots/scenes. So far, nothing. Golf is coming on now so will look at that.

Would be helpful if someone else wanted to try tinker/emulate this...

I noticed the stuttering with auto motion on even with both set to zero. I always have it turned off no matter what I'm watching.

I had it on a low setting with our old 2010 65" Sammy. It didn't look like the SOE at all. It actually helped out with watching shows on the ABC app thru Roku otherwise I had it off...

Not sure what it's called, but I noticed some strange image issues on my 82 this week.
It's really hard to see through the picture, but if you look where the sky transitions from lighter to darker blue I seem to be getting 'waves' in the color transition. I also noticed the issue while streaming Bosch on my Roku Ultra(wired, not wifi) on an image where the wall behind the persons head was kind of an institutional yellow. The 'waves' would spread out from around the head into the wall color behind them.

Any help on what this is or what can be done to 'fix' the issue?

I am running Slickman's settings from post 2299 & love everything about them so far, but this issue.

Thank for any help!

I read something about that HDMI 2.0 cables (High speed) can't do 4K @ 120Hz. That you need HDMI 2.1 (Ultra high speed) cables for it. Is it true?

Amazon compression waves are terrible on external devices. for Amazon, built in apps always have better compression. if you must use the Roku, the digital Clean view setting has a gradient improver but the setting itself can also erase some texture.

Perfect, thanks!

It has only happened so far either on the Roku Youtube app or the Amazon app.
Guess I'll keep the TV and not take it back to exchange.
