Which cable provider do you have? When I swapped out the old boxes for 4K capable ones, it certainly made a difference for me. HD channels were sharper without the washed out graininess.

If you buy it with AMEX it doubles the manufacturer warranty, FYI

You bet, and they are probably about the same hassle to use......

Those extra years for the credit card companies add on top of the extended warranty and manufacturers warranty.

I believe that is correct. Discover actually cancled their extended warranty benefit last spring.

I used my Amex card to purchase both of my Samsung TVs.

That he is and this case, if there's an AVR, have that pass the signal native as well.

Just wondering - anyone have a picture of the Q80R remote?

Also, how do you like it?

Much better than the controller I have for my older Samsung. Comfortable and just enough buttons to do the job.

It works fine although the silver one definitely looks nicer. I have a Harmony remote that I use to control everything so I don't use the Samsung remote at all.

So i ordered a Q90R through Samsung for my birthday on March 3rd. It finally got delivered last Wednesday. Had it setup last Thursday with Geek Squad and when we took it out of the box, there was a crack in the screen (I'm sure it happened on the way to me in the delivery truck) so that was a MAJOR buzz kill. Last Friday I packaged everything back up and sent it back to Samsung. Samsung confirmed they got the TV yesterday so now I'm just waiting on my refund before I potentially get another TV.

Now that I'm back in the waiting game, I've started to look a lot harder at the Q80. Like a couple others in this thread, I'm upgrading from a 2016 55inch KS8000 which I've enjoyed. I'm wanting to go up to 65' this time around and I have some questions I hope someone can answer...

The HDMI 2.1 debacle/debate.... I've searched daily just about and asked some people in the know that seem to think HDMI 2.1 will happen via an update for the 2019 QLED's... My question is IF this is done will it be through a One Connect Box upgrade or via a software update? If it's done via OCB and with the Q80 not having one, does that mean it would potentially miss out on this?

I saw someone post about the TV's Freesync capabilities... Is it true the Q80 doesn't support 4K Freesync? I saw where someone said it isn't officially 'supported' but you can do it. This is kind of a big deal to me. I just assumed you could until someone posted in here that it isn't supported officially.

I'm sure I'll think of more later, but I have my whole setup basically ready and complete now that I've had to return my TV... I have the new Panasonic 4K Bluray Player UB820 I believe? Xbox One X, PS4 Pro, Direct Tv, new 4k/120hz HDMI cables, etc as well as a new TV stand...

All the while I've been thinking about waiting until April and going with the LG C9 since I do game some (main reason for buying TV is for watching 4K content though) and the LG has true HDMI 2.1 but I'm afraid of burn in as is everyone else.

I like the brightness of Samsung and QLED's so I'm just torn in general. It would be nice to save some money and go with the Q8 vs the Q9.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide and I'm looking forward to the guy who is upgrading from a KS8000 and hearing his thoughts!

Sill love the TV but I feel that I am still seeing DSE and vertical banding on hockey and the like.

It's not nearly as bad as the unwatchable Q6 experience I had .
If I didnt spend close to $2k on this TV it would be more then acceptable.
Vs just playing the panel lottery Im int he process of getting a Samsung Service Tech out here to take a look at it and tell me what they think.
One person from Samsung Tech said they can see the DSE in the pic I sent while another said they couldn't .
It's a tough call..Almost flawless but just enough to annoy.

I'm not seeing anything in the pics that would indicate DSE or banding tbh.

Sorry to hear that. Hockey is proving to be the toughest test for these. Do you just contact Samsung customer service to initiate a service call?

It's really the tough part of trying to capture DSE on a picture with a phone.

I started with Samsung Chat Support yesterday..they had me factory restore the TV and asked me some basic questions..DIdnt seem like that person new too much about banding and DSE or maybe they were just following a script.
They then routed me to a Samsung agent who called me this morning. He was a bit more knowledgeable.
Between these 2 it was split on who could see what in the pics I sent them.

That tech earlier today routed me to their localized repair company who had me take new pics and send it to them via TXT which I did..(attached to this post) . After that the lady I was talking to confirmed she could see the banding and scheduled a repair visit for this coming Tuesday.

I want to be clear that it's not nearly as bad as the Q6 was but it's certainly there so yay for panel lottery.

Sorry to hear about your issues. I'm still having a hard time seeing the DSE or banding. Can you point out where on the pics you see the problems? Unfortunately it's really hard to see from a pic taken with a phone camera. Thanks.

its hard to get a good pic of it with the camera phone for sure.

In the Samsung test photo you can see the banding in the sky area..its almost easier to see in the thumbnail as faint yellowish looking bars..
The DSE is pretty clear when watching hockey live..

Again its nothing at all compared to the Q6 but I see it and its =(

I would say that looks better than average. You won't find an lcd these days that have zero of each. The 2018 models were much worse, even the more expensive models.

My Q80R arrived today. Last years Q8FN (AB03 panel) was a beautiful picture besides the DSE and banding. This years Q80R is also beautiful and on my (AA01 panel) the DSE has been improved which is a plus. However, the panel lottery for banding has not improved and still present. Kind of looks like tic tac toe in areas with both vertical and horizontal banding on my panel.

The local dimming seems to be less aggressive than last year. Some people may like that and some might not. I felt the 1202 update that released back in November 2018 for the Q8FN really out the local dimming algorithm in a good place. I’m hoping they bring 2019 models to that quality with a future update. We will see. These are my day 1 thoughts. Still probably one of the best LED available besides the X950G which is pretty much dse and banding free. The only con with Sony is they don’t have as good color volume which leads to a less vibrant and not so punchy picture. Nothing can beat Samsung’s Color at the moment.

Have a good night everyone

So folks in the Q90r thread are seeing some panels with saturation issues causing wash out and pasty faces. This seems to be the problem I've noticed on my Q80r, particularly with a Directv feed. Anyone else noticing this on theirs?

SpectraCal is offering, starting next month, a version of CalMan that is much cheaper than their previous calibration software for Home Enthusiasts. Once they release it, I will purchase and calibrate my Q80. I will post my settings for you guys to try.

That's awesome. Looking forward to your calibration settings. Should be a good starting point for others to fine tune their sets.

I'll try to tonight or tomorrow. I'll say that using a HD streaming service (Netflix or Amazon) looks significantly better than the Directv HD feed.

Not sure if the issue they’re talking about is related to Directv service. Be curious to know if there’s a quality difference between FiOS One boxes and Directv service.

The TV is significantly better using HD streaming from Netflix or Amazon. It just looks washed out on the Directv HD feed. During basketball, the zoomed in players look OK, but when it goes to the usual zoom out perspective, their faces are pasty with no facial definition.
