I pray these have less DSE than Q8FN's because those were unusable with all the dark splotches everywhere.

Don't be fooled by the "Motion Rate 120" marketing-speak.
I was going to get the 49" as a computer monitor, but I am looking at the 55" now.
How much of a negative is the lower refresh rate on the 49"? The 49" would fit perfectly in the space above our fireplace, which is what has led me to the Q70. The 55" might work, but would have to sit in front of some trim and wouldn't look nearly as nice in the room. I had resigned myself to the 49", but now that I learn it has a lower refresh rate I'm a little concerned it won't be as good of a tv. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Has anyone had a chance to see if this is still an issue. I'm looking to buy mine today, but we watch a lot of TV with the CC on.

Haven't had a chance to really spend time testing this. Sorry.

I went to Best Buy and can confirm that several Samsung models (not just the Q series) had the "strip" above the bezel that I keep complaining about. That makes me feel better. I was just hoping I didn't get some kind of B stock. It just looks like what Samsung does on certain displays. I still don't know the logic behind it but I can live with it.

Im now proud owner of an 82Q70R.

This tv is replacing a 75Q8FN, I enjoy the larger screen, there is no replacement for displacement. Last evening I was able to sit through an NHL game and enjoy it, very little if any dse on this 82, I cant say that about the Q8 which has terrible dse.

Using an Aptv 4k box I use to stream DTVN, most things look sharper and more clear than they ever have. Colors look good and not to much overblown. Brightness is good as well. Watching Avengers infinity War looked better than ever, bright highlights popped and were not overcooked, great contrast, the dimming works a bit better than the Q8. Also watching lower quality content the noise reduction capabilities are an improvement.

Also there is 2 different positions you can mount the stands, inwards or farther out. I will measure those later.

Looks like there will soon be available a Q7D (Q75) model at Costco, Sams, BJs, etc.

How is the viewing angle? I noticed the Q70R is described as "wide viewing angle" whereas the Q80R is listed as "ultrawide viewing angle". Does the Q70R seem any better than your Q8FN that you replaced?

I'm currently debating between the 75" Q80R and the 82" Q70R. I watch a ton of hockey and the DSE from my LG Oled has me itching to replace it.

Anyone out there with the 55? Could you run some DSE tests/Grey Uniformity slides?

The only thing holding me back from a purchase was just how terrible Q8FN's DSE was which I'm afraid will continue this year.

I have the 55 and I have very little DSE. It almost looks edge lit in that regard with a very even looking backlight. The first thing I did was run that hockey DSE test. Nothing jumped out at me so I was happy with it.

It's always a gamble though. DSE party has to do with the actual construction of the panel and the pressure put on the screen. It's always going to be a bit of a lottery. I lucked out. There's another poster that got the Q70R and also mentioned they have very little if any DSE.

If you are on the fence, I'd buy it somewhere where you could easily return it just in case you have any issues.

Any of the owners seen movies/ tvshows with subtitles? Last years models had issues. Mostly they brighten the whole picture a bit for a second especially during dark scenes.

Viewing angles are as good maybe slightly better than q8fn, about 20 degrees off center and do not notice any degradation in the picture. Minimal DSE still there but improved alot over q8fn.

I bought a 55. Hopefully it is free of the 25 dark splotches all over the 3 Q8FN's I tried.

Ordered a 75” from Samsung and it gets here the 28th. Anyone have a mount recommendation? I usually get one from Monoprice and call it good.

Briefly had a chance to play with subtitles. No change in brightness when subtitles are displayed. With FALD and local dimming, it shouldn't brighten the entire picture at all as long as your settings are correct.

I wouldn't rush out and buy the TV based on that though. I'd probably wait for someone that uses subtitles all of the time for a better impression but I didn't see any issues.

Thank you for checking this. Hopefully they fixed it for the 2019 models. It was especially noticable on Netflix. To be a bit more clear here is an example of the q9fn with netflix subtitles in a dark scene:

That was my biggest beef with all FALD Samsung sets last year. They behaved like edge lit TV's and refused to "locally dim"

I really hope they actually put the FALD to use this time around.

I didn't notice any of that. I'd probably want to find a dark scene and test it again though. Something like that is mostly going to be affected by the number of dimming zones on your FALD. The more the better. If you only have a few dimming zones, entire portions of the picture are going to light up as looks to be the case in this example.

I just did Amazon since their return policy is good. They'll even pick it up for free.

I just hooked up x1x to new samsung q70, then tv to receiver. Now i get horrible audio delay, but only playing games bitstream dd. If i choose stereo its fine. If i choose optical it is fine. If i bitstream from the youtube or netfix apps its fine. But if i play a game it is way off.

How do you find the picture quality apart from the audio delay issue?

this is interesting to me as I contemplate purchase of a 75Q8: what makes the Q70 panel itself have better grey uniformity than the Q8 panel? did you just win the VA lottery, or is there something inherent in the panel itself? the latter seems unlikely but hey maybe their production variability is tighter now...

Just got the 82” as a free replacement to my 82” Q6FN because of the horrible ghosting it had. I ran the motion blur for test on this one and it’s a million times better.
