I've had my TV for two weeks still in the box, between bad weather in my area, work, and the baby I still didnt get mine out. Going to shoot for today and hopefully get some comparisons

Getting it together now. The stand is easy to put together at least. Lol. Heres some shots of the undercarriage and the input placement. I'll update throughout the night.

Per the Xbox One X 4k TV details. I dont have an hdmi 2.1 cable yet and I'm just using the cable that came with the One X. It says it supports 10 bit at 4k.

Just a quick settings adjustment for HDR and I'm really liking what I'm seeing.

I'm liking mine more and more as well.

Can't say for sure but, since the latest firmware update, black levels seem (by my eyes) a bit deeper. I re-rechecked all my settings but so far appears none were changed or reset. Perhaps LG made some tweaks due to the blooming that a few were experiencing on their sets.

I'm gonna have to see if I have the newest firmware update installed. When I was messing with the settings and put the black level on high the picture became washed out or "blown" out, almost greyish. And it wasnt just the blacks that looked that way, it was the whole screen, even in SDR. When I put it on low it became much better.

I like it so far. I was kind of kicking myself for not getting the C9 but this specific TV is used just for gaming and sometimes I'm on it 3-4 hours at a time and eventhough I didnt have issues with the C7, the burn in problem still is in the back of my mind.

I think we made a good purchase to be honest.

So the Nano 8 and Nano 9 series don’t have local dimming zones like Vizio?

I'm gonna do a comparison of the X900F and the SM90. Both are in comparable lighting areas and both have an Xbox One X hooked up to them. Will post pics tonight.

Just had my LG delivered yesterday, I got it to replace the Samsung 65 Q6FN QLED TV I sent back due to a cluster of distracting dead pixels. Comparing it to the Samsung, colors are almost as good but blacks aren't nearly as good even though the Samsung was edge lit, I kind of expected this due to the LG's IPS panel but I had thought the FALD would help make up for it more. Blooming is crazy bad, I never experienced blooming until this TV and now I definitely know what it is. In well lit scenes it looks much much better and the brightness is just "enough."

That aside, motion is way better than the QLED in every way and gray uniformity is darn near perfect unlike the Samsung which had some nasty dirty screen effect. Gaming is perfect and build quality also seems way better, the Samsung would make plastic popping sounds as it heated up and cooled down. My only other grip with the LG is the weak wobbly stand it's on but it's up high so I'm not worried.

Off topic but I don't recommend purchasing a large TV from Amazon, they provided return shipping for the Samsung and had UPS pick it up. Well UPS lost it after it landed in Arizona and Amazon won't refund me now, had to dispute the charge with my credit card. The LG I got from BHphotovideo as they have always provided great service and use ABF for shipping.

Cheers

Amazon was horrible when I used to order TVs from them. I use BigSandysuperstore and have had nothing but great experience with 3 purchases.

Here's some dashboard shots, some MK11 shots, RE2 shots, and opening of TDK. Black bars are hard to tell but theres some blooming but it's not bad in person. Blacks are pretty good IMO. I left black level to low and it looks way better than on high. I still have to screw with the settings but I like it so far.

Good pics. With the right settings blooming is much less of an issue although the SM9000 will never match the per-pixel lighting of an OLED.

@Ecwrvd2 , what settings are you using? Bloom doesn't look nearly as bad in your pics as I'm getting. It's also not helping that with this stand I can't use anything under the back to give it a mild forward tilt, if it had feet I would have been able to, the fireplace mantle is up very high and I think the angle is washing out my picture a bit. May have to wall mount it or something.

I do not own a LG SM9000 but the blooming on these SM9010 videos (tvtest.pl/lg-55sm9010-test-wygaszania/) looks very similar to the blooming I remember having on the SK8500. Straight from the front the local dimming was pretty decent, but at an angle it quickly started to look awful. It was the main reason I returned my SK8500. IPS is known for its wider viewing angles, but the local dimming doesn't work well at an angle.

P.S. Sorry, can't post proper links because this is my first post.

I have the black level on low and the dynamic contrast set to high. I like the pop of the colors. When I set the black levels to High it becomes greyish. I also updated the firmware last night. I had to manually go in and start it in the menus. I'll post my settings in a dew minutes.

Edit: mine is just on a normal TV stand so its straight on eye level with my recliner in the "gaming" room. I'll have to check the angles and snap some pics tonight of that for you to see if its comparable

How would you compare this TV to an Sony 900F? I was either thinking of getting this TV or Hisense H9F but they taking forever to come this month.

I just picked up the 55" for our family room. This isn't our main display, so I won't bother to get is professionally calibrated unless I have Gregg Loewen come out to do my HT room display again, however this TV is an upgrade over our current one so I had two questions:

1) Is there a place to reference recommended setting for this display?

2) Is there anything that needs to be done to "turn on 4K" (e.g. flip a setting to get full resolution from the HDMI ports, etc.)?

As I get more familiar with this set, I will be happy to contribute here to help others out.

Thanks so much.

I like the colors more on this set and the blacks arent bad at all. I would say they are equal enough to say that you couldnt go wrong with either of them.

I would say this set because of HDMI 2.1 and that's a big feature for me.

HDMI 2.1 is a huge feature to me as well but I won’t make a purchase until FReeSync support is officialy confirmed

As AMD has with Samsung as seen here

It should be even more likely but you never know. Especially since I want my next TV to be Xbox Scarelet compatible with all those Green check Marks. Which Microsoft will no doubt add 3 More.

Dolby Vision
FreeSync or FreeSync 2 which enables HDR without adding lag.

The LG REP told me this: The #SM9000 series (65" & 55") will receive a firmware upgrade mid-year that adds support for 4K HFR, ALLM VRR and eARC. ^IV

Is that good news for us???? If so I'm going to buy this TV this week. Please let me know, thank you.

Great so it’s like VRR is an open standard under HDMI 2.1 and not a name brand FreeSync or Gsync.

I just purchased my 55 inch LG SM9000 today on Amazon getting it on Monday. Since you have the TV for awhile, you got any tips on picture settings or game settings tips? Any thing would be grateful and you still enjoying it?

I finally got eARC working with the 55SM9000 and was able to pass both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X signals through the TV to an Atmos/DTS:X compatible soundbar via hdmi.

FYI, it does require using at least an 18Gbps hdmi cable. I initially tried a Monster high-speed cable (10Gbps?) but got no sound and the image from my LG UHD player looked like a 2 or 3 player split-screen!
