Question 55 inches at 4-6 feet viewing distance is 4K wasted ?

So I’m finally joining the 4K team. I have several components that don’t need HDMI 2.1 yet such as a HomeTheater PC Core i5, and Xbox 360 to play Marvel vs Capcom 2. A Nintendo Switch, a PS3 and 4K HDR Streaming via NetFlix
That’s 4 HDMI inputs. All are 1080p

My question is how badly or well does 1080p Upscale to 4K and I’m usually 4-6 feet away from the TV, I’m buying a 55” Hisense H9F I order to Save my budget for a 65” unit in 2020 and support for HDMI 2.1 TVs like a Sony with FreeSync 2 support to go along with the PlayStatoin 5 and [email protected]

Here’s my TV for 2019 as a stop gap and to buy time.

Am I wasting time buying a 55” TV ?

55" is correct for that distance. But you are quite close so you will see potential deficiencies in upscaling. If I was going to sit that close I would absolutely want the best upscaling TV.

Sony MASTER Series | harman/kardon AVR | Klipsch Reference Premiere | KEF UniQ | PlayStation | Mohu Leaf | Hue Play | MediaLight | logitech Harmony | CyberPower PFC UPS

4'-6' away is actually a pretty significant range approximation where there could be quite a difference between what you see from 4' or 6'. Think of it in terms of viewing a given TV from 10' or 15', which most would consider a significant range and which represents the same 50% difference as 4' to 6'. You might easily find image quality from 50% further away to be perfectly acceptable but from the closer distance to reveal at least minor issues.

Yeah at 6 feet you won’t see 1080p let alone 4k. At 4 feet you might if your eyes are great notice

i recently added a 55" to my arsenal and i have to disagree. If you think you can't tell the difference between 720p and 4k from 6ft away you are greatly mistaken lol especially if you have a tv that has subpar upscaling in the 1st place. You might not be able to pixel peep, but the overall picture refinement and clarity of the picture is apparent. the cleaner/sharper edges makes the picture appear much more 3D, which can be seen farther than people realize.

It depends on what's doing the upscaling, but since you asked in a general way, I'll say: really well. What we call "4K" in the TV realm is exactly double the width and height of 1929x1080p. It's also exactly triple the height and width of 1280x720p, so that also upscales really well (distinctly better than 720 -> 1080).

57 channels and nothing on
