Samsung Q90R user settings and links.

I have combed through the Q90R owners thread and compiled the user settings found there for convenience. I am also going to include links to review sites that have published calibration numbers they are using.

General tools & tips for calibrating UHD HDR tv

Reset individual input rather than factory refresh:

HDMI AUTO DETECT TOGGLE

The HDMI Auto Detect feature can be turned off using the remote control by pressing a certain key sequence (either IR or Bluetooth remote works).

1. Make sure TV is updated to latest firmware version
2. Switch TV to TV source – HDMI may not work with BT Smart remotes. TV source works with either remote
3. Using IR Remote: Mute + 7 + 2 + 9 + Exit
4. Using Smart Control: Mute + Vol Down + Ch Down + Mute

PLEASE NOTE: TV does not display any messages after you press the above key combination. This function is a toggle. So if you want to turn HDMI Auto Detect on again, press the same key sequence.

After this is done, you should be able to edit the device type regardless of what the device actually is, and the TV will "believe" the new definition. In the past I've used it to label HDMI A output on a Denon AVR as "Blu-Ray Player", and HDMI B output as "Apple TV", instead of having the TV automatically recognize and label both inputs as an AVR.

Early not professional:

I use these settings for HDR and SDR:

Intelligent Mode Settings ............. Off
Eco Solution ............................... Off
Picture Mode .............................. Movie
Digital Clean View ....................... Off
Auto Motion Plus ......................... Off (I'm sensitive to Soap Opera Effect)
Local Dimming ............................ Standard
Contrast Enhancer ....................... Off
Film Mode .................................. Auto2
Color Tone .................................. Warm2
White Balance ............................. Default
Color Space Settings .................... Auto

Natural setting:

Picture Mode Standard
Backlight 22(can be changed to your preference)
Brightness 0
Contrast 36
Sharpness 2(Personal preference, I wouldn't go higher)
Color 22
Tint 0
Digital Clean and Automotion Off
Local Dimming High
Contrast Enhancer Off
Color Tone Warm2
Gamma BT.1886 -1
Color Space Native

Give these a shot on your set. Color space Auto made teal look like blue so I stick to native there. Gamma -1 gives a slightly punchier image and just looks better to my eyes. Cheers

Game mode settings

I've found the perfect medium for game mode(in my opinion of course). Contrast Enhancer High was a bit too bright and Low looked good but wasn't quite bright enough. The perfect setting to my eyes for game mode HDR is contrast enhancer high BUT with overall gamma brought down 1 click to -1. My full game mode HDR settings are below.

Backlight 50
Brightness 0
Contrast 46
Sharpness 2(Personal Preference)
Color 22
Tint 0
Local Dimming Standard
Contrast Enhancer High
Color Tone Warm2
Gamma ST.2084 -1
Color Space Native

Ambient mode reset

For those who don't use it and would like to disable it, you need an older remote with numbered buttons. Turn the TV off. Press mute+1+8+2+power. May need to do this a couple of times. Once the service menu comes up, select Options, then MRT options, then scroll all the way to the right. Select Ambient Screen Support the use the right directional button to turn off. Power off the TV then back on and it should now be disabled.

Please note that my picture settings were reset after leaving the service menu so you should note what your current settings are.

Slickman’s settings could need adjustments:

DUTCH REVIEW SETTINGS

S13 tips: For sdr in a bright room I like standard mode. First rest to default settings. Then change contrast to 45, sharpness to 5, color to 20, digital clean view to low (off if it's sdr Blu Ray disc), motion is subjective you gotta tweak around, local dimming high, contrast enhancer off,.color tone warm2 (warm1 if you prefer cooler. Gamma -2 (-1 or zero if you prefer more shadow detail but less vibrancy), color space native. Start with these and tweak to your liking.
