I have no dog in this fight but seeing 2nd tier TV manufactures playing at this level is only good for buyers and surely putting some concern into the big boys of the club. Looking forward to more reviews on the Hisense and the new 6 & 8 series.
I meant that in the reference to its largest size.

for all those complaining about which year's models. It's the 2 models that are currently available and the 2 they reviewed so there is no bias on Rtings part. Could they get it wrong? Sure but they are not biased. To a fault at times but there you go. The new TCL will likely be improved when it arrives but it will still be a 60hz panel. Any other differences one notices between these specific sets could come down to something as simple as settings. Last year's Hiscene was not as good but these are the currently available items. Is there room for opposing opinion, certainly but claiming that Rtings is biased is rather silly. Their entire process is designed to remove bias.

The 6 series will be 60HZ, The 8 series will be 120HZ. This thread has deteriorated into looking at what has been and not what's coming..

Sooo, we're not getting the 75 in Europe (just the US) and no confirmation of the 8K size.
Bad move TCL.

Oh nice. I'm not sure exactly what scoring method they'll use - it'll be close whatever it is. Good luck*!

Yeah did you notice the price on the 65"? Cheaper then what TCL listed it at. They are selling at buydig for 8 Bill's. That's for the 65". Interesting.

Yep, as I expected TCL is going to launch cheaper than their MSRP. They did for the 75 inch 6 series earlier this year. I mean, if I wasn't already sold enough...

PLEASE release BEFORE October though... Guh. Killing me lol.

That site has the 55" for more than MSRP but the 65" for less than MSRP. Anyone know if Buydig.com is a reputable dealer?

Do we suspect it will launch at $799 in store/at Costco or is this just buydig's preorder price? Ive never been an early adopter because there's so much unknown but at that price I would jump. I'm just worried about the panel lottery. If I go through buydig I'm getting the squaretrade warranty, but if the panel just has DSE I don't want to be stuck with it. Costco has no hassle returns and an excellent extended warranty.

Really never heard of them till I Googled the 65''.
Really don't know anything about them. They are the only one showing it on a Google search.

Buydig is an authorized seller for Sony tvs and LG. It's definitely reputable. But they will cancel an order if the price is incorrect and While I know doing a return for dead pixels on a display is simple and they'll pick up the tv. If it's something like DSE my concern is they won't treat the return reason the same.

I just read 10 pages here and got all caught up as I'm excited to learn about these budget friendly TV's.
A few thoughts...

1. As a big Sony fan, I'd be very excited to see how Sony's competition (next year's 9xx Series model) compares with the new 4K 8 Series TCL. Or, for the same price, the X950G vs. the TCL 8 4K in 75". Specs and features are one thing, but real world performance doesn't always correlate. I don't really know much about quantum dot tech, so I can't comment there. More zones is definitely great, I just hope that their processing / algorithm is worthy.

2. I know that it's been "confirmed" that the 8 Series is a 120Hz panel,. but hmm, I wonder if by any chance that refers only to the 8K version of the 8 series?? *fuels the fire*

3. I wonder if they'll release a 75" version of the new 6 Series (625?). I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't - 75" sizes are premium / high-end, so I could see them reserving that size for their highest-tier model... but that would kinda stink IMO. Currently, I'm only interested in TCL for one reason.. the budget-friendly 75" 6 Series. The value is incredible there. 65" TV's are all pretty cheap now.. if you hold out long enough you can get a high-end Sony or Samsung for a grand. It's the 75" + sizes - today's true "big screen TV's" - where prices really jump. The 75" TCL 6 Series is nearly half the price of the next best option. If the cheapest 75" TCL is nearly $3000... no matter how well it performs... eh, good luck selling them. Can't see a whole lot of folks shelling out more for a TCL than a Sony/Samsung unless it absolutely wipes the floor with the Sony (visibly on the showroom floor). Hey, perhaps they will! I hope so because I'm an LCD fan these days, and obviously the dedication to PQ has been a bit lost there as of late.

That said, I did buy the NU8000 for Spider-Man (much like you're upgrading for Gears) and it delivered big time on that front. Gaming on Samsung is effing legit. I adore it. I just can't handle watching movies or shows on this thing. and it's pretty much a 50/50 split for me between gaming and movies. The plasma is still running circles around my NU8000 for movies.

The TCL 75in is on my shortlist currently. I hope you love it!
Well yeah.. as you know, that's because you purchased an edge-lit TV. Nothing wrong with them, but they can't compare when it comes to backlight / black levels. I went from a Plasma to my Z9F and have no complaints. The black levels and motion might be *slightly* inferior with the LCD, but it's certainly nothing that I notice or would complain about. The HDR is fun so I feel it's a fair trade off for the Plasma's contrast. This really depends on your viewing environment, though. In a dim room, the peak output of the Z9F is kind of wasted in my eyes. That's why there is no "one size fits all' TV. Your choice really does depend on your exact viewing habits / environment.

I am in the market for a new TV and the new series 6 - 65 inch has caught my attention.

But after reading all the issues that the 2018 model had, there is no way I am buying this TV from any on-line seller.

As far as TCL has come, they are still an infant in this industry and with that comes risks.

I am hoping Costco gets it in stock because you can't beat their return policies or their extension of the warranty (an additional year), especially if you charge it to the Costco Citi card which adds another 2 years.

4 years of warranty can't be beat!

Does just buying it at costco add a year with your membership? I didn't realize that if so.

Looks like mistake as Beach Camera mobile site shows pre-order Ships 9/18/19 - 10/31/19 for both models but full site shows in stock for me as well. I bet submitting the order on full site would get email stating thanks for your order, will ship this when we receive it from manufacturer. No hint of the 2019 models on Amazon, BB or Walmart either. I am staying hopeful for last week in September for availability.

I'd really like to be able to get this at Costco, but doubt that will happen. Mine just got a big load of 55R615 and 65R615 (or whatever the Costco product no. is), the first I've seen them in stock before.

differences 60Hz vs 120Hz for non-gaming

For anybody who's upgraded from a native 60Hz to 120Hz panels, what noticeable differences or improvements do you see with your non-gaming content (movies, broadcast, cable, sports, etc.)?

Question:

Was watching some 4k videos on my Firestick. One video started off SDR, then it kicked into HDR. I find that odd, so I pressed Select, to see the HDMI input, it said HLG HDR.

Uhh... when was this device updated to HLG, or is this some weird glitch?

If it does really do HLG, what apps work with it?

With each passing day it's more and more worth waiting. It's September 12th. I've been placing my bets on the new 6 series being released September 18th. This "end of summer" release ambiguity is infuriating lol. We can really only guess via buydig's listing of the shipping date as early as September 18th, but as late as October 31st (which would suck sweaty butthole).
