My test movie for the softening has been 300 on Netflix. Anything above 10 on sharpness shows a lot of noise, and there's still some at that level.

Edit: the noise is still somewhat present when playing with noise reduction in the app, although at the recommendation of everyone else I'm trying to keep that to off.
To be fair, I was watching the Blu Ray edition of 300 on my 65R625 through my Sony UBP-X700 4K player last night and that was very grainy. I'm pretty sure that is directors intent with the cinematography. The Matrix Trilogy in 4K UHD is another film set with tons of intentional grain.

I assume you meant: "though it could be in my head "

It is in your head. From your photo I would say that's as good as it gets.

Keep it and enjoy.

Sharpening should typically be off for 1080p and 4K sources as it can exacerbate grain and small featured textures appearing like noise, It’️s more useful with interpolation or specifically soft sources. If it’️s intermittent, it could simply be that you are dropping streaming quality due to internet connection fluctuation.
Some recent testing of the 2019 6 and 8 series sets seem to indicate that the factory sharpening setting of 20 is basically 0. Anything lower than that us actually softening the image. I had noticed that when I first got the set and ran the Spears & Munsil disc through it.

If anyone is concerned about the minimalist faults on this set, you are truly missing out.

But, hey, if you want to spend double or even triple the money for another TV that has it's own set of problems, go for it!

This thing rocks. The colors are so deep and vibrant and the motion flow is VERY good for what I watch like NHL hockey and other fast moving sports.

Maybe someone with a trained eye who is anal about the finest of detail will notice something, but for us average Joe's, this TV is spot on.
I'm totally woth you. I mean, I really loved my 2018 6 series I had. So much in fact, I had two of them throughout the house. the 2019, to me, is a pretty decent step up. I feel it has noticeably better contrast, more HDR "pop" and much better local dimming. It is also quite a bit snappier when it comes to input lag. I may be in the minority but I also really dig the new styling.

Has anyone else had any trouble getting Windows 10 to detect HDR? Running a RTX 2080, have 2 other 1440p monitors running off DP and TV running of a "highly rated" HDMI 2.0 cable. Have they released drivers for this TV?

Is it just me, or are the viewing angles exceptional for an LCD? I've watched the Rtings video a few times now, and even compared it to my own TV and it kills it. I'm impressed.

Anyone have any experiences with off angle viewing to share? Seems like the quality is pretty damn solid to a 40% angle.

I haven't done anything with drivers. But now that you say that I kept getting DX errors trying to play battlefield.

But HDR was picked up just fine. Are you talking about turning it on in Windows? Or having something like Kodi trigger it. Both methods work for me.

Man I have felt the same way. My previous Samsung 6 series was awful unless you sat dead center. I feel like I can sit anywhere on my couch and it looks great.

If I want to sit down and watch a Naked and Afraid marathon how will it look?

That's a very difficult question to answer. Which one are you using?

This was a major concern of mine choosing this set as well. Considered strongly getting a Sony set for all the things I heard about superior processing.

I have Xfinity cable and its about 70% of our TV watching unfortunately. I have their new 4K STB. I previously had a Samsung KS8000 set so thats all I can compare the 625 to in this regard. I can say that the 625 handles cable's dogsh*t signal just as well and with the quantum color maybe it looks a tad bit better.

I dont know how good the KS8000 was in upconverting cable sources but thankfully the TCL doesn't do worse. This may have been a dealbreaker with this set in my case.

Forgot to include streaming. I'm streaming FUBO TV right now but getting ready to switch to YouTube TV to see if the picture quality improves.
Also thinking of going back to DirecTV.

Coming from a plasma, and hearing how bad this TV was if not watching dead on all I can say is HUH? I think it looks great from off center.

I am starting to think people are doging this set because they are either uneducated or have strong alliances with other brands. Either way, their loss.

Streaming 4K will always look better than cable or satellite since they compress the signal so much, that said, I have Dish Network and their HD feed looks stunning to me.

Can't remember are you on a current version of Windows? Might need to update. I would try a driver install with just the tv. Also is the input on the TV set to HDMI 2.0. 1.4 or auto won't work.

rtings gives it 5.7 out of 10, worst being 4.6 and best being 8.9.

Had to manually select HDMI 2.0 in the settings for the input, strange, what's the point of auto then >.<

Anyone out there getting errors trying to apply the software update to 9.1.2 build 6431 from build 6125 on their 65" If I manually check for the update, it finds it and starts the download. About 50% of the way through, I get an "internal error" with error code 004. Not a huge deal - just curious if others are seeing this.

I have not. I checked yesterday and had no update. Recent update was the 11th I believe.

On that note anyone know if release notes are ever put out for these updates? Would be cool if they were doing specific upgrades for certain TV's. (And making that info public)

Edit## I can confirm that 6431 is the build I'm on.

Can somebody fire up the Netflix show Test Patterns?
Season 4 Episode 1 You can check linearity and banding
Season 1 Episode 1 or 2 you can check for judder handling (compare to episode 5 which is 30fps)

I'm curious to see if there is any difference between external sources like a firetv (will send all that over 60p) vs internal apps.

There is a lot of sh** online posted by people who rightfully don't know what they are talking about and are not paying attention to the mechanisms of various settings in their comparisons. I propose that we keep our eggs in order and so in posting notes in this thread, it would help to follow the template and provide context so that we can have a consensus on what is working.

Post Header Suggestion to copy and paste to keep track of settings along with issues:
  • TV size: 55 / 65
  • What Source: TV Apps / FireTV / Shield, ETC (don't just say netflix, say whether it's through the TV or external box/stick)
  • Picture Mode: Movie (changes lookup tables and will effect banding)
  • Backlight Level: ## (changes dimming and reportedly effect motion, try 60)
