Yeah those are the 2018 models, the R617's. Or R615's whatever Costco's specific models are. Good prices though.

They are R613’s at Costco. But they do have the voice remote like the R617 unlike Best Buy’s R615.

Well, you never know but that was what I thought at first until I thought about the specs. Last year's models had "CMI 120" claimed refresh rate, but this year has "240 Natural Motion" like both model specs shown.

But, of course it would not be the first time that Costco mixed up the text in advance advertising.

I made a video of the image processing issue, Video link and documented the frame-by-frame of the motion issue that makes motion looks smeared. You can see how smooth shapes are getting posterized with sharp edges, losing gradiation of tones.

Don't know what to look at in the pic but that video that has some weird horizontal banding bleedthrough or what not at 500 and 1000 looks hella weird. What test was that and what exactly was that?
I don't know, tcl has some image processing that you cannot turn off that is getting twisted with repeating patterns somehow.

On the pic, it's hard to tell but you can see that the gradients are the becoming blobs of color in some parts of the image. This happens with motion on the 625 but only with specific tones and changes which is why I think people have been reporting inconsistent motion issues. I don't know if the two issues are related

Oh, the test is the show test patterns on Netflix, let it load until 4k and 15000kbs at 10bit(says on the top right)

Considering either hisense h9f or tcl r625.
Picture and Blacks seem better on the tcl. Motion seems better on the H9F.
Is motion really an issue on the tcl r625?

Another separate question. Are dirty screen effects a big problem with this tv?

I’ve got some weird shadowing that’s just started with my 65” 6 series. It’s not dse, but something else. The shadows change in size and location from incident to incident. It goes away if I power cycle the tv. Any ideas? Thanks.

I don’t think it is dse. I have some of that and it’s much different looking. I’ve had the tv for a little over a year and this is a new phenomenon. And I’m a little past returning it, too.

DSE is not a singular thing as much as the resulting appearance of potentially multiple problems. Looks like you have backlight zones that are dead or dying, or being adressed strangely by the dimming algorithm. Try unplugging the TV, press the power button a couple times (drains some capacitors), give it a 15 minute rest, plug it back in and see if it's still going on.

That looks like what has happened to my 65R615, two or three times over the last year. It was the LEDs or Dimming Zones. I needed to reboot the Tv to fix it. And, for me, each time it happened, it occurred when I started using my ATV 4K. No idea why that would make any difference though.
But it hasn't happened in many months now. I think not since the June software update.

For lack of better way of putting it, my take is that it's highly subjective. If you read through the whole chain, you'll find a lot of conflicting opinions. Some people (in the last few days) have been doing some interesting analysis of the image quality that seems to indicate that the motion "issues" may be related to image processing of some kind that can't be turned off.

Regardless, also if you read through the chain, you'll notice some people returning the set because they don't like the motion handling and other people not experiencing any displeasure in their viewing and having no idea what could possibly be at issue with the motion handling.

I'm mostly in the latter camp -- I don't see any particular "problem" with the motion handling and certainly the motion handling issues that might be there do not, for me, offset the other positives of this TV (such as raw image quality and the interface).

Ultimately, it's a TV in the lower/mid range of price and it's up against basically two other TVs -- the Vizio M Quantum and the Hisense H9F. Those are probably both very nice televisions also; none of the 3 brands/models are going to be as overall capable or great as something like a Samsung Q80 or Q90.

Overall, it is going to be a subjective decision for everyone based on the totality of a number of factors. The set works great for me and my needs. Other people may value other factors in other ways.

Wow those look like some serious issues, might actually turn me off of buying this TV if they aren't fixed in a firmware update. Has anyone else tried to reproduce these yet? Even not being able to disable sharpness is really dumb.

I'm sure you will be happy with it. I am over the moon about mine.

My parents got a 70" m series, I can believe how dull the picture looks compared to the 625. Its night and day.

One thing with the r625 is that it doesn't have a sdr calibrated mode so it just punches colors through the roof in movie mode in non wide gamut space content. You have to dial down color by quite a bit to match intended colors.

PC Richard & Son. They have assured me they are taking care of my shipment and if anything goes wrong they will just pick it up and replace it. So we shall see! I have my fingers crossed.

I hope so! I'm so much more worried about damage and quality control. I bought it knowing that I will have to live with a little DSE, which I absolutely can do (I actually like the vignetting), as I watch a crap ton of dark content anyway. That's really what led me away from my edge lit NU8000. The dark content just did not look good. Everything dark was way too bloomy and washed out. I hope a full array really solves this issue. I watch alooot of horror movies and video games, Dark Knights, etc. If I have to live with some faint vertical lines on the screen in daytime/bright scenes, just to get deep, detailed lush dark scenes... I'm totally OK with that!

Yeah I hear that. I bought a 5 series(which has a wide color gamut) this past week as a hold-me-over (I'm going to use it for the bedroom) until I get the 6 series, and I've been battling with HDR vs SDR settings. Though not a great TV, it's all really fun to me. I can spend hours "calibrating" TV's to my eyes and I think I've got all my presets to the exact right place. I did have to dial down SDR a bit, but it wasn't too bad!

QLED will probably present more of a challenge in matching correct colors but I'm ready. I hear the TCL pre-calibration is pretty horrid. Thankfully I have a reference Plasma TV to use with all of my test movies to dial in SDR stuff and help not going overboard with HDR. and I'm an artist, so I have a great eye for color and accuracy!

shut off HDR?

Hello,

I have been trying to shut off HDR / Dolby Vison on the R625 however the menu that would access this on previous models does not have HDR settings in it on the R625.

The command I have tried is Home Button (5x), Rewind, Pause, FastForward, Pause, Rewind. Which opens a menu, but there are no HDR settings in that menu.

Is it possible to shut off HDR / Dolby Vision?

Thank you

To add to that.. A few of us had some bad motion issues as if frames were dropping during the first few days of our ownership. Surprisingly and unexplainably, those issues disappeared on their own. It also seemed to be very dependent on the source at the time. For instance, the show I was watching had bad choppy motion, but the commercials in-between the show were fine. It was weird and it hasn't really come back(for me) since those first couple of days.

It is better to ask for forgiveness, than it is to ask for permissision - the WAF factor

What cable are you using for yours? Make sure you have both the TV and soundbar using the HDMI ARC port.
Mine has this same issure, whenever I switch apps, the sounds is gone. I then have to change the input on the receiver, and then go back to the TV input to get the sound back on.
ANY IDEAS? Any luck fixing this issue?

Does anybody suffer from ARC to soundbar audio delay? Engadget just posted a mini review for this set and that’s the claim, the claim upon quick search is that all Roku TV’s have been plagued with this issue.
