Yeah I think the more you run the app it will get it alittle better:

I can’t remember if I went back and tried the app again after a proper calibration. That’s what someone needs to do though. Someone needs to actually measure how well the app is performing and evaluate actual data.

I’m not sure that I will ever bother though lol. It’s not something I enjoy doing. It’s just something I do when I’m too cheap to pay for a professional and even then it’s only for a non-primary display in a bedroom or something. I can’t exist in my home with a display that hasn’t been calibrated, but I’d much rather pay someone else to do it. It’s way too complicated and cumbersome and mentally exhausting for me. The good news is that, unless it’s a lamp based projector, there is no drift. Unless something goes terribly wrong you only need to do it once per input.

With my TCL it came at the expense of a lot of time and education, but it’s as close to perfect as I can get it without a lot more time and a massive investment in a better meter. With my LG it came with a $600 price tag, but I know it was done by one of the very best and that comes with significant piece of mind and the overall cost of the TV kind of justified it.

Roku Media Player was updated a couple of days ago. Still has the same issues with certain 4K HDR files. At this point I kinda doubt it will be fixed.

HDR BRIGHT Flicker issue - weird finding today

I have been in touch with both Roku and Amazon for a couple weeks trying to resolve the HDR Bright flicker problem. For me, this problem has always only happened in the Amazon Prime app. VUDU, Netflix, etc...work without issue on this setting (I have the 65r625). A few week ago, 4K UHD shows on Prime completely stopped streaming in UHD. Even though I would choose, say the show, Hanna's UHD seasons, the TCL would default to non-UHD streams. This has been happening for every single show/movie on Prime that has 4K and Atmos content.

Oddly, today I tried Jack Ryan Season 1 just to see if the UHD was working again and BOOM! IT WAS! Not only was it working, but the HDR Bright setting has absolutely no flicker issue!! Same with season 2. Now for the weird part. Jack Ryan seasons 1 and 2 are the only show that is working like this. Hanna, Bosch, Hunters, My Spy, 7500, The Boys - you name it - all are resorting back to the SDR settings.

What all of this means, I have no clue. I've always thought the HDR BRIGHT flicker issue needed a Roku Update to resolve it, but now with this finding, I wonder if it is an Amazon Prime App issue? No idea, just wanted to share my findings.

I have read every page of this thread btw, and I am happy to have found it!

This is my setup:
1. NO external device.
2. I get Prime Video through the Dish Hopper 3(4K).
3. The Hopper 3 is connected to Onkyo(TX-RZ820) AVR HDMI 2 input.
4. My TV is TCL 55R625.
5. About ten minutes ago I tried Bosch S5 Ep 10 4K HDR with DD+ 5.1. It was smooth as silk.
6. Then I went with Jack Ryan S1 Ep 2 4K HDR with Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 without any problems.
That's it.

Any chance either of you two's TV's updated? The 8 Series is suffering from the same Amazon Prime no-HDR bug. Would be great if it was fixed across all devices, but feels like that would have to have been a Roku update.

I mean, that's great if that's what works for you but TCL HDR and Prime Video app were working fine a month ago (with the exception of the HDR Bright problem).

The correct setting is HDR Dark. Asking them to fix an issue with HDR Bright is like asking them to fix a “VIVID” picture mode. Being wrong is it’s natural state.

Trust me, I've read all your love for HDR Dark haha. I get it, it's supposed to be "right" - but it simply doesn't work well in my setting.

I apologize for not including the TV SW information. I'd just checked it:
SW: 9.3.0
Build: 4182
I hope the info answers your question.
Thanks

Same build. This update to 9.3.0 rolled out to me a couple of weeks ago.

See, I would have thought that maybe was the case a while back - but now that it is not happening on Jack Ryan season 1 and 2 in HDR Bright mode completely negates that.

Also, something is up, because Amazon Prime app is different now. What use to be "watchlist" is now "my stuff" and the layout is different within that section. They updated behind the scenes, for sure.

Interesting. That's the same build I'm on on my 8 Series. Maybe this was a back-end fix by Amazon after all.

This isn't an Amazon-app only problem for me (55r625); I see it happen on HDMI sources too. Of course maybe we're not seeing the same thing, but I've noticed the flicker will happen when the scene of the video has a rapid transition from light/white to dark. I will check out Jack Ryan, though, to see if it's actually working; and I'll test out the Amazon app on an external device (Nvidia Shield).

Well, something is definitely up because as of right now, Amazon Prime app will not even open on any of my Roku's. Fingers crossed they are updating it.

I hope it's that and not Amazon beginning a Walled Garden strategy with the app in order to gain FireTV market share. That being said, it's one app I could honestly do without and I hate FireTV with a passion.

Anyone know if TCL will do an RMA for dirty screen, or jail bars whatever it's called.

I have big yellow bars on a white screen. Not sure if it's got worse but it's starting to bug me. Had the tv since launch.

Doubtful unless you bought a protection plan. Are they vertical the yellow bars? Are you mostly seeing this on a complete white background? Can you see it in real world content?

Yes they are vertical. They are the most obvious on a white or light background. But once you know they're there you can see them on a decent amount of content.

I thought about returning it initially but already had it was mounted and didn't want to mess with it.

Considering this tv in 65 inches. Currently have a 49 inch X900E.
Currently stream Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and Disney+ through Apple TV 4K. Internet speed is 1000MB if that matters. Probably get 500mb to the tv with how long the cat5 cable is from the router.

Any concerns with this setup? Will I be able to skip the Apple TV and enjoy the set?

Can someone please post in one comment all the settings to improve motion? I’ve gone through the first 40 pages of the forum. There’s noise reduction to turn off in some app on your phone and something about natural cinema. What needs to be on, off and set to a specific value? I do watch NCAA basketball, hockey and football.
