49" Battle: Samsung Q70R vs. Sony X900F
Hi folks, please help me make a decision. I'm looking at getting a borderline-too-large TV to use as a computer monitor at my gaming PC in my home office. The signal will be mirrored between office and living room displays, which means losing any kind of variable refresh tech.
Seating distance: 3.5-4.5 feet from screen (likely wall mounted)
Use case: Probably 70% 4K HDR 60Hz gaming, and 30% regular PC use (web browsing, programming, YouTube, etc.) Unlikely to do much (if any) movie or TV watching on this display.
Ambient lighting: bright to dim. There will always be *some* ambient light near the screen, between my computer's LEDs and a desk lamp. Will never be used in lighting approaching "pitch black."
Irrelevant features: Smart TV platform, built-in apps, variable refresh rate technology, built-in speakers.
Setup: gaming PC outputting 4K HDR 60Hz signal -> HDMI -> HDMI splitter to mirror signal ->
-> HDMI to living room AVR -> video passthrough to LG C8
-> HDMI to office Q70R/x900F -> optical audio passthrough to sound system
Very interested in hearing feedback from any users who are using either of these sets for a similar use case.
Looking for impressions on:
- Color shift, uniformity issues, blooming, etc., as a function of sitting so close
- HDR gaming experience - I'm hoping to be wowed
- Reflection handling
- Any unexpected pros or cons encountered in day-to-day use
(It's not completely out of the budget or realm of possibility to step up to a 55" and consider an LG OLED, or Sony x950G, or Samsung Q80R. But those screens are likely *too* big at this close distance.)
Thanks in advance!
