Shopping for the first time in 5 years...

I haven’t kept up with the forums in awhile so forgive me if this question has been asked a hundred times... I’m looking for a 65” for my living room which is a bright room. I think I have it narrowed down to the QLED Q70 or Vizio P series Quantum X.. Is the Samsung $300 better? Is there other options I should be looking at in this price range? Thanks.

Samsung UN75H7150 - 75"
Denon AVR-X4100W
DefTech 8080 Center Chanel; 8060 Towers; 8080 Surrounds

Depends on what ur using the TV mostly for. If ur using it mostly for cable or satellite the Samsung is much better in upscaling the 480/720 signals than the vizio, so what is the breakdown on ur usage?

Samsung 60F8500 Plasma
Samsung 51F300B Plasma
Panasonic 42PX80 Plasma

I was about to edit my post with this info.... It’s mostly going to be cable. Already have the 4K box for xfinity and they do have some football they broadcast in 4K.. Also will have an Apple TV 4K that will get a lot of use with Netflix..

The setup in my sig is my movie room.. We dont spend much time up there anymore since the baby so looking to upgrade the living room setup.. This would replace a 48 inch Panny plasma.

Like mentioned previously the Q7 will upscale the cable signal better than the Vizio. However, the Vizio will shine with all other devices (including cable signals at 4K and or 1080p). Unlike the Samsung, the Vizio will also allow you to play Dolby Vision content.

My money, I’d get the PX for the higher brightness and contrast. Imo it is the better set and I believe that the advantage of the Q7 in upscaling 720p is not enough of a difference to warrant getting it over the PX

At the 1K range, I’d get the PX. Seems like the next set of good options will place you at the 2K+ range.

P.S. do consider sound as well, at the very least a decent sound bar.

I had my pricing wrong. I was looking at the P the PX is $1500 the Samsung is $1200. There’s also the Sony x950 in the price range so that’s an option.

I have an old Yamaha sound bar that I currently use as my receiver. I know it won’t work as a receiver with a 4K TV so my plan was for to hook up my cable box and Apple TV to the TV directly and just use the sound bar for sound. I assume that would work right?

The PX 65" has been sold at Sam's, Costco, and BB for $999 or less already this year and Costco (at least) has it $999 the week before Thanksgiving. The PX 75" is $1599 at Costco, currently.

Yes, if your sound bar has an optical input, you can run it from the TV to the sound bar.

If you are a member of Costco (great customer service and they automatically add a second year of warranty to any TV you purchase through them) you can get the PX 65” for $999. They also offer the Squaretrade warranty, which at $64.99 (TVs $500-$1,000), is worth it imo. That will extend the warranty to years 3, 4, and 5.

Q70R 65". Better motion, and build.

Both PQ are not great out of the box, so best to be pro calibrated.

Good luck, have fun with whatever you choose.

I think if you put 100 people in front of the PQX side by side with the Q70 and played the same 4K/HDR content on both...

100 people would choose the PQX. They're not even close, in my opinion.

If you purchase with the Costco Citi card the warranty is extended 2-years after the manufacturer warranty for no extra charge. I didn't know that until the cashier told me when I paid for my TV.

That's commendable optimism, but essentially it's up to the "101st" shopper/viewer to decide.

Various categories are compiled for PQ rating. rtings rates both TVs 8.2 for PQ. In light of that, plus motion and build, the Q70R appears to be the better choice.

rtings has a direct comparison between the two and based off of all of the metrics they conclude the Vizio PQX is better.

The PQX looks a lot better to non-AV nerds and quite a bit better to most AV nerds. I haven't experienced ANY unsatisfactory motion performance from the Vizio so I kind of scratch my head when people site that as a weakness. I only watch 1080p and up stuff and I can tell you that 1080p is upscaled to 4K wonderfully from my sources.
