HELP Please - Samsung RU8000 vs Q60R vs Q70R vs Sony X900F

Well my 12 year old Panasonic Plasma has finally given out - so looking for a new TV and have 4 on the list (all in 55 inch):

- Samsung RU8000 - $799.99 CDN

- Samsung Q60R - $1,099.99 CDN
- Samsung Q70R - $1,299.99 CDN

- Sony X900F - $1,299.99 CDN

I am in Canada and the above pricing is Best Buy's Black Friday pricing - wondering the following:

(1) If I am between the RU8000 and Q60R - is the $300 price jump worth it to go to the QLED?

(2) If I am between the Q60R and Q70R and X900F - is the $200 price jump worth it to go above the Q60R?

(3) If I am between the Q70R and X900F - which is the better choice?

I principally watch Movies and Sports - with some gaming mixed in.

TV will be in our main living room with a bay window - although light can be restricted if need be.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Well, the q70r and x900f are FALD sets so they are better choice, the Sony and Samsung have there strengths and weaknesses, the Sony considered to have the best motion, best upscaling, and better shadow detail, more accurate color, better reflection handling. (the Samsung motion and upscaling is good also. The Samsung has lower input lag for games, less blooming, higher contrast but no Dolby vision. I'm currently trying to decide between these two myself

Samsung 60F8500 Plasma
Samsung 51F300B Plasma
Panasonic 42PX80 Plasma

Thanks for the reply!

I have decided if I go budget route I will choose the Samsung RU8200 over the Q60R - as it does not appear to be worth the extra $200 to jump to the Q60R (especially without the FALD)

So the really question is whether I go X900F or Q70R - both the same price, the Sony has a free google home mini while the Samsung comes with free wall mount and installation (although I don't want to wall mount - this TV).

RTings seems to indicate the Q70R is slightly better - and I do like the fact that it is 2019 tech as opposed the X900F which is essentially last year's model. On the other hand, with the SOny it doesn't seem to have the variability out of the box (i.e., whether I am going to need to return the Samsung because of dead pixels or purple hue etc.). I watch Sports and Movies with occasional gaming, so motion handling is important as are true colours - but the Q70R looks quite nice in store (understanding they are on demo mode in vivid - but the colour saturation looks great).

Blargh someone decide for me

I had the Samsung NU8000 in my home for a couple of weeks and felt the colors looked washed out on HD Comast material. I switched to the 900f and am very happy. The motion processing is better and the colors look much better especially on HD material. I tried numerous settings from this forum and Rtings to improve the color but could never get it to look good to my eyes. Right out of the box the 900F was much better.

Thanks for the reply - any reason you did not consider the Q70R when looking for an upgrade over the NU8000? I agree the X900F is a much better TV than the 8-Series Sammy, but just cannot decide on whether the X900F is the choice over the Q70R.

I studied the 70R and 900F back to back as closely at I could. After adjusting the settings, I still didn't like the colors on the 70R. The motion handling was similar but the up-scaling on the HD content Magnolia had was noticeably better on the 900F. We watch mostly HD content (Sports and HGTV) and I felt the 900F was the better choice.

Thanks for the comments everyone - it seems like I really cannot go wrong between the Q70R and the X900F.

One last question - BestBuy seems to have the following two models in the Sammy:

- Samsung Q7DRAFXZC

- Samsung Q70RAFXZC

I believe the ONLY difference is that the Q7D is a BB exclusive that has improved speakers - but I just want to be sure.
