Samsung Series 6 vs. 7: Good & Bad ?

Samsung QLED TVs sell in at least two series, 6 & 7. Seven has different dimming an slightly higher powered speakers, and one more USB port.

Samsung sales via phone did not even know the advantages and disadvantages between these two series!

Is the 7 series of QLED worth the extra dough compared to the 6 series?

It is, the edge lit Q6 seems like it is overpriced and I would rather go down to the RU8000 and put the savings toward a sound bar. However, I feel the jump to the Q7 is worth the price difference.

The Q60 is not worth it.

There are 4 "QLED" series: 6 (Q60R), 7 (Q70R), 8 (Q80R) and 9 (Q90R). The Q60R is edge lit with no local dimming. The Q70R is a much better TV.

vThanks. Is the 80R and 90R worth the increased price?

It's CyberMonday now. Any great deals?

Seems on the Q70 R not everywhere offers the 5 year Samsung warranty.

if money is not an issue, which set would you want?

Of course the Q90R, which is the brightest with the most FALD zones (480). You must have a size you're looking for and some price target.

8.4 vs. 8.5 = not an impressive difference, and the Q90R was rated poorer in sound.

Want 55" or 60". Don't care about price, just value, viz. bang for the buck. If the V90R is really worth $1,100 more then I'd get it.

Thanks!

Bang for buck and quality Q80. The q60 is garbage and as far back as the NU model year tv the q6fn or q60 or whatever they want to name it for the year isn't even remotely an upgrade. The 70 has local dimming. The 80 has a fantastic look but doesn't charge you the vastly higher cost for being their flagship. Also the 900 is useless in the size you want. Theres no argument for 8k until we move over 75" and then I'd argue against 8k due to the tvs only upscaling to 8k and not actually handling any worthwhile 8k content yet.

Now you've completely changed the question. Before you asked:

"if money is not an issue, which set would you want?"

So the answer among your candidates is the Q90R.

Now your asking:

"bang for the buck"

First, the Q90R is better than Rtings single 0.1 difference due to the way they accumulate the points. For example, with high-end TVs, very few owners use the onboard sound, so that score has very little meaning and none regarding PQ. The Q90R has four times the FALD zones and is significantly brighter. It is the better TV.

Now comes bang for buck. Of the two, only the Q80R is available at 55", Q90R starts at 65" and is currently $500 more than the 65" Q80R. None of the Samsung "QLEDs" come at 60". You asked is the Q90R $1,100 better than the Q80R when it only cost $500 more. IMO the Q90R at 65" is worth close to $500 delta between it and the 65" Q80R.

Since you were initially considering the 55" or 60" Q60R and Q70R, the Q80R should be fine. The Q80R has the glossy screen with great anti-reflective properties of the Q90R which neither the Q60R or Q70R has, and has double the FALD zones of the Q70R while the Q60R has none. If you're going 55", IMO the Q80R is worth the $300 delta over the 55" Q70R.

FYI, you linked the Q900, not the Q90. The Q90 has a final score of 8.8, not 8.5

Oops.

Q90: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/q90-q90r-qled

At Costco, the Vizio OLED at $1,200 had a nice picture.

Vizio won't have an Oled until 2020. What you probably seen was the Vizio PQX LCD.
