Vizio TVs at CES 2020

At CES 2020 Vizio presented a broad array of TVs covering the bases from entry-level models with appealing features all the way up to its high-performance offerings that now encompass both FALD-LCD and OLED options. While the company did not exhibit on the show floor at the LVCC, it provided appointment-only feature tours of its forthcoming products. I shot videos of three separate presentations during my visit.

Among the features highlighted by the company are the introduction of an 85 inch screen size, the adoption of OLED technology at 55" and 65" sizes, and improvements to its SmartCast smart TV platform.

One thing that stood out about Vizio's presentation regarding its SmartCast platform is that the performance and usability upgrades described by the company apply to its TVs going back to 2017 models, and that includes more responsive browsing. Furthermore, the company introduced a new remote control that owners of older SmartCast Vizio TVs can purchase and use. Now that Vizio has shown its commitment to its existing customers by keeping its smart TV platform up-to-date and supporting older TVs, it seems time to grant it a Best of CES award.

One of the more unusual demonstrations in the Vizio exhibit was a simulation direct sunlight shining on a TV outdoors. The idea is to highlight how the overall brightness the company's TVs achieve allows for good picture quality, even outdoors on a sunny day.

I was at CES 2020, and I never saw Vizio, nor were they on the "exhibitor" list. Where were they?

Vizio was not on the exhibitor list, which is their practice (no booth) but did officially take part in CES. The demos and product tours took place at a private suite in Vdara, by invitation only.

Bezel-less is cool! From a width standpoint it might let me fit a 75" into my HT space.

By the way, the link from the home page doesn't work for me...maybe it's been fixed in the last few minuets.

Cheers,

OPPO UDP-205, LG OLED65C8, OPPO BDP-93, Pioneer Kuro Pro-150FD, Dynaudio 2x BM-12a Mk III Mains, 2x BM 6a Mk II surround, 2x BM 14s Subs, Allan and Heath MixWizard, room is 11'7"x 16'6"x 8" dedicated and treated. Tripp-Lite UPSs/power conditioners (because my power isn't as clean as it used to be)

It's crazy how the Playstation company isn't focusing on any gaming stuff for their TVs. That's one hell of an oversight...

HDMI 2.1? I have a LG 65 C6,I will not let my kids hook up any PS4,ect to it. NO I don't have any burn and want to keep it that way, last of the real 3D.
85 LCD is my next step, sounds like Vizio is going to give Samsung and Sony a run for the money.

According to the verge

https://www.theverge.com/2020/1/5/21...tum-x-ces-2020

The whole line has HDMI 2.1...well at least the LCDs but I would think the OLEDs would too.

Are their LCD TV's still semi-matte? Big turn off for me. No interest in Vizio until they offer a full-on glossy finish.

Will the gaming TV's still recognize a gaming console when the console is cabled HDMI to pre/pro or avr and then HDMI to TV? Or will the gaming console have to be direct HDMI for the gaming 'engine' to kick in?

2020 Vizio TVs Official Thread

I don't know if there's a thread on the 2020 Vizio TV lineup yet or not, but here it is. This thread will cover everything, from the low-end Vizio V-series, then the mid-range Vizio M-series (split into two different versions, the cheaper M7 and the mildly more expensive M8), then the high-end P-series (split into two versions, the regular P-series and the P-series X), and new this year for Vizio is a OLED TV so LG and Sony both better watch out. Here's everything you need to know about the lineup.

Not 100% sure if they'll do that this year, but we'll wait & find out from Vizio themselves at some point in time.

They just settled the ASTC 3.0 standards, and it’s not backwards compatible. If that means putting 2 tuners in the sets, they’d only do it because there’s plenty of space in large screen sets. However, the rollout of 3.0 will likely be slow. Broadcasters aren’t jumping in to invest in the new upgrades necessary and instead are choosing to eventually get to it.

My guess is that 3.0 is also competing with people already getting signal from streaming. Cable’s not really a competitor at this point - they would literally freeze up if everyone starting watching all TVs in 4K.

If the 85” Vizio is a quality set at price equal to or less than existing 85” sets, it’s on my list regardless of tuner. I don’t live in an area where there’s enough reliable free OTA signal anyway so I hardly use a tuner.
