Do we need to make a thread for every video speculation piece from FOMO?

These Cable Companies are going to milk this old technology as long as they can so getting a 8K TV with a much better upscaler gives you a better picture with 720p content than any 4K TV..

true .. but the value is subjective...i'm probably never going to buy a tv for the upscale ability, but who knows maybe i'll change my mind someday...i can see where daddy warbucks might dig the upgrade...

I'm only 4K60hz as a stop-over until 8K comes with HDMI 2.1 & there is a GPU with such support as well.

PC use with 8K will be gold. I do hope there aren't any caveats with the models coming out as it's 90% on the current models but not 100% even for 4K60Hz for PC.

55" is kinda small even for 4K at the distance I use it. I feel like 65 should be minimum but 75" should be gold if going 8K. The requirement you sit a little further from the screen for each increase in size.

55" @ 90cm-100cm is quite alright. But I could see ~130cm & 65" would be much nicer.

I hope they improve the filters as the 2019 ultra wide filter causes a little too much Blur to be enjoyable for PC from the examples I've seen for close-up shots.

The blur effect is similar to old anti-glair "3H" LG on IPS monitors I could say on the close-ups. Many don't like such effects on the PC side and prefer glossy or semi-glossy screens with no blurred pixels.

I can see why the LG 4K vs Samsung 8K resolution comparison gave the win to the LG. It's because of the filter that blurs the sub-pixels to half-resolution close-in.

ATSC 3.0 is coming to the US this year so 4k is already a done deal. 100% of flat panel TVs are now made in the PRC geared for the Chinese market and 8K OTA broadcasts has been happening since last year leading up to the 2022 Winter Olympics ...so 8K it might be irrelevant in the US and Europe, but 4K content upconverted to 8K isn't all that bad and is a bonus !

The sneaky part is that Samsung has rebadged their 2019 Q70 and Q80 model as Q90 in 2020 making potential buyers think they are buying a flagship model at reduced price in 2020 ! ...LoL

ATSC 3.0 does not automatically mean they Wil be using 4k lol 4k is only an option. They can still do 1080p with ATSC 3.0

Well the caveat is that the newer ATSC 3.0 signals are not backwards compatible with ATSC 1.0 TVs. The networks will still provide ATSC 1.0 signals for the next 5 years.

..and ota doesn't deal with data caps... but that unfortunately doesn't help us here with small data caps and ota capped at 1080...i get that "it is what it is" and that Asian markets benefit , but did you ever ponder why American and European markets suffer? might it be profit gouging by the industry(cable, internet) ? rather than the idea that tech advancement is it's own long term reward?.. i would bet we are paying much higher data rates and cable costs than those in Asian countries.. now.. tell me why i consider 4k/8k useless( to the avg. guy in the 1st world) .. maybe because it's true?

Samsung has always been the king of sneaky marketing/trying to con people.

The main problem is that the same networks own or have shares in the cable subscription and internet provider sector as well ...just think here in Canada BCE which is the parent company of Bell Canada(Internet, Satellite TV, POTS), CTV(OTA, Content Producer) and consumer retail electronics chain The Source(similar to Radio Shack). Why would they want to provide good free programming when they can charge for it ? In the US there are federal laws which protect OTA broadcasts for emergencies, but in Canada there are no such laws and many networks now what to do away with their OTA service altogether. 4K ATSC 3.0 is happening with US networks simply for the fact that they want more ad revenues, but I don't see this happening in Canada with 92% of the public already subscribing to cable or satellite TV.

Yes we are definitely paying a lot more for our slower internet bandwidth then most if not all of the Asian countries. The average internet speed in Asia is 100mbps down uncapped for around $18/month USD.

it's obvious "you get it"... now what do we do about it? i guess it's a bigger problem in the great white north .. and probably Europe...at least here (usa) we aren't made criminals by watching unlicensed material , although the cable / internet shills at every best buy would have you think it's illegal.. they even frown upon talking of such things here... just shows that avs loyalty is to the corporate sponsorship rather than the user .. and of course i'll catcha trunkload of trouble just implying that right here..

They are called "Reactionaries" for a reason ...nothing will change unless their bottom line is dwindling !
Stop subscribing to cable for one and use other sources like OTA, Kodi, Netflix or Amazon, at least you're paying for original new content and not just spinning the same rehash over and over again like on cable. The cable companies can't believe the masses keep paying for rehash programming ...why change ?
