It’s listed as HDR. Plays SDR.
Restart as many times as you like. It’s not HDR.
Some titles say UHD, but that doesnt mean they are in HDR, if its in HDR it will have two icons reading UHD HDR.

Do you have Amazon prime? Check the specific title I listed. It clearly labeled as HDR, but it’s not.
I fully understand the difference between UHD and HDR.

Do you have Avengers Endgame or Infinity War and if so, do they play back in HDR10+ on either your Q80T or Q70R?

Cool, I only own the original Avengers in HD so couldn’t check that title. So many titles have been upgraded to HDR10+ on Amazon it’s hard to find ones that aren’t.

Yeah I noticed it a little over a week ago when I was testing if HDR was broken with the Amazon app since a couple people reported issues with various devices. I knew Amazon used HDR10+ with some of their original content but didn’t think my purchases would have it. It was a nice surprise since many other providers do not support HDR10+. Hopefully more apps adopt it (a lot of Disney content is playing in HDR10+ on Amazon so maybe Disney+ will support it soon).

As for "The Avengers" on Amazon Prime, I'm not able to play the HDR version in HDR10 either through my television's app (LG B8) or my X Box One S. I've tried a couple of other titles that I know are in HDR ("Knives Out" and "Jack Ryan" season 2) and they still play in HDR10. This is the first time I've come across a HDR indicated title that doesn't play in either HDR10 or Dolby Vision.

I've restarted the title multiple times but to no avail. Of course my devices don't support HDR10+ but I would think they would still play in HDR10. And it wouldn't explain why this title is not playing in HDR10+ on your Samsung televisions. Perhaps you need to own the title for it to play in HDR10/HDR10+.

Exactly what I’m seeing.
There are several titles that do play in HDR without owning or renting. Back to my original question, could it be a format not supported on my set? It doesn’t seem to be a simple case of mislabeling since there are reports clearly showing the same title playing in HDR.

Interesting, I didn’t realize that it was available for free with Prime. I didn’t bother to search for it before because I only own the HD copy and didn’t think that wasn’t a valid test.

I’m not surprised if Avengers only plays in 4K for people who purchased the 4K digital copy. Disney content on Netflix is only available in HD. Disney 4K digital copies do not play in 4K on iTunes because of licensing agreements. They are strict with their 4K licensing agreements. This just adds to the confusion because Amazon has 2 copies of each title. I think this has nothing to do with your set and is more likely an issue of Amazon’s. Who knows but they may not even have a license to distribute 4K material of Disney’s on their service for free. Luckily Disney+ isn’t expensive and has a huge collection of content in 4K HDR/DV/Atmos.

Not likely, even Dolby Vision titles would play in HDR10 on sets that don't support it. My best guess is it's because it's mislabeled or server issues.

I've noticed Cam said he owns the 4K disk so maybe he entered the digital code through Movies Anywhere and that's why he's able to watch it in HDR.

For example I purchased "Little Women" UHD HDR via VUDU and because I have a Movies Anywhere account it's also available on Amazon. Usually when I do this only the SDR variant carries over to Amazon but since this title is available in HDR from them (but not through Prime) it also plays in HDR. Just a theory.

I’ve had my 65” Q80T for just over a week, but the DSE is quite obvious at times.

Is the DSE shown in the below pic normal?

No such thing as a perfect TV, with that said only you can decide what is exceptable... Taking a picture like that is hard to do, so its hard to say from your photo.

This is exactly what I’m finding as well. For some reason game motion being on totally fixes the issue but you gain 10ms give or take of input lag. Weirdly, there are some ghosting issues with motion off as well, oddly bright highlights, blown out contrast, etc. I wonder if game mode is really suppose to function with motion processing, they seem to be linked in that way. My big question is: if you run a Xbox or PC through VRR / Freesync outputting 120hz do you also have these weird dimming or contrast issues, or do these not happen because you aren’t touching game mode at all?

I am getting this on my Q90T as well so it has to be a software bug. Any fixes? Factory reset? Wait for another firmware?

Did you update your Tv to the new firmware ver 1301.5? Some guys on the Q90t Forum said that this new firmware seems to fix ghosting issues and add a new mode, filmmaker.

And about the Q80T, did u guys try the new firmware? Hope it fixes the ghosting issue

I did update but I never really saw inverse ghosting. With game motion off I’m getting flash lighting / color clouding. It’s a different issue.

The game mode dimming issue is now being reported across the board for the following TVs: Q80T, Q90T, Q95T, and Q800T. This is clearly a software bug as it’s happening on 3 different panels. If you have the issue with game motion turned off, please head over to the official Samsung forum thread and drop a comment.

Just want to add, that I did update to to 1301. In regards to filmmaker mode, it looks good with HDR, but with SDR its broken...severly dims the picture. Ive tested both internal apps and external devices. Hopefully samsung sends a patch to fix it for SDR.

Thank you for the replies.. so as I'm wondering to get the Q80t, I would like to know if the latest firmware 1301.5 fixed the grayish/blueish look on darker scenes in game mode on Q80T (looks grayish/blueish on Q80t.. img attached)

Thanks

it might be by design: ambient light detection mode that overwrites global setting and stays permanently on. not sure why they decided to implement that for the FILMMAKER MODE though.

^actually it does remind me of ambient light enabled. Weird choice on there part. Its too dim to appreciate whatever improvements comes with it. However filmmaker mode in HDR looks very good.

My Amazon app stopped working. It you select it, you hear the feedback sound, but the app flashes , but never starts. I have done the cold boot, and tried deleting the app from the smart hub dock, and adding it back, but no change.

I’m trying to avoid a full factory reset if possible. Has anyone else run into this and solved it?

This fixed it for me. Go to APPS. Scroll down to DOWNLOADED APPS and long press on the Prime Video App and then you should get the option to Reinstall. After I did that it worked for me.
