1. I saw that solution, but couldn't find the switch they were talking about. It hasn't happened today so...not going to complain. Hopefully it doesn't reoccur.

2. The input situation was resolved with resetting the TV. Before that, they didn't show at all, even in the source menu. It was very strange. The only input showing was for my Xbox. The other devices weren't there at all. It works fine now.

3. See pic. It's basically a slight dirty screen effect. It isn't a big deal at all and no worse than my OLED.

I'm loving the TV.

you can always try to count the zones using this video:

just make sure you're in the dark environment and find the best angle to count them from.

without somebody counting them or looking in the service menu it's all a conjecture, every year Samsung has different approach to their larger sets.

new (first for US) firmware update is out (ver. 1113) through TV settings update menu. looks like a quite hefty download too.

edit: now available on the support site: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/o...d-tv-q80t-2020

I'll try out that video and do some counting tonight. That's going to exceed all my fingers and toes though, so I may need a few tries.

Dimming Technology: Supreme UHD Dimming (Direct Full Array 12X - 50 Zones in 55" model (5x10 according to the Service Menu)

Freesync
Bixby, Alexa
2xUSB, 4xHDMI 2.0 (1xHDMI 2.1), eARC

No One Connect Box

Have been an owner of 55" version for about a week now. No software updates out of the box (04/21/20 edit: ver. 1113 is out in US) so some small bugs are expected. There's a slight green/blue push out of the box. No vertical banding, very slight DSE that you need a trained eye and specific content to notice. Virtually no blooming (even in HDR, black bars stay black) but the amount of zones makes itself apparent with some torture tests. Picture settings have slight inconsistencies between Picture modes (like Standard and Movie), especially in HDR but I'd wait for future updates to comment more on that.

Some quick settings for regular SDR viewing:

Brightness (this year's Backlight): 28
Contrast: 45 (starts clipping on anything above)
Sharpness: 6
Color: 27
Picture Clarity: Blur: 10 Judder: 0 Noise Reduction: Auto (no Low setting this year which is a bummer)
Local Dimming: Standard (in Movie mode, setting Local Dimming to High allows to disable dynamic tone mapping for more precise PQ EOTF tracking)
Contrast Enhancer: Off
White Balance 2 point: Gain: 6, -9, -6 Offset: 2, 0, 2
Gamma BT.1886: 0
Shadow Detail (this year's Brightness): 1

Color Space Custom:
RED: 60 30 12
GREEN: 5 55 20
BLUE: 10 3 38
YELLOW: 55 40 45
CYAN: 25 50 43
MAGENTA: 46 40 55

Great... what about settings for HDR?

My Q80T crushes the blacks, local dimming is destroying the picture in virtually all scenes, even the credits are too dark! I am scheduled for BestBuy to pickup my Q80T for return on thursday. I cannot get a decent picture and am tired of trying for nearly a month. I call BS on the posts that claim the Q80T US is the same as the Q80R.... it is definitely a huge step down in quality over the Q80R. Viewing angle is meaningless if the picture is crap!!! Blacks are all crushed, local dimming causes every scene to be far too dark, settings change randomly and most content looks third rate. All for a premium price. Samsung should be ashamed. My 13 year old DLP was far better than this and did not require changing settings with every TV show or movie!

first of all, calm down (also, there's no need to quote the whole post). none of the things that you're talking about are actually close to the truth.

now, if you're not trolling, we'll try to help you. what content are you trying to watch and from what source? what are your General/Eco Solution and Picture settings?

Gonna have to call BS on the crushed blacks claim. That is not my experience AT ALL. If you think this has crushed blacks. Don't go near an OLED.

Haven't had a chance to do the zone counting. I'll get to it tonight hopefully.

It's 48 zones that I count on the 85", I just did the test and counted them. Not sure how they get 50. If your viewing consists of watching floating single dots, you'll likely be disappointed. I'm actually even more impressed with how well they're able take make it look with so few zones.

If you need more, look elsewhere.

The letterboxing is very impressive. I don't see any bleed. Bear in mind that the camera makes it look substantially worse than it does in person

The 65” has 50 zones with a 5x10 matrix. Are you getting 48 zones by counting 4 columns and 12 rows? If so I’m wondering if your 85” TV actually has the same 5x10 matrix as the 65” model.

Thanks,it's enough,it looks like Samsung support rep/people doesn't/don't have the right information about the product,or getting confused with other models

Samsung has virtually eliminated the blooming with black bars, subtitles and other on screen elements no matter how bright the content is. the new algorithm is covered in HDTVTest review and this thread.

^we need more data to support that rather than 1 review and 1 member with the 85. I like what I see, but that doesnt mean that Samsung completely found a way to eliminate 99% of blooming.
