I have both the LNT4671 and the LNT4681 sitting in my living room so let's do a side by side comparison. Anyone interested?

I'm interested. Can you do a proper calibration and then use some full screen material with lots of dark scenes?

p.s. Seems like the 4671 is a little larger than the 4681 from the pictures!

its a very extreme angle view, samething happens if you were to view the 71 or 66/65/61. I am standing at the right side of the tv looking down at it from the top right corner to the bottom left corner. Camera pics up more that the eye but if you go outside the normal viewing angle that is what happens...

Thanks. I thought the LED backlighting would solve the viewing angle issue.

That is funny that you say that. i am sitting on the couch pulling my hair out going "why the hell does the 71 seem so much bigger?" I go to my car and grab a tape measurer and get the exact same dimensions corner to corner and screen to screen. The 81 is angled down and the 71 is flat on the floor so it is the optical illusion of the bottom of the 81 being farther back than the front above the 71 causing that. Looks the same on my couch...

Does the 81 add anymore depth to the picture? The reason I ask is because the Chis Tucker shots look identical.

Thanks for the explanation. For a second, I thought maybe you've got 4081 instead of 4681.

Pretty, pretty... both of them.

The colors on the 81 seem more accurate/natural in the golf shots. LED SmartLighting and LED Motion Plus turned on? Have you run the demos yet? What are your initial impressions? You're doing a good deed here, sir.

Could be caused by the tilting of the 81.

Not yet, still calibrating but I am sure it will once I am done. Both sets are on factory reset on movie mode. Yes the 81 does 1080p24.

Just tried the ninja gaiden on ps3 demo on the hilltop with the trees again. Blurry with everthing off. Once you turn on everything, no blurr...

The freakn best thing about this set (81) is that in my darkish room at the moment, no more gray screen, no more mura, or pillars, or flashlights. When the screen is not displaying a picture, it is black, not gray. Finally...

It should regardless of calibration. Just make sure the LED dimming feature is on

Thanks for the upcoming football shots. Scratch the SDDVD of LOTR. I wanted to know if the 81 added more depth to full screen dark-er movies.

I have 2 movies on blu ray, casino royal and 5th element so I will do my best posting some dark shots of those... picked up a 7.1megapix olympus camera. It isn't the best so if anyone can recommend a nice digital in the 200 dollar range that I can pick up at cc or bb let me know....

105% NTSC color gamut on the 81 is a far more likely explanation.

  • So are you saying that glow around the pause button is in the picture and not in person? I'm just wondering if you have something like a starfield on the screen if there's a glow around all the stars then the deep blacks aren't going to be quite as deep if they "bloom" like D-Nice said.
  • I'm guessing from your pic the glow is totally gone on pure black screen in the dark?

Motion handling on the 81s should be far superior to the corresponding implementation on the 71s. You should be getting near-CRT motion performance on the 81.

To get 105%, you have to turn the color gamut setting to Wide. It is set to Auto (meaning off) by default.
