Not on this year. They confirmed there will only be two new models.

IF Samsung decides to continue producing plasmas for another year, (which I hope they do) they could release such product as an I5300/I5500. An F8500 class plasma that gets rid of Smart TV and 3D at the H5000's price point would be welcome.

Again where do you get your information from? Read this...

http://m.cnet.com/news/samsung-well-have-new-plasmas-just-not-at-ces-2014/57616627

"he mentioned plans to offer a less expensive version of the PNF8500 series, one of the best TVs of 2013. The new version, perhaps with a 7 series designation, would have similar picture quality to the 8500, but skip some of the extra features like the camera and elaborate metal stand, thus reducing cost."

Ack, this is good news but also bad news. I need a TV yesterday, and I don't think I will be at peace dropping 2,500 on a 8500 frown.gif

I wish I would have grabbed a VT60 when I had the chance.

I am in the same boat as you, not yesterday, but in 2 weeks. BUT, if I found a F8500 for 2500, I would jump all over that.

Sent some emails, and it looks like the H7000 (striped down f8500) will not be released until August :/

The price difference between the two won't be big enough to justify going with an F5300 refresh over an F8500 one. The H5000 certainly has a very attractive price, but even with the longer wait, the H7000 will be more worthwhile.

According to the article, $300~$700 off the price of the current F8500. So, I had assumed $300 for the 51 inch one, $700 for the 64 inch one, somewhere about $500 for the 60 inches. That used to be my assumption, but now that the prices for the H series LCDs have come out, I'm totally lost yet again. This time, there doesn't seem to be much difference from MSRP and UPP. Assuming Samsung will be pricing the H7000 about the similiar price as the H7150 LCDs, I just can't see how such reductions result in such prices.

So that would be $1399 for the 5000 and $2297 for the 7000,not sure I'd wait for that.

I thought the F8500 was $2999 from Samsung. So if the H7000 is $300-$700 off, you can get that deal from Cleveland Plasma for the f8500 now.

ISF Calibrator
Samsung PN64F8500
Pioneer Kuro Elite Pro-111FD
Pioneer Kuro BDP-320
Displays are like 100% cotton t-shirts. Always buy a size larger than you think you'll need, as they tend to shrink over time.

I wasnt real sure on that, I was thinking the 8500 was still normally $2999. It would make much more sense if what you're saying is true.

Sheesh, the price did go up considerably last few months. I don't understand Samsung's pricing scheme. tongue.gif I remember the 64 one being sold for $2399 on Mother's day.

Sorry for bringing your hopes up.

Samsung's official product page for the h5000 makes no mention of any filter: http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs/PN64H5000AFXZA-specs

Think it's safe to say this will be a slight evolution of the f5300; value electronics' page looks to be in error

I saw that too and it got me worried. Oh well, only a few more days left before we find the truth.

On B&H they have a picture (10th picture on mobile site) of the H5000 advertising it with the real black pro panel. I still don't believe it has a filter for the price but I may have been wrong in my predictions. If it does it is probably an updated panel from the E 6,7 and 8 series.

Interested in black level and luminance output of the H5000 too! Can it improve upon the already good F5300? We'll see.

I highly doubt any of these 2014 models will perform better in that regard compared to the 2013s especially since Samsung appears to be trying to reduce costs on these. No longer having any competition from Panasonic doesn't help either.

Cost cutting can be realized via different avenues... by moving away from a metallic bezel, less smart features, no 3D, various production efficiencies, less need for advertisement (ie less competition with Panasonic out of the plasma business), as well as less R&D. Whichever avenues Samsung chooses will dictate how much cost savings, and how much improvement, if any, will be found in their 2014 panels.

I am not expecting non-F8500 Samsung plasma derivatives to be getting anywhere near the F8500, they already have reached it with the F5500. I'm just saying, while they've reached the limit MLL-wise, they could still do further tuning. (Reducing the floating black further, Stop the rising black, making it go brighter, etc)

Heard from the news Samsung SDI is really having trouble with their plasmas because of higher currency value and Panasonic's departure from the plasma market. When Panasonic was still in the game, the subcontractors could still enjoy an economy of scale despite the shrinking plasma market, and now with only two left, they're a lot less enthusiastic about continue working with the Koreans. It's just like what happened with the RPTVs. When Samsung pulled out of the RPTV market, Mitsubishi was not in a position to be really happy about eating into Samsung's potential customers.

Agreed. I will be shocked if Samsung is still making plasma in 2015.

As a new owner of a 8500 there are a few things about it that bug me.

The miserable anti-glare filter that kills the viewing angle, and IS visible
The buzz
The boat load of smart features I'll never use

So, if the model you guys are talking about is basically a stripped down version of the 8500 - it might be a winner.

The new filter for the H5000 will either be a blessing or a curse. Unfortunately, there's no escaping for us potential H7000 customers either. Samsung must've already made a boatload of them and now they're sticking them into the H5000 too. Haha, I really do hope they still have the remaining filters for the 2015. A good excuse for continuing to produce plasmas. A further dumbed down version of the H7000 in 2015 would be welcome! (...we will still be stuck with the same filters lol)

Are they planning a 51 inch version of the H5000? And are they continuing the 720p 4500 series?

No, the H5000 will only be released in 64 inches, but the F4500, F5300, and F5500 will still be sold along with the F8500 through out the first half of the year. These products are essencially carry-over products and will be sold until Samsung exhausts their stock. So, that makes the H5000 and the H7000 only new models Samsung will be releasing this year.

If you want a 51 inch model, you have to wait until August for the H7000...
