So I have searched, and there does not appear to be a thread about this TV yet, so I figured I would start one.

It appears to be a 2014 plasma from Samsung, in 64inch, no 3d and no smarts.

The interesting part is that some sources are indicating that it has the same panel as the 2013 F8500, at a price quite a bit lower then the 2013 F5500. However, that doesn't seem to be unanimous. (EDIT: Apparently it has the same "Pro black panel" as the F8500, meaning the anti reflective filter for improved contrast, and NOT the F8500s brighter image panel. So it theoretically should be much better in a bright room then the former f5300 f5500, but not as bright as the F8500.)

Website created by Value Electronics that makes the F8500 claim http://pn64h7000.com/

and finally, http://reviews.*******************.com/samsung-plasma-tv/samsung-pn64h5000.html which claims the pq is decent but no mention of the f8500 panel.

I'm inclined to believe Value Electronics but man that price is low for an f8500 panel. Claims to be shipping 2/24/14. What do you guys think? Has anyone found any more info?

I saw that, doesn't mention anything about using the pro black panel or anti reflective coating though. Only Value Electronics has claimed that so far. Think its true?

If it has the 8500 panel and coating and is prices like the 5500, will be instant buy for me. I doubt that is the case but crossing my fingers!

Just heard from the owner at Value Electronics, he says it has the same anti reflective pro black coating as the 8500, but NOT the same panel. So it will be dimmer then the 8500, but might have the same contrast? Still very interesting, as that is the only real bad part of the f5300/f5500 series.

My guess is that might be a mistype on the VE site about the pro black. I cannot imagine an "F8500 panel" going that cheap, but who knows.

Yeah, that makes a lot more sense. The filter could help in a lighted environment.

This

This year's H5000 series incorporates Samsung's well respected Real Black Pro filter taken from the F8500, the Real Black Pro filter improves black levels and creates bolder color and higher contrast.

is from their website. Seems to be a very long typo.

Commander-Keen 02-15-2014 08:11 PM

So,I guess it'd be worth waiting over a F5500?

Yes, it's also cheaper too. Seems like a good deal.

Just need an official release date then

I wonder if Samsung is scrapping 3D all together on H7000, too.

tylerSC 02-16-2014 09:47 AM

Good to hear Samsung will continue to produce plasmas for 2014. And glad to hear the 7000 series is returning. Hopefully a return to top tier quality at a more affordable price point. The F8500 was a bit beyond my budget and the E7000 previously at $999 was more reasonable. But I wonder why no G series instead of H? Seems like G would follow F. And I wonder if there will be a G4500 720 version on the low end, or a G8500 on the high end? Perhaps they are reducing models and narrowing the price point.

In Korean consumer electronics, what letter comes after "L"? :-)

...and also a pretty good chance next year's series will be J instead of I.. because of that certain competitor in the smartphone market.

The pdf samsung brochure attached to the abt page makes no mention of the filter. History also suggests that a filter only went as low in the line-up as the e6500 (the c590 may have a also had a diluted filter).

If the h5000 does, it will sell as well as the s64 panaonic series did.

I doubt it as 3D was likely already just built into that specific panel.

Dougofthenorth 02-17-2014 12:46 PM

I guess we will have to see if 2014 F8500 equivalent models come out/are announced!!

RWetmore 02-17-2014 03:15 PM

Does anyone know if the 60" will be a Pentile display like the F5300 and F5500?

Well, seeing as there is only going to be one size available for the H5000, (that is 64 inches) I'm assuming you're asking about the H7000. While it could be a possibility if Samsung is hell-bent on cost-cutting, I doubt it as the price saving won't be too great compared to the F8500 to warrant the F5300/F5500 type of pentile tech going into the H7000.

Stumbo 02-18-2014 12:56 PM

Is there a release date on this? I was considering the pn64f5300, but it sounds like the h5000 is more up my alley.

Edit: saw its shipping 2/24

Correct, the H5000 will have anti-reflective filter over the F5300. I think that's about the all the major difference between the two panels. While they're about the same price, the H5000 definitely holds better value.

spimm 02-18-2014 04:40 PM

There is no proof that it has the louvered filter. Where are you people getting this from. Oh yeah you must be the ones who still believe the warehouse 4550 and 5350 have it like the s64. I guarantee that there will be no filter and feature the clear image and real black panel with no filter just like previous models. Keep hoping and dreaming and pouring out false information for the masses.

Stumbo 02-18-2014 04:41 PM

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on this, I'll be returning my week old 70" sharp tonight :/

Will I be the first? Do I get an award?

If my opinion turns out to be wrong, I will be the first to apologize. The reason I'm believing in Robert is because he did give us accurate information in the past. I believe he was the first person saying the ABL popping plaguing the F8500 had been fixed through firmware and he had a Samsung representative coming into VE and confirmed with Kevin Miller. Given Robert's reputation, I'm inclined to believe in him.

Other than the 6 inches difference, the H5000 will surely spank your Sharp when it comes to PQ. No offense to Sharp, but their super-sized LCDs are usually at the bottom of the barrel, even for Sharp's standard. They certainly are not the Elite.

I'm sure it will, and I actually think the 70" is too big in my living room :/

On axis I actually enjoyed the picture on the sharp initially, but once I got it wall mounted and sat in my usual spot, a little bit off axis, the blacks went to hell an clouding became pronounced frown.gif

Uh oh, in your case, it might actually be a blessing in a disguise if the H5000 didn't come with the filter.

I personally found the F8500's vertical viewing angle awful for a plasma. Imagine if such filter goes into the H5000. Of course, it's still nowhere near bad as the LCDs, still, for a plasma, that's a bit regretable. My Panasonic S64 also has the anti-reflective filter and it also has slightly worse vertical viewing angle than the vanila S60. Nothing too terrible though.

spimm 02-18-2014 05:20 PM

If you compare the dimensions and weight of the 64f5300 they are identical. The only thing that looks promising is the so called Motion and Black Enhancer which is probably a new name for motion lighting and black optimizer or could be the same. The energy rating went down $8 a year. I checked samsung websites from Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Europe, and South Africa and not one of them had a H5000 listed yet to compare specs from their individual sites.

I have a new wall mount that will allow me to pitch towards the viewing position a bit.

This wasn't the deal breaker, the deal breaker is the blacks and motion artifacts that are to be expected with an LCD.
