That should be the case now. When I bought our Samsung PN51F5300AFXZA in February 2014 from Best Buy, the box said it was a PN51F5300BFXZA. The television was built in January 2014 and is an AFXZA model, so it may have been a confusion of packaging as the two iterations were overlapping. At that time, few were even aware that there was a new iteration of the F5300, and the most we could learn then was that there was a difference in a couple of remote control functions. It didn't matter to me: what was to have been a $499 open-box buy became a $499 new buy because BB couldn't find the open-box television that they had assured me they had.

I'm really surprised to learn that there are still AFXZA models in stores. Regardless, we really enjoy this TV--I'll let everyone else worry about spec minutia. I'm sure you're going to really enjoy it, Tyler, regardless what you do.

887276963693 is the UPC code for the 2014 PN60F5300BFXZA and 887276017976 for the 2013 PN60F5300AFXZA. The good news is that you got your information from a Best Buy agent, and they're usually wrong.

I wonder if they will lower prices again by Black Friday. Last summer, the 60 inch was $649 and $679 at various retailers. Now it is back to $799 at most stores.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did. If memory serves, the best prices were between Black Friday into a week or two of December. You just don't want them to become hard to find.

Too bad the Black Friday add is not out yet. I am thinking about getting the PN60F5300 for cheaper than 799. If I knew for sure that it has better blacks than my 2009 Panasonic plasma I would consider the 799 price. I hear it's hard to come close to Panasonic's black levels even entry level Panasonic's have better blacks than even Samsung.

The f300 plasmas have better black levels than any of the 2009 panasonics

Possibly but I always heard the Kuro reigned, second to that the Panasonic's. If I was comparing apples to apples then a 2009 Panasonic with a 2013 Panasonic plasma could have black level improvement but I never heard of Samsung having better blacks than Panasonic.

I think I read where Samsung will have a final production run of their plasmas in November. So perhaps they will do some holiday sales before they become scarce.

I went into a Best Buy today to see the PN60F5300 in person. It's a "B" model even though their site states "A." That aside, I was pretty frustrated with my experience. They had a PN51F5300 and a PN60F5300 on display. The PN51F5300 was on the fritz with most of the screen displaying flickering pixels. I hate when stores leave a broken model on the floor ...annoying. As far as the PN60F5300, it was out in the main area under the bright lights alongside all the other LED's/LCD's, which of course were all being displayed in their over-saturated, over-bright, vivid "glory." Sadly, it did make for an underwhelming preview of the PN60F5300 for me. On top of that, it seemed to me the blacks were actually more an odd shade of gray and did not appear to be anywhere near as dark as the neighboring LCD's/LED's. Although I was able to find the remote for it and switch it from Vivid to Standard mode, I did not have a list of settings to make further settings changes in order to attempt viewing it with better calibration. Of course, with the store lighting that wouldn't have been possible anyway. On the positive side, the picture appeared more life-like to me, providing more depth and somewhat of a 3D feel. Also, the pentile display didn't bother me once I was about 6' away and the reflection didn't seem too bad either, even under all those lights.

So having said all of that, does anyone else have an experience to share related to looking at one of these in the store vs. in their home? I feel I will still be happy with this model once I get in my house and calibrate it properly but can't help but hesitate after seeing it in the store.

I bought a 60F5350, which is the Costco version of this set. I bought it almost completely on the reputation of this series. When I went to Costco, this set was, by far, the worst looking picture in the store. Came home, turned it on, looked pretty bad. Both my wife and 10 yr old son were not impressed.

After dialing in the picture, FREAKIN AWESOME! We all continue to be impressed. Do not hesitate. The deals on these sets are un-matched for quality per dollar.

its not a possibility, the samsung f300 plasmas have lower black levels than any of the 2009 panasonics. the black level measurements are on this forum. i have a 2008 and a 2009 panasonic plasma, and i bought a 51f300b back in may. the samsung black levels and processing are superior. get one before there gone.

Thanks for this. More of this from others will reassure me to take the plunge. The price is certainly amazing.

The best plasma left before they are gone is the F85000 from Samsung and possibly the F5300 . I might end up with the F5300 because I do not care for the Smart features nor the 3D. I think the F8500 might have the same black levels as the F5300 but I could be wrong.

There is lots of information on this forum regarding the differences between the F8500 and F5300. My understanding in a nutshell, other than smart features, 3D, more HDMI ports, etc. is that the 5300 has a pentile display and the F8500 does not (also plenty of information on this forum regarding this), the 5300 cannot reach the peak brightness of the F8500, the F5300 does not have the anti-glare feature that the F8500 has. Both are pretty close as far as black levels.

Yeah I read on some of that and was told pentile does not matter if you sit at least 6-8ft away and the brightness/glare is not an issue if there is controlled room lighting. I might pull the trigger and get the F5300 and take my 50" Panny to the bedroom.

Nice. I think I am safe on this model to wait until next week and see if I can get lucky with some type of Black Friday discount on it. Doubtful but worth a shot.

Depending where you buy it from I am sure if you get it now they will price match it.

I was reading on the PN60F5300 and it mentions 1080p vertical resolution black and white but the pn51f5300 mentions FullHD 1080p.
Does this mean the 61" is not Full 1080P?

You can read a technical explanation of the PN60F5300's resolution in this post. To sum it up, "Resolution test charts and alternating-pixel test patterns confirm it is providing full 1080p resolution for rec. 709 content."

Black Friday ads are out. Check bfads.net. Click ad scans at the top and look for best buy. I do not think I saw the F5300 or any plasma in there, but I could be wrong.

I also did not see a plasma in the BB/BF ad linked to the BB website. Of course, one never knows what could happen by the time we get to BF.

Is it more fun to use the equipment or talk about it on AVS?

Then most likely there is no big plasma production run for Black Friday. They will probably continue to sell the remaining inventory from the last shipment. But it would be nice if they would go lower than $799 again for a clearance sale.

Typically, Black Friday is not the best time to buy a decent pq tv. Most of the time, the doorbusters are for lower end or prior year models. Yes, there are definitely some great deals (P Series for $698!! @ Walmart). But you are better off waiting to see if something comes up around new years. TV's always go low for bowl games/playoffs/super bowl. Happy hunting!

It may not repeat this year, but last year's low price on the PN51F5300 was from something like Black Friday into a week or so of December, if I recall correctly, something like $529. The best price at Super Bowl time was $599.

I'm not sure that means anything for this year or for the PN60F5300. If you see a deal you like, you may want to snap it up. When these plasmas are gone, . . .

I can confirm that even though Best Buy's website says A, if you buy it you'll get a B. It even says B in the confirmation email.

$495 + tax with a mover's coupon was too good to pass up

The PN60F5300 has a pentile display and the PN51F5300 does not. Non-pentile is a good thing.

Congrats! What size? Feel free to report back as you continue to use it. @orion2001 has posted some calibration settings you might want to check out.
