I have two f8500 in 64" and 55"
I compared them endlessly two months against the vt60
For me the vt60 had much more ghosting, banding and the thing that drove me nuts the most was that the vt60 was very "unsharp" at displaying any movie or for example a 1:1 pixel pattern. The text of windows folders or files was far far far sharper on the f8500 with sharpness at 0

The vt60 didnt display pixel per pixel but it spread one pixel to 5 pixels and made it muddy/unsharp, so no sharpness tweaking would help

Yes the vt60 has very good blacks but lacks in many other things.
Also this weird green/yellow ghosting/banding on noses or lamps or contours was driving me crazy

I compared two f8500 (55" and 65") to two vt60 55"
Side by side
Vt60 have fans that you can hear as soon as you turn the tv on.
F8500 has sometimes a buzz, but you can try to lessen it by fastening or losing the screws from the case at the back.

I have my 60VT60 professionally calibrated every 18 months and have never had the problems you mention.

Is the F8500 generally considered on par with the VT60/ZT60/Kuro and even better in some ways?

I don't have any measured black levels but pretty much on par. A little less black than Panny and Kuro but brighter. The big problem has been reliability for the 8500.

Last night I switched my VT60 from "Light" Black Level to "Dark", cranked up the contrast and brightness to compensate, and blasted sharpness up to 97 and I'm blown away all over again. I felt like I was on location at the shooting of The Empire Strikes Back.

I'm actually serious believe it or not. Which parts of this are ridiculous? I can imagine sharpness 97 falls into that category but is it possible that my plasma has been used so much that it needs that much sharpness enhancement? I recently bought it used. Isn't black level usually set to "Dark" instead of "Light"?

Proud owner of a 55" VT30 here, and previously owned a 42" G20 plasma. I took a tour of a few AV shops to look at some high end OLEDs about 2 years ago but quickly realised the motion (my main concern) is still far superior on my plasma. Comments in this thread have informed the situation isn't much better today. This is good and bad for me, good because I can hang on to my plasma for another few years and save some money, bad because if my plasma dies soon I will have no option but to buy another used plasma if I still want good quality motion.

When I bought my VT30 I did compare with some samsung plasmas, although the brightness on the samsungs is superior my room is well light-controlled so not an issue for me, and I found the colour reproduction on the panasonic to be more accurate.

The only issue with the plasma for me is the power consumption/room heating which I certainly do notice in the summer in my 1500cuft room.

Light is the preferred setting. Dark crushes blacks. See if you are flashing at 17 in a dark room.

I do this when watching 4k movies because it gives me back the HDR look I lost by going back to a non hdr screen lol

Will try this tonight!

Could anyone lend me their THX settings? Nothing from D-Nice for the VT60/ZT60 that I can find.

i think you need an new thread here.
i Had OLED but now i want the 500M

The list of OLEDs i have owned are a few over the years.

from the start.
LG 8800 flat Gallery OLED from 2013
LG B6
LG B7
LG C8
Panasonic GZ950

What all these OLEDs have in common are as follow:

All looks like LCDs with better contrast.
Dead/sluggish looking Sample and hold motion.
Flat image in motion compared to the KUROs (an effect of low motion resolution)
Cartoon smear in motion (also an effect of low motion resolution)
Muted colors with light leak (yellowish greens and flat looking Reds that cant be fixed with calibration)
Not accurate 6500K looking whites due to the LED light they use with the dominating Blue spectra radiation.
An colder tone in the picture even after visually matched whites compared to reference.
Colortints off axis
Decent to bad near black performance.
Noise/macro blocking near black due to the low Bit precision (4-6bit)
Inaccurate color mixing due to the white subpixel that affects the true RGB color mix (some colors are off here and there even after calibration)
RGB brightness around 390 nits (its the same for all..whats different now is that the white subpixel is boosted for higher peak brightness)
Low concentration in the image (compared to the KUROs) due to the low pixel fillrate at 30% (pixel size from an normal 30 inch tv)

There is probably more that i have spotted from 6 years of OLED testing and comparision to an reference 500M Plasma monitor but this should be enough....to keep the 500M a while

Years back when i would walk into Best Buy and looked at all the TV's under the worst lighting conditions most Plasma's looked terrible. Yet, now when i walk in i can instantly see how fantastic the OLEDS look, without even trying. I'm a plasma fanatic... but those OLED's give me butterflies in my belly!
