Panasonic DP-UB820 and 2009 Plasma TV

I need to replace my old Oppo and am considering the Panasonic DP-UB820-KHDR. Will this DVD player work with my 2009 Samsung plasma TV?

I am not interested in any special bells and whistles and no longer subscribe to Blu-ray with Netflix. I just need a solid DVD player to work with my Pioneer receiver, Samsung plasma TV, and APC line conditioner, and external speakers.

I just can't figure out how to determine whether it would work or not.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks,
Lynnea

I don't know why it wouldn't work.I can't say for sure though.Of course you won't be able to use the main benefits of that player(4K etc.).It should work fine for Blu-Ray use.

I use my OPPO 203 with a Panasonic Plasma(2013) for that purpose.Made the switch for future 4K TV.

Do not buy the UB820 unless you own a UHD TV. That is a popular UHD player and it is not cheap either. By the time you replace the Plasma with a UHD TV the UB820 is replaced by a newer updated UHD model and the price will drop considerately. Just buy a blu-ray player that does DVD upscaling.

The UB820 does UHD, blu-ray and DVD and one will be able to connect it to a Plasma TV.

Any suggestions for a DVD player which might be a better choice right now to be connected to a plasma TV?

A blu-ray player with DVD upscaling would be a better choice for a HD TV. DVD stuff will look better that way.

Lots of people selling their blu-ray players these days which often are rarely used anyway. So one could buy a blu-ray player which was expensive once for a few bucks. I myself bought a few Sony S790 Blu-ray players recently but that is mainly for blu-ray's.

I just checked the specs for the Samsung model I have, and the resolution is 1920 x 1080. Would I still need to look for a DVD player with upscaling?

Your TV is a 1080p TV which is full HD.
DVD players with upscaling for HD ready 720p TVs were sold because blu-ray players with DVD upscaling were not available yet. Even on a Playstation 3 which is mainly a gaming machine, which has a blu-ray player on board, a DVD will look better than upscaling on any DVD player.

I reconsidered my first choice for a new DVD player which would require a lot more equipment so all the pieces would work well together.

I just need a simple DVD play to work with the Samsung plasma TV. It doesn't have to play Blu-ray discs.

What specifications should I be looking for?

Any suggestions?

Thanks for any advice you can give me.
