HDMI Bypass

We have a six year old Panasonic Plasma that has dysfunctional HDMI ports. The component ports still work. The TV is currently connected via coaxial cable directly from the cable box. It works but, it is not HD. There are on the market adapters that convert an HDMI signal to component. Can anyone tell me if one of these converters is a good solution to getting and HD signal. I'm told that there may be copyright protections involved and it may not work. I don't understand why that would be and issue but,...

I ordered a converter unit through Amazon. It was not the cheapest unit but, I followed some recommendations I found on an internet search. I received it today and hooked it up with no problems. It works great! I am very pleased that I don't have to ditch my beautiful plasma TV. The unit also has an optical port for my sound bar. I would have been happy at twice the price. Thanks for your reply.

Nice. Do you have a link to the exact one you chose?
