Does anyone have experience with the 8X1 Enhanced Powered HDMI Switcher w/ Remote ? It is a very resonable cost with auto switching (kind of) and an rs232 port, plus ears for rack mounting.

Any comments good or bad?

I had written a review on it, but the data loss on AVS recently took the review with it.

So here it is again.

Not many are using this switcher so I thought I would add my thoughts.

I had been using a 5x1 switcher which has been great in its performance.

Its a bigger box than I thought it would be, but it is rack mountable which is an added benefit.

The unit is all black and looks like another nice piece of gear in the rack.

It has a small remote, with no lighting at all.

The front green and red led lights can be bright with the selected source flashing its red , which I put an end to by using "skin" material to cover them.

The specs say the PC output is 1600x1200, yet I pass 1920x1080/60 from my HTPC with no issues. Not sure why they say that, as all outputs are rated up to 1080p. Maybe a typo.

It also does 1080/24 just fine.

Switching time is about 5 seconds, could be a bit faster.

Overall, I'm happy with its performance.

And for those of you who might wonder who needs 8 HDMI ports, here is what I have plugged into mine.

HD DVD XA2
Cable DVR
PS3
JVC 5U DVHS
HTPC
360 Elite
Oppo 971 DVD
HDV camcorders

Thanks Blasst in addition to the eight ports I like the RS232 control port. Have you used that yet?

Well, unfortunately, the 5x1 switch didn't work with my Sony KD-34XBR960 and an Oppo Digital DV-981HD. I was able to return the 5x1 switch and get their (at that time) newer 4x1 switch (v2.5) with worked.

Sony XBR-75X940E
Onkyo TX-NR777
DIRECTV HS17 + C61K
Oppo UDP-203
TV 4K

Yep, Monoprice is the way to go. Who would have ever thought we would be hooking up 8 HDMI devices? I sure didn't

I do not have 8 yet! but no reason to buy a switch and have it maxed out the first day. So 8 gives me a little room to grow with 4 HDMI devices today.

I had been maxed out and above with the 5 way switcher, so I was full up on day one with the 8x1.

One of the best things I've done, since I was tired of switching cables when I wanted to use a device that didn't have a dedicated port.

I had even thought of going with 2 4x2 switchers, but settled on the 8x1.

I use it for two displays, and only have to switch the output cable when I fire up the PJ.

Whose codes should be transferred ASAP to a learning remote, as it seems very cheap and unreliable.
