Our experience with 'Optical' HDMI cables is that they can be fussy in certain system configurations and prone to failing - we moved to the RuiPro Hybrid Fibre HDMI cables a while back and find they are more universally 'plug and play', are very reliable and on the odd occasion where you do need to inject power you can add a low cost cable plus regulated PSU at the Sink (Display end of the cable).

The temptation with any cable with a 'flying' USB stub is to assume your AVR, TV, Projector USB socket will be ideal to power the cable - we find that not to be the case and usually prefer to use an external regulated PSU.
