Blue Kentucky Girl is an album by country music artist Emmylou Harris, released in 1979.

The album features more traditional country than the country-rock sound of Harris' previous releases. Songs include work by Willie Nelson and Gram Parsons. Rodney Crowell's "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues" featured harmonies by Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt, and came out of the women's 1978 recording sessions, where they first attempted to record a "trio" album (nearly a full decade before they actually succeeded in doing so).

The album won the 1980 Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. "Beneath Still Waters" became Harris' fourth #1 hit, covers of The Drifters' 1960 hit "Save The Last Dance For Me" and the title track (originally recorded by Loretta Lynn) were top ten hits on the US country charts.

In 2006, the album ranked #20 on CMT's Greatest Albums in Country Music.

Don Everly: Duet Vocals
Dolly Parton: Backing Vocals
Linda Ronstadt: Backing Vocals
Ricky Skaggs: Fiddle, 5-String Fiddle, Mandolin, Backing Vocals
Tanya Tucker: Duet Vocals

Saturday Night - Grand Ole Opry is a compilation album from 1962 on DECCA Records.

TOMMY JACKSON: Theme: Bitter Creek Breakdown
KITTY WELLS: How Can I Believe In You
ROY DRUSKY: Must It Be Me
BILL ANDERSON: Flowing Waters And Shifting Sands
TOMPALL AND THE GLASER BROTHERS: Words Come Easy
JIMMY NEWMAN: Just One More Night With You
ERNEST TUBB: It Happened When I Really Needed You

PATSY CLINE: Lovin' In Vain
BILL MONROE: Thinking About You
JOHNNY AND JACK: Love Problems
BILLY GRAMMER: Living On Love
THE WILBURN BROTHERS: Which One Will It Be
ROY ACUFF: I Like Mountain Music
TOMMY JACKSON: Fiddler's Dream

The Grand Ole Opry is a weekly country-music stage concert in Nashville, Tennessee, which was founded on November 28, 1925, by George D. Hay as a one-hour radio "barn dance" on WSM. It is the longest-running radio broadcast in US history. Dedicated to honoring country music and its history, the Opry showcases a mix of legends and contemporary chart-toppers performing country, bluegrass, folk, gospel, and comedic performances and skits. In 1939, it debuted nationally on NBC Radio. The Opry moved to a permanent home, the Ryman Auditorium, in 1943.

On October 2, 1954, a teenage Elvis Presley made his only Opry performance. Although the audience reacted politely to his revolutionary brand of rockabilly music, after the show Opry manager Jim Denny told Presley's producer Sam Phillips that the singer's style did not suit the program.

In the 1960s, as the hippie counterculture movement spread, the Opry maintained a strait-laced, conservative image with "longhairs" not being featured on the show. The Byrds were a notable exception. Country rock pioneer Gram Parsons, who at that time was a member of The Byrds, was in Nashville to work on the band's country rock album, Sweetheart of the Rodeo. The Byrds outraged the Opry establishment when they performed Parsons' song "Hickory Wind" instead of the Merle Haggard song "Life in Prison", as had been announced.

Another artist that ran afoul of the Opry's stringent standards was Jerry Lee Lewis, who, after several years of success on the country charts, made his first and only appearance on the show on January 20, 1973. Given two conditions for his appearance (no rock and roll and no profanity), Lewis proceeded to disregard both.

In May 2010, the Opry House was flooded, along with much of Nashville, due to the Cumberland River overflowing its banks. While repairs were made, the Opry itself remained uninterrupted.

The Grand Ole Opry House was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 27, 2015.

Ray of Light is the seventh studio album by American singer Madonna, released on February 22, 1998.

A major departure from her previous work, Ray of Light is an electronica record which incorporates several genres, including techno, trip hop, drum and bass, ambient, rock, and classical music. Vocally, the album saw Madonna sing with greater breadth and a fuller tone. Mystical themes are also strongly present in both lyrics and music as a result of Madonna embracing Kabbalah, her study of Hinduism and Buddhism, as well as her daily practice of Hatha Yoga.

Ray of Light has been noted for its mature, restrained nature; reviewers also praised Madonna's vocals. Vocally, the album was also a marked change from Madonna's previous work; as the singer underwent vocal training lessons for her 1996 film Evita, her vocals exhibited greater breadth and range, as well as a fuller timbre. In many songs, she also abandoned the vibrato which was present in her previous work. Critically, it is said to have Madonna's best and fullest vocals. Critics have also noted the way in which Madonna was able to re-invent herself and remain contemporary among the teenage artists of the period.

Ray of Light won four Grammy Awards, including Best Pop Album, the first musical Grammy of Madonna's career as previously she only won in the video category.

Rolling Stone magazine placed the album at number 367 on the list of "500 Greatest Albums of All Time".

Los Angeles is the debut album of the American punk rock band X, released on April 26, 1980.

Produced by ex-Doors keyboard player Ray Manzarek, it includes a cover of the 1967 Doors song "Soul Kitchen" featuring Manzarek on keyboards.

Los Angeles was reviewed very positively from its first release. Allmusic's review concludes that the album "is considered by many to be one of punk's all-time finest recordings, and with good reason."

X formed in Los Angeles in 1977. Established among the first wave of American punk, X was founded by bassist/singer John Doe and guitarist Billy Zoom. Doe brought his poetry-writing girlfriend Exene Cervenka to band practices, and she eventually joined the band as a vocalist. The band received an Official Certificate of Recognition from the City of Los Angeles in acknowledgment of its contribution to Los Angeles music and culture.

The album was ranked number 286 on the Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Pirates is the second album by Chicago-born singer, songwriter, and musician Rickie Lee Jones, released in July 1981, two years after her eponymous debut Rickie Lee Jones (and a Grammy for Best New Artist).

The album is partially an account of her break-up with fellow musician Tom Waits after the success of her debut album. Jones relocated to New York City after her split from Tom Waits, and soon set up home with a fellow musician, Sal Bernardi, who had been referenced in the lyrics to "Weasel and the White Boys Cool" from her debut.

The music on Pirates is often cinematic, with influences ranging from Leonard Bernstein to Bruce Springsteen and Laura Nyro. The album is more musically ambitious than its predecessor, and explores elements of jazz, R&B, bebop, pop, and Broadway, with multiple changes in tempo and mood within most songs.

Session musicians included Donald Fagen on synthesizer and David Sanborn on alto saxophone.

Pirates was well received by most critics achieving a five-star rating in Rolling Stone, which featured Jones for a second time on the cover. The album also became a Top 5 US chart success, and remained on the album charts for three months without the aid of a major hit single.

In recent years, Pirates' reputation has grown considerably, with British-based music magazine Word magazine proclaiming it as one of pop music's 25 Most Underrated Albums of All Time.

The Magazine is the third full-length studio album by Rickie Lee Jones, released in September 1984.

After the release of Pirates in July 1981, Jones spent 1982 on the road on tour before kicking her addiction to heroin and cocaine.

Jones took up residence in Paris in April 1983 for four months. Jones said: "I got an apartment for $800 on the Boulevard des Invalides." It was also in Paris that Jones kicked her alcohol habit, "I started drinking...more heavily than I had ever drunk in my life. I drank for about six weeks. When I started waking up and drinking in the day, I figured-umm, bad news. I finally just drank too much one night and said "That's enough of this."

Time, Dec. 17, 1984 - "This is only her third full album, and she seems bent on proving, quite unnecessarily, what she has already established: she is the most enterprising woman writer making records today. The Magazine, a spiraling cycle of songs organized around themes of loneliness, defiance, memory and renewal, seems as if it was long and hard in coming."

Across a Crowded Room is the third solo album by Richard Thompson released in 1985.

In Rolling Stone, Kurt Loder described the album as "replete with rollicking rhythms, master-class guitar excursions and piercing lyrical apercus. Richard appears to have his former partner much on his mind — and the lyrical pictures he paints are not pretty."

He formed his first band "Emil and the Detectives" with classmate Hugh Cornwell, later lead singer and guitarist of The Stranglers, on bass guitar. His father had seen Django Reinhardt play in Glasgow in the 1930s and played guitar himself. He was later described by his son as "a bad amateur player himself, with three chords, though, unfortunately, not C, F and G." Thompson's guitar playing caught the ear of American producer Joe Boyd. Joe Boyd said, "He can imitate almost any style, and often does, but is instantly identifiable. In his playing you can hear the evocation of the Scottish piper's drone and the melody of the chanter... and Jerry Lee Lewis's piano. But no blues clichés."

By the age of 18 Thompson was playing with the newly formed Fairport Convention. On 12 May 1969, Fairport's van crashed on the way home from a gig at a club in Birmingham. Drummer Martin Lamble, aged 19, and Thompson's girlfriend Jeannie Franklyn were killed.

Thompson was awarded the Orville H. Gibson Award for best acoustic guitar player in 1991. His songwriting has earned him a lifetime achievement award from BBC Radio. Artists who have recorded Thompson's compositions include R.E.M., Bonnie Raitt, David Gilmour, Elvis Costello, Marshall Crenshaw, The Corrs, Shawn Colvin, Graham Parker, Jefferson Starship, The Pointer Sisters, Los Lobos, John Doe, Loudon Wainwright III, Dinosaur Jr., David Byrne, and The Blind Boys of Alabama.

Thompson was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2011 for services to music.

R.E.O./T.W.O. is the second studio album released by the Illinois-based rock band REO Speedwagon, released in 1972.

In the fall of 1966, Neal Doughty entered the electrical engineering program at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois, coming in as a junior. On his first night, he met another student, Alan Gratzer. They soon started a rock band. Gratzer had been a drummer since high school, and was playing in a local group on the weekends, while Doughty had learned some Beatles songs on his parents' piano. Doughty landed a summer job to buy his first keyboard. On his Farfisa organ, he learned "Light My Fire" by The Doors. The members returned to school in the fall of 1967. They named the band REO Speedwagon, from the REO Speed Wagon, a flatbed truck Doughty had studied in transportation history, and the initials are those of its founder Ransom E. Olds. Rather than pronouncing REO as a single word as the motor company did, they chose to spell out the name with the individual letters each pronounced ("R-E-O"). REO Speedwagon switched lead vocalists three times for their first three albums.

This album introduced Kevin Cronin as vocalist and contributing song writer to the band, replacing Terry Luttrell. Highlights of the album include Richrath’s “Golden Country”, a compelling political statement as well as "Like You Do". Both songs, as well as Cronin’s “Music Man”, are frequently part of the band's current setlist.
