Talking Heads

Little Creatures

OK, so after I saw @Clarence post this earlier today, I went searching through my vinyl collection because I kinda thought I had this one.

Well I do. So I pull it out and discover that it has never been opened! (Hey, how often do you get to sacrifice a virgin? ) I must have bought it back in the mid '80's around the time I switched to starting to buy CD's. LP's took a back seat after that.

For those from the Tri-State area, check out the "Crazy Eddie" sticker for $6.99!

Three Way Mirror is the fourth album by singer-songwriter Livingston Taylor, released in 1978.

The album includes two of Taylor's biggest hits, "I Will Be In Love With You" and "Going Round One More Time", later covered by his brother James Taylor on his 1985 album, That's Why I'm Here.

Livingston toured as the opening act for Linda Ronstadt. He has also toured with Joni Mitchell, Fleetwood Mac, Jimmy Buffett, and Jethro Tull.

Livingston is a full professor at Berklee College of Music, where he has taught a Stage Performance course since 1989. He teaches young artists invaluable lessons learned over the course of an extensive career on the road; the course is consistently voted the most popular at the College. Former students include Charlie Puth, Liz Longley, and Gavin DeGraw.

Tom Peterson and Another Language is the debut and only mini-album/EP from American musician and former Cheap Trick bassist Tom Peterson; released in 1984.

In 1980, Petersson left Cheap Trick, shortly after the recording of their fifth studio album All Shook Up with producer George Martin. He left the band to work with his then-wife Dagmar, at the time a European model. Peterson (Petersson dropping the extra pseudo-Swedish 's' from his name), formed a new group with Dagmar, session guitarist Jeffrey Rollings, and drummer Thom Mooney who once played with Todd Rundgren.

The majority of the lead vocals were performed by Dagmar, although Petersson made an occasional vocal appearance. Petersson produced and arranged the record himself, and also played piano, as well as 12 and 18-string bass.

The release was not a commercial success. Out of 10,000 vinyl copies printed, it reportedly sold only 323 copies. The band soon split afterwards and this was followed by the failure of their marriage.

This was the last anyone heard from the bassist until 1987 when he accidentally spilled beer on guitarist Rick Nielsen at a birthday bash for a member of Duran Duran, which not-so-strangely led to his permanent reunion with Cheap Trick, returning for their 1988 album Lap of Luxury.

In 2016, Tom Peterson was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Cheap Trick.
I've been a Cheap Trick fan for 40 years, but I didn't know Tom had a solo album until reading his wiki page on his birthday a couple of years ago.

This week I found an autographed copy...

In November, my wife and I are going to visit Prague. While looking at sights to see and things to do in Prague, I found Tom's 12-string bass at the Prague Hard Rock...

Quote:
If you really want to make a lot of racket, get yourself a 12-string bass like this beautiful Waterstone. Cheap Trick’s Tom Petersson has always been the leading proponent of multi-string basses and has influenced an entire generation of bassists to try these beasts (including Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam). This one was used both live and in the studio by Tom.

Mystery to Me is the eighth studio album by British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac, released in 1973.

This was their last album to feature Bob Weston. During the band's American tour of 1973, it became clear that Bob Weston was having an affair with Mick Fleetwood's wife Jenny. Although Fleetwood tried to carry on playing with Weston, regardless of the extramarital issues, Mick told the McVies and guitarist/singer Bob Welch that he could no longer play with Weston in the line-up. John Courage, the band's road manager, fired Weston and put him on a plane back to the UK.

The album is the end of an era in two ways: it is their last album recorded in England and the last to have two guitarists in the line-up until Behind the Mask. As with the previous album Penguin, the group hired the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio and brought it down to their communal house in Hampshire. Dave Walker was asked to leave during the sessions and none of his contributions ended up in the final release.

Most of the songs were penned by Welch and keyboardist/singer Christine McVie, who were playing a major role in edging the band's sound towards the radio-friendly pop-rock that would make them highly successful a few years later.

So...I came across, the new Jenny Lewis! Man...I had almost forgotten about JL. Spun On The Line.

IDK; she sounds...so...old. And sounding "old"...makes her sound; kinda...ordinary.

I listened to 4 tracks, and couldn't decide...if I hated it, or if this was just maturing.

I put on Under The Blacklight instead

All the Rage is the debut album by General Public, released in 1984.

Dave Wakeling - vocals, guitar (English Beat)
Ranking Roger - vocals, bass, keyboards, drums (English Beat)

Mickey Billingham - keyboards, vocals (Dexys Midnight Runners)
Horace Panter - bass (The Specials)
Andy "Stoker" Growcott - drums (Dexys Midnight Runners)
Mick Jones - guitar (The Clash, Big Audio Dynamite)

AllMusic Review:
First out of the gate with a new band after the English Beat's acrimonious fracture in June 1983, General Public was the first post-punk supergroup, gathering the Beat's Dave Wakeling and Ranking Roger, the Specials' Horace Panter, and other veterans of the U.K. ska revival.

Mick Jones, freshly booted from the Clash, was originally announced as General Public's lead guitarist; although he left the group very early on to start up Big Audio Dynamite and doesn't appear in the album photos, his guitar does appear on nearly all of the album's ten tracks.

Frankly, All the Rage could quite easily have been the fourth English Beat album, as it's a clear continuation from 1982's Special Beat Service. The ska sounds are largely absent, replaced by a mixture of catchy Brit-pop -- someone in the group is clearly a fan of both the Beatles and Elvis Costello & the Attractions -- and occasional reggae influences.

The closing track, "General Public," is a sneering putdown of British politics and the attendant old boys network, the most political song the boys had written since the days of "Stand Down Margaret" and one of their most effective reggae tunes ever, with echoes of the threatening throb of '70s classics like Culture's Two Sevens Clash. However, more of the album is along the line of the hit singles "Tenderness" (the biggest U.S. chart hit of any English Beat-related band until Fine Young Cannibals' "She Drives Me Crazy" five years later and one of Wakeling's best lost-love songs) and "Never You Done That": creamy commercial pop marrying Wakeling and Roger's well-blended vocals to a slick (but not too slick) blend of jangly guitars and the then-emergent MIDI keyboards.

All the Rage is certainly an album of its time -- those weedy synth-drums on the otherwise kinda funky "As a Matter of Fact" are a dead giveaway that this was recorded in 1984 -- but it sounds less dated than many of its contemporaries due to Wakeling's keen songwriting skills.
RIP Roger.

Songs My Father Left Me is an album by American country music singer and songwriter Hank Williams, Jr., released in 1969.

The full title is Songs My Father Left Me - The Poetry of Hank Williams, set to music and sung by Hank Williams, Jr.

Randall Hank Williams (born May 26, 1949), known professionally as Hank Williams Jr., or alternatively as “Bocephus,” is an American singer-songwriter and musician. Hank Jr provided the singing voice of his father in the 1964 film Your Cheatin' Heart.

In 1975, Williams was nearly killed in a mountain-climbing accident. While he was climbing Ajax Peak in Montana, the snow beneath him collapsed and he fell almost 500 feet onto rock. He suffered multiple skull and facial fractures. He spent two years in recovery, having several reconstructive surgeries in addition to having to learn to talk and sing again. To hide the scars and the disfigurement from the accident, Williams grew a beard and began wearing sunglasses and a cowboy hat. The beard, hat, and sunglasses have since become his signature look.

He is the son of country music singer Hank Williams and the father of Hank Williams III and Holly Williams.

Hiram King "Hank" Williams (September 17, 1923 – January 1, 1953) was an American singer-songwriter and musician. Regarded as one of the most significant and influential American singers and songwriters of the 20th century, Hank Sr recorded 35 singles (five released posthumously) that reached the Top 10 of the Billboard Country & Western Best Sellers chart, including 11 that ranked number one (three posthumously). In 1944, Williams married Audrey Sheppard. It was her second marriage and his first. Their son, Randall Hank Williams, who would achieve fame in his own right as Hank Williams Jr., was born on May 26, 1949. The marriage, always turbulent, rapidly disintegrated, and Williams developed serious problems with alcohol, morphine, and other painkillers prescribed for him to ease the severe back pain caused by his spina bifida.

Hank Sr was scheduled to perform in Charleston, West Virginia on December 31, 1952. Because of an ice storm in the Nashville area, Williams could not fly, so he hired a college student, Charles Carr, to drive him to the concerts. Carr sought a doctor for Williams after the combination of the chloral hydrate and alcohol Hank Jr had drunk on the way from Montgomery to Knoxville. Dr. P.H. Cardwell injected Williams with vitamin B12 and morphine. When they crossed the Tennessee state line and arrived in Bristol, Virginia, Carr stopped at a small all-night restaurant and asked Williams if he wanted to eat. Williams said he did not, and those are believed to be his last words. Carr later drove on until he stopped for fuel at a gas station in Oak Hill, West Virginia, where he realized that Williams was dead.

The filling station's owner called the chief of the local police. In Williams' Cadillac, the police found some empty beer cans and unfinished handwritten lyrics.
50th anniversary of this album.

Completely Well is the seventeenth studio album by blues guitarist B. B. King, released in 1969.

It is notable for the inclusion of "The Thrill Is Gone," which became a hit on both the R&B/soul and pop charts.

Rolling Stone ranked King at No. 6 on its 2011 list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time. King introduced a sophisticated style of soloing based on fluid string bending and shimmering vibrato that influenced many later electric blues guitarists.

He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 and is considered one of the most influential blues musicians of all time, earning the nickname "The King of the Blues". King was known for performing tirelessly throughout his musical career, appearing at more than 200 concerts per year on average into his 70s.

King died at the age of 89 in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 14, 2015 from complications of Alzheimer's disease along with congestive heart failure and diabetic complications.
