I picked up a VG LP at a used Record Store about a year ago. They were one of those special groups that were better live than on record. And the recording is very good.

Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind is the fourth studio album by American country music artist George Strait, released in 1984.

It is certified platinum for sales of one million copies. The title track, "The Cowboy Rides Away", and "The Fireman" were released as singles.

AllMusic Review:
Two years after his breakthrough album, Strait From the Heart, George Strait was riding the charts again with perhaps his finest recorded moment. Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind, both the album and the song, were, along with Dwight Yoakam's Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc., the only real traditional country records on the radio in 1984. And Strait is not a "new traditionalist." He came out of Texas a country singer, and album after album he proved that he was a traditional country singer.

The title cut, written by Sanger and Darlene Shafer is one of four they placed on the album, and another, "Honky Tonk Saturday Night," charted as the disc's second single. Jimmy Bowen staggered the tunes here to reflect all of Strait's considerable strengths -- there are hot and jumpy Western swing numbers such as "Any Old Time" and ballads like "You're Dancin' This Dance All Wrong," along with honky tonk weepers such as "I Should Have Watched That First Step." But there are a few barroom ravers as well as the swinging honky tonk of "Love Comes From the Other Side of Town" and the smoking closer "The Fireman."

This is the tightest selection of tracks, perfectly sequenced and gorgeously sung by an earthy country singer who was at the very top of his powers. Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind is an enduring classic two decades later and is timeless in its appeal.
George Harvey Strait Sr. (born May 18, 1952) is an American country music singer, songwriter, actor, and music producer. George Strait is known as the "King of Country" and is considered one of the most influential and popular recording artists of all time. In the 2000s, Strait was named Artist of the Decade by the Academy of Country Music, was elected into the Country Music Hall of Fame, and won his first Grammy award. Strait was named CMA Entertainer of the Year in 1989, 1990 and 2013, and ACM Entertainer of the Year in 1990 and 2014. He has been nominated for more CMA and ACM awards and has more wins in both categories than any other artist.

He broke Conway Twitty's previous record (40) for the most number-one hits on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart. Strait has amassed a total of 60 number-one hits, giving him more number one songs than any other artist in any genre of music.
Autographed.

George Strait's 67th birthday is this week.

Live at 18th & M is an album by former street-performer Bob Devlin, released in 1976.

Washington Post, 5/20/1995:
For many Washingtonians, Bob Devlin was always sunshine on a working day. The diminutive folk singer was for years a lunch-time treat on assorted downtown street corners, where you'd hear jubilant music and see a milling crowd, mostly working stiffs regenerating tired minds and bodies through Devlin's genial music and the sudden choruses he inspired.

And there, at the heart of it all (albeit dizzily over-billed) was "The Bob Devlin Street Band." Band? Actually, it was Devlin sitting on his folding chair, his acoustic guitar wired into small battery-powered amps, a cracked cymbal underfoot, microphone and harmonica attached to a headset, with cowbells, duck calls and assorted whistles right handy. In fact, Devlin sounded just like a band. With his friendly bush beard and constant cap, Devlin, who died Thursday [5/18/1995] in Rockville at age 49, an apparent suicide, looked every bit the urban hobo. And he made his music electric through willpower and unstoppable charm. It seldom took long for the plastic bucket in front of "the bandstand" to fill with money; Devlin actually recorded his first album on site in the late '70s. It was called "Live at 18th and M," and as he released other albums over the years, they'd lean against his amps, making him a one-man Tower.

And while Bob Devlin was a one-man band, he never sang alone. "He had a keen sense of the fact he was able to entertain every audience he got in front of," says acclaimed D.C.-based folk musician Cathy Fink. "What Bob did was to transcend all the divisions that are there for entertainers, when it comes to what age you can appeal to. Little kids, old folks and everybody in between liked him. Bob could get a 60-year-old to sing along as fast as he could get a 4-year-old to sing along."

A prolific songwriter as well as a consummate entertainer, Devlin had a way of cutting to the heart of the matter, as he did with "When the Rain Comes Down," a much-recorded original learned by thousands of local families as part of the Wolf Trap Curriculum for Early Learning Through the Arts.
When the rain comes down, it comes down on everyone
When the rain comes down, it comes down on everyone
No matter if you're rich or poor, no matter if you're great or small
When the rain comes down, it comes down on us all.
"It's the kind of song that 50 years from now will be a verified folk song," says Fink.

What he didn't find in other people's songs, Devlin put into his own. That included dollops of humor, as in the song popularly known as "You Can't Elope With a Cantaloupe," from 1978's "When the Rain Comes Down" (originally titled "Are You My Mother?"), a children's album he recorded with Michele Valeri. "He was so crucial to me," Valeri said yesterday after a children's concert in Pennsylvania. "Bob made me dream things I'd never dreamed before. I was scared of recording, and he told me that a record simply tells you where you are going as a musician." The album was one of the top children's recordings recommended by the American Library Association.

Devlin stopped doing street performances six years ago [in 1989], spending more time making tapes that reflected his strong Christian commitment, and trying to connect his songs to other people's voices.
A full-time performer and member of Washington, DC's music community for over 20 years, Bob Devlin first received acclaim for his popular street concerts during the late 70s and early 80s. Along with his notoriety for wild and witty songs for children, Bob also appeared for adult audiences at The National Theatre, Kennedy Center, Wolf Trap, and the White House.
Autographed.

Ha! Don't take music recommendations from me... I tend to prefer variety and quirky and obscurity more than most people.

Here's some more background on Bob Devlin:

They Might Be Giants, sometimes called The Pink Album, is the debut album from Brooklyn-based band They Might Be Giants, released in 1986.

The album generated two singles, "Don't Let's Start" and "(She Was A) Hotel Detective".

Some unconventional recording techniques were used in the production of the album. The music is spare, mostly uptempo synthesizer-and-guitar pop punctuated with odd sound samples and occasionally veering into sparse country- or folk-like arrangements. Drum and bass tracks are almost entirely synthesized, though the album prominently features the accordion. In order to record the guitar solo in "Absolutely Bill's Mood", the band telephoned Eugene Chadbourne in Greensboro, NC. Chadbourne played the acoustic solo and it was recorded onto the studio's answering machine, then mixed into the song.

The album's cover art was illustrated by Rodney Alan Greenblat, who had no prior association with the band. John Linnell commented that the illustration caused the record to be mistaken for a children's album.

The album was received with positive critical attention. Robert Christgau of The Village Voice, who gave the album an A, praised the album for its wide range of variety and cleverness, saying "the hits just keep on coming in an exuberantly annoying show of creative superabundance". He also made note of the unusualness of the subject matter contained in the lyrics. Jim Farber of Rolling Stone stressed the album's "weirdness", and also noted the diversity in style among songs that "incorporate genres from art pop to country to polka".
Wow, it's been 33 years and I still know every word...

No one in the world ever gets what they want, and that is beautiful
Everybody dies frustrated and sad, and that is beautiful
They want what they're not and I wish they would stop singing
"Deputy-dog-dog-a-ding-dang-depadepa", "deputy-dog-dog-a-ding-dang-depadepa"

D, world destruction
O, for an overture
N, do I need
Apostrophe T, need this torture?
