Oops! Sorry I forgot about you/my post.

To dampen resonance you can easily buy no-rez sheets. http://gr-research.com/norez24x27sheet.aspx
Or if you want to go cheaper - just buy a bunch of non-drying (kid's) clay and plaster it on.

As for the crossover - these are great and will really improve your sound but pretty pricey! http://www.klipschupgrades.com/vxcrossovers.shtml

Otherwise, you can google other crossover improvements/fixes yourself.

Every time I pick up a few used CDs I think about you and your local digs. Buy as much and often as you can, sources dry up quickly (my local area)

My area has really dried up this last couple months. I think someone is out and about trying to make my life hard by buying up all the good music. I am planning a run to hit ALL of my area spots for used CD's and vinyl. Maybe I can get lucky finding some stuff. I plan to take my niece who I recently turned on to her own music collection. She's the one I gave the Sony Elite Receiver, Sony Elite CD Player and Boston Acoustic speakers. She has told me numerous times it was the best birthday gift she ever got. (Warms my heart)

Well, I did manage to get out today and hit most of my local sources for music. I picked up 4 new to me CD's and found a 5-pack of CD jewel cases for $1 at a local Goodwill. I can always use more jewel cases. My niece, who was going to go with me, decided not to go and hang out with a friend so maybe she will go on my next run. I did get to take her to breakfast before we went our separate ways. I may have time tomorrow to clean and refurbish some of the CD's I have picked up over the last month or two. It all depends on my free time tomorrow.

GoodWill recently opened a clearance warehouse locally, where they sell off, by weight, the stuff that didn't sell in their regular stores. Had a look in there last week and found a few CDs (20) that clearly no-one else wanted. Cost me slightly less than $10. Metallica's S&M was probably the CD that made the trip worthwhile.

I haven't found any slowdown in CD and vinyl collections coming up for grabs. I think last time I posted here, I mentioned a "living estate sale" that I'd found. 10,000 recordings allowed me to substantially increase my classical collection.

Finally picked up a Digital Stylus Pressure Gauge,I calibrated it just to be on the safe side, measured my Cart weight and it was 1.73 instead of 1.8 that I set it up with my trusty dusty Shure Stylus Gauge. I do actually believe that I heard a little more bass and mids. The cart is a Audio Technica At Art9, great sounding cart I could definitely have ended my cartridge search.

I guess I'm on the 'Salk Train'! I bought a used pair of Salk Surround One's for the bedroom setup. They are driven by a very capable Onkyo TX-8270 stereo receiver, the one with HDMI switching. Works perfect, the bedroom setup sounds very much like the Salk Song Towers but not so much bass, the Surround One's play as low as 50hz, and since they are ported it tends to drop off quickly. I've measured the IL40s that these replaced, I get very good bass down to 35hz, not bad for an 8"woofer. I'm getting 50hz from the Surround One's, good enough for going to sleep music.

This pic was 'lifted' from Salk Audio, I hope Jim doesn't mind. Mine are maple, very light veneer, well done and sounds excellent. If you are looking for a decent performing bookshelf put this one on your list.

I've been wanting this for years; a listing came up on Discogs at $100, I offered $85, which was accepted. This has been going for around $200 or more the last few years. The box I received is in very nice condition and the seller states that the DVD-Audio disc was never played and it looks like it. I have not yet listened to it, but since two of my vehicles have DVD-Audio players, I have no excuse for not listening to the DVD-A very soon.

I just sold an Anthem Statement A2 and an Outlaw 2200 mono amp and picked up a mint, re-capped Krell KAV 250a/3.

For now it's only powering my main L/R speakers, but eventually it will also be powering the front stage in my hybrid 2 channel/HT main system when I have a new center channel built to match my new mains (probably next year sometime). Also, space is at a premium in my rack so it's nice to consolidate the 2 channel and the mono amp into one box.

I'm thinking this is it for a while (hopefully a couple years) as I've recently upgraded my main source (Esoteric SA-50) my main speakers (Selah Audio Vigore) and now my main amplifier.

May I ask, what do those speakers cost and where can they be bought?

They look nice, and all those components at "top shelf" bits. Any details on cabinet build and binding posts?

They are built by a custom Internet Direct brand called Selah Audio

This particular model is a custom 3-way that digs down into the 30Hz range because I don't have room for towers in my current system, but I love bass and don't particularly love integrating subwoofers in my 2 channel systems.

They were in the $3k USD range with the veneer and crossover upgrades.

On the cabinets: "1" MDF baffle and 3/4" MDF walls. There's a perimeter brace between the mid and woofer plus additional bracing between the mid and tweeter and parallel to the mid. The walls are covered with a composite damping material. The midrange has a sealed subenclosure"

The finish is a dyed quartered real walnut veneer. Not sure about the specifics of the binding posts, but they're nice and beefy.

I'm still here and I haven't choked and croaked yet. Haven't been posting because we're in the thick of car show/hangout season here (my other major hobby).

And because of the late winter, couldn't get started on the mini mechanical refresh that I wanted to do, since the restoration is 18 years old, until mid May. I do almost all of the work myself unless its going to be so noisy that I could get a little HOA action against me.

I do a lot of driving in the season so want to make sure everything is safe and reliable.

So anyway, out to bike then Cars and Coffee at Lennox then gym then afternoon charity show.

Only music system getting any use is in the car and garage.

So if any of you central Ohio folks see this around at local events, come on up and say hi.

The first weekend by myself at home as my family are in the Dominican Republic for 3 weeks. That means I get to vegetate in front of the stereo all day long and listening to my recent acquisition - the Creek Audio Evolution 50CD player. I choose the Creek Audio based on reviews and specs, specifically the dual DACs. I thought about getting a SACD/CD player, but I am afraid I might start a SACD collection and that means more money to spend. I also took the time to clean up the cabinet and tidy up the cables/chords.

I did an A-B comparison between the Creek Audio and my Cambridge Audio Azur 550C cd player by playing a few of my favorite tracks for less than 1 min each and then switching to the other player quickly to see if I can hear any difference. It took about 6 to 8 times of listening very closely to each track to detect any subtle difference. There is a little clearer separation of the instruments and voice on Creek Audio player. For casual listening, I probably will not detect the difference between the two players. I better not let my wife know that!!

Love the music and this hobby!

I had bought my 3rd cassette deck, a Yamaha KX-630 off of EBay but it had alignment issues. I brought it over to one of the more reputable repair shops and now sounds as good as my other two decks. I wired it into my 3rd system which is up in the bedroom.
