I'm guilty of assembling cheap, comparatively speaking surround systems in the main tv rooms but my man cave is 2 speakers, separate electronics and the bulk of my disposable income.

Meridian dsp8000se upgrade, Vienna acoustics Beethoven's, Hegel H360, Roon Nucleus, Rega jupiter cd, Revox s26 tuner,

2 Channel - Ascend Sierra Tower w/ RAAL, Sony HAP-Z1ES, Marantz SA-KI-Pearl, Primaluna Dialogue Three, Parasound Halo A21, JL Audio CR1, JL Audio E112 and ATS Acoustics room treatments

2C is the only way to go for me. Will be moving my pioneer TT from family room 2 to my bedroom, and replace it with a Jazz friendly TT. I'm looking for a Jazz friendly TT for under $500.00 that's black gloss to match my pioneer elite combo.

I have to admit I'm an HT guy. One 5.1 system, mostly movies; but i am looking to get into pure audio (no video) 2-channel to see what I'v been missing. Currently I run all my audio in direct or pure direct mode so I get 2-channel from my existing setup. It works well but the grass is definitely looking greener on the other side. Definitely more bang-for-the-buck in 2 channel from what I've researched so far.

I can say this because we are in the 2 channel forum, 2 great loudspeakers sound better than 4,5, or 7 good loudspeakers. You can work out the financial math for yourself.

I had a 2 channel system in the great room but took it down until I get around to upgrading a 2 channel preamp I want to use. I have to say it did sound very good for 2 small speakers and a sub. My main system in my man cave is 9.2 and I wouldn't trade it for the world. 2 channel being king for some materials I will admit, but it all depends on how it was recorded and who did the recording. Some music sounds better in multi channel while some is really crappy if played multi channel. Being able to use different play back modes gives me the best of both worlds. So I won't trash 2 channel. It's a personal preference for everyone.

Definitive Technology:Front Height - Mythos Gem XL
Front - Mythos ST-L & ST Towers, Center - Mythos 10 & 8
Side & Back Surround - Gem XL
Ceiling - 4 DI 8R
Sub - Supercube Ref, SVS SB13 Ultra, SVS SB16 Ultra

I have three 2-channel systems. One all tube (amp, preamp, phono and headphone amp) in a dedicated room and the other two are secondary systems with SS integrateds as the backbone (the bedroom system does have a tube headphone amp, though). I have a 5.1 system in the family room which has never been used for music and is relegated primarily for video game play now for the kids.

Nice. What's in your tube system? I run a Jolida integrated and Vincent phono stage.

I personally like the idea of a 2.1 projection based setup, with a big acoustically transparent screen.
In a smaller room with very limited seating.

For me the perfect compromise is a combined stereo and HT with extra power amp in stereo and Yamaha 1900 as pre is nice. SACD and bluray music has something nice.. Rock, and heavyer music with bass and Spotify goes 5.1 music with a lot of details go stereo

My heart and pocket book are with 2-channel. There isn't much in the way of multi-channel audio available yet anyway.

Thanks again. I have Paradigm speakers in my 5.1 system. Though they are not near the level of yours, they do sound great. That Dynavector is a great match with the Scout 1.1, as well.

BTW, my son is moving near you this summer to start his master's program in aerospace engineering at UM.

Where does he want to work? I retired after a long career in The Skunk Works.

His focus right now is on space system design. He's spoken with Orbital ATK a couple of times but hasn't gotten too far in discussions because he was focused on grad school after finishing up at GT this past December. He would be very interested in Lockheed Martin so I'll shoot you a PM so that we don't derail the thread.

Excellent! U of M has one of the best schools in his field as you know. Although my degree is from MSU, Ann Arbor is a great town. The two audio shops; Paragon Sight and Sound and Overture Audio are excellent if he is into hifi. Between them you can find Wilson, McIntosh, Audio Research, Sonus Faber, Vandersteen, Paradigm, GoldenEar and others.

Luckily he has not gotten the audio bug yet (I have been able to convert his younger brother) since, though they are one of the best in that field, they are also one of the most expensive for out of state tuition. Thanks for the recommendations, though. I'll be sure to stop by those shops when I'm in town for a visit.

I don't own a TT. My last table was an English belt drive with an Infinity Black Widow arm and a WinLabs strain gauge cartridge.

7.2 home theater system
two 2-channel stereo setup
one headphone/computer setup

I definitely enjoy movies in my theater room but listening to 2-channel stereo is very enjoyable in the theater room as well. My two F/R speaker Martin Logan in the theater room does wonderful job in that department. However, I spent most of time at the computer setup using my headphone setup since I do not want to disturb other family members. Each system has its own strength and weakness but I definitely will miss movie watching if I loose my theater room.

We are now two channel only. The main music system is in my signature. Another office system is KEF Q300 speakers and a Yamaha amp, soon to be replaced by Dynaudio Excite x14s and a NAD amp (or maybe a Rega Brio).

A Q acoustics soundbar/sub system is in use for movies. We really don't miss the surround system at all, and not having the all the speakers is a real blessing.
