ChromeCast-Audio/Speakers Streaming.

I couldn't find a dedicated forum for Streaming Devices, so I will ask here.

Google Chromecast-Audio
seem gear to Internet Streaming, I'm trying to confirm that it will stream from Local Storage (ie: computer or NAS) without Internet access.

I'm asking for a friend who will be traveling and staying in a country with limited Internet access. So, he would like to Rip all his CDs, and be able to Stream that music within his local computer network.

The Google Chromecast-Audio webpage and the Help page are filled with happy-talk/ad-speak, and are generally very unhelpful in resolving this question.

So, to any one who has experience with Chromecast, could you advice me on this? Can it stream from local storage without Internet access?

Thank you for your help.

Absolutely will play local content. PLEX has cast functionality built in, a number of android apps do as well. BubbleUPNP is another. There's a thread on the CCA here;

Some apps (PLEX for one) don't play gapless though. HiFi-cast android and I've heard BubbleUPNP and Foobar do for PC.....

Plex [client ]needs by default an online authentication every time you fire it up, there are ways to go around it but it needs to be set up that way while the server is still connected to the internet.
