New Anthem STR separates

New STR Pre amp & STR Amp
http://hometheaterhifi.com/features/...ay-1-coverage/

The pre amp seems to have full balanced HT bypass including subwoofers. A little birdy told me the STR Amp is 400 watts into 8 ohm, 600 watts into 4 ohm, 800 watts into 2 ohm.
look towards the bottom of the link.

Incredibly sexy looking pieces especially the amp.

I think Anthems latest success with their Atmos AVRs and pre pro have really allowed them to spend some money on R&D in the stereo space.

A local dealer told me about these a couple of weeks back when I needed to pop in for a long run XLR cable.

He was trying to get me to return my new pre pro and go with the both Anthem pre pro and pre amp.

I wish the DAC could unwrap MQA. My music server gets me most of the way there but does not fully unwrap.

But thanks for the links. I was going to try the NAD Masters DAC to match my server but this may be worth an audition.

Those amps really are sexy! I wonder if the D2 prepro replacement will follow in the new clothes and with more of the pre amp incorporated?

SEXY

Rick

That thing is as beast. I wanted a two channel with room correction. The Lyngdorf was not powerful enough, the anthem was too much!! I opted for the simple 5.1 MRX-520. Really like what ARC has done with bass response in my room.

Congrats!! Enjoy!!

One problem for the STR Preamp I see is if you use the Home Theater Bypass inputs using Balanced ins , you lose Balanced ins for another source input. In my case I have an Anthem AVM 60 processor and an OPPO 205; I'd like to use a set of balanced inputs for the OPPO. The EMOTIVA XSP has a dedicated set of balanced inputs for HTB and another 2 sets of balanced inputs. Also if you use Bass management you go through an ADC-DAC cycle thus only using the STR's DACs.

You Should!! Just to be clear, I bought the STR Pre-Amp and I completely disagree with the Crutchfield review. I own the Node 2 and there is no contest between the two, the Anthem trounces it. I think the author of that review didn't quite understand how to set it up.
The Anthem has Home Theater Bypass(HTBP) ,Bass Management(BM) . If you use the BM you should use the digital inputs and avoid the ADC conversion. I have B&W 805 D3's and a SVS Ultra sub and the BM works great.
The sound: the soundstage is wider and more accurate than my Anthem AVM60 and that is high praise. The imaging is dead solid and all the details are there. The AVM60 is regarded as having one of the best stereo outputs for a home theater processor.
I have the AVM60 running through the STR's balanced HTBP. As far as the loose screw in the review ; I have a NAD Masters M50.2 digital player ($4000.00) and it came with the digital coax outputs were very loose. NAD is the parent company to Bluesound ,it happens to the best of them.

I think you’re going to be pleasantly surprised. I absolutely love mine. I thought that my previous amp was pretty good (NAD C375BEE), but the Anthem just slaughters it. The room correction feature did wonders with integrating my LS50’s and REL subwoofer. I’m also very happy with the built in DAC and phono stages. I’ve only used the mm stage so far, but I’m in the process of upgrading my turntable and cartridge and will be trying out the mc stage soon.

Quick Question with STR Preamp.

Just want to check with people who own this preamp, how they have set up their turn table. Do you turn on Covert Analog on or off? I am not sure doing an extra A to D and then D to A is recommended.

Cheers

I transitioned from CD's to Tidal Hi-Fi streaming around the start of 2016. Zero regrets. I still buy a CD occasionally, but if I do it goes right into the Bluesound Vault 2 and gets ripped & stored for streaming from my library of about 550 CD's.

If I long for looking at the tiny artwork in the jewel case, they're all here. Otherwise, I don't handle them.

No computer, just a tablet in my hand.

I wasn't sure about streaming too. But my dealer talked me into a Bluesound node. The SQ is excellent and you have access to millions of songs. I have a Tidal account and enjoy it every day. Records are still my first choice for listening but streaming is very convenient. Back in November I had major surgery and was laid up for 2 months the streaming was a godsend. Really expands your music library. If your interested in purchasing some music it's easy to demo before purchasing.

I just found out about these STR units today, and am interested in the pre-amp. I like the fact that it is pretty versatile, in that it offers both MM and MC phono inputs, DAC, as well as home theater bypass. I plan to continue to use my AVR for movies and SACD/DVD-Audio via the HT bypass, but use the pre-amp for two channel audio. I like the way that the HT bypass works without the STR even being powered on. Now, an even more versatile unit at $1000 is the much less expensive Parasound Halo P5 pre-amp. Has anyone had experience with both the Halo P5 and this new STR pre-amp?

Review on the Integrated at Stereophile Magazine, seems the Dac integration is top notch. Should relate to the STR Preamp as well.

I have not heard either the integrated or the separates, but word is, the separates are substantially better than the integrated. Not sure is this is true in reality but would be interested to hear from those who have heard both...

I´m using an Anthem MRX-710 for listening to 2-channel audio, will I improve the sound quality if I invest in a STR Pre in my system? I´m listening more to music than watching movies. I have a NAD M22 power amplifier to drive my speakers.

This is my set-up https://www.minhembio.com/deathsquad

That is a very nice system you have. I'm running something similar.
If you have your Anthem set up properly with ARC then I don't think it
Would be a major difference. But, I can't be sure as I don't own a STR Pre.

My opinion.
