Preamp recommendation needed

Currently I have two systems:

1. Monitor Audio Silver 10s, PS Audio M700 power amps (on the way), and a Simaudio Moon 240i integrated amp

2. Philharmonic Audio BMR Philharmonitors, Yamaha A-S801 integrated amp

I'm returning the Yamaha and will move the Moon 240i to system 2. So, I'll need a preamp for system 1. Right now I have my eye on the Parasound Halo P5 or P6. I want to know if there are other preamps I should be looking into. Here are the features I want:
  • At least one each of USB and optical inputs (obviously this means built-in DAC)
  • Phono stage
  • Some sort of subwoofer management because I do plan on getting 1-2 subs in the future
  • Remote control
  • Obviously a few regular analog line inputs
If there is a preamp that also has some sort of room correction, all the better. I'd like to spend around $1,000, and I'm not opposed to buying used.

With those requirements I'd be looking at the parasound p6.

What didn't you like about the Yamaha?

Would you exclude the P5? If so, why?

I didn't have any big issues with the Yamaha, but it doesn't fit well into how I want to set everything up. My biggest complaint, though, is that the loudness can't be controlled by the remote (but the volume can).

Agreed, also no reason to discount the P5 other than it's been replaced in the line.

Unlike the Yamaha's A-S801's variable loudness control (versus a typical fixed setting), the Parasound P5 and P6 preamps do not have any loudness control.

Note that it is possible to use the Yamaha's remote to engage and disengage a pre-selected loudness setting by utilizing the Pure Direct button.

Music room: Cary SLI-80 tube integrated amplifier, McIntosh MA6500 integrated amplifier, Quad 99 preamp, Quad 909 power amp, Acoustic Research AR9 loudspeakers, Yamaha CD-N500 CD player, Teac UD-503 DSD DAC, Phase Linear 8000 II linear-tracking turntable.
Theater room: Panasonic 65S60 plasma television; Yamaha RX-A2020 (preamp section); Adcom GFA-5503 and GFA-5400 amplifiers; Polk LSi25, LSiC, and LSiF/X loudspeaker system; Velodyne FSR-18 servo-subwoofer.

Slightly over $1K but packs top class Dirac Live® digital room correction and all the features on your list except for the phono stage:

Yes, unfortunately it seems I'll have to lose out on the loudness control by switching things around as I have planned.

That is a really good idea, and I'd forgotten about that one (probably because it doesn't have phono). I only listen to records very rarely, though, and not seriously so I could probably add a (relatively) cheap external phono stage.

It's a great stereo processor with independent measurements by audiosciencereview.com to prove it, but be aware that miniDSP doesn't accept any returns. I bought one and kind of regret it, now that I'm getting into surround sound.

They don't accept returns for any reason?!? If so, that's a really big consideration and I'm glad you mentioned it.

I'm leaning towards the P6. Anything else I should look at before pulling the trigger on the P6? (SHD is out of the running because of the return policy, and P5 is still a consideration if I find a good one used.)
