Preamp recommendation under $1500

I am looking for recommendation for preamp under 1500. I can get Rotel RC1590 or Parasound P6 around that price point. Anything else to consider at this price point?
This will be paired with Parasound A21 and Canton A45 speakers. Thanks in advance.

Audio by Van Alstine has five preamps solid state and tube under $1500. Excellent products.

I could not find any specifications on their website. I am quiet leery about audio companies, especially since there are a lot of snake oil companies in audiophile world.

Far from snake oil. He's been around for almost 50 years. He has a active thread on Audio Circle. If you call he will talk to you personally. He has a 5 star reputation. His equipment is built in the USA. Made to order.

There aren't many people around here that would give you a bum steer. And should someone try that you can bet they'd get called on it quickly. Van Alstine markets some awesome stuff. Bring money!

I'd go p6 in that price range. Expansive feature set: bass management, phono, DAC, headphone amp, XLR. What features are you looking for in a preamp?

If you want full featured Pre-Amp then consider these -

Rotel RC-1570 Pre-Amp with DAC - $999 -

https://www.abt.com/product/108688/R...RC1570SIL.html

Newer Rotel RC-1572 Pre-Amp with DAC - $1099 -

http://crowneaudio.com/Rotel-RC-1572...er-_p_391.html

Parasound P6 Pre-Amp, improved DAC, Bass Management - £1495 -

https://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=PAHAP6

It might still be possible to find people closing out the previous Parasound P5 Pre-Amp which still had a good 24b/192k DAC, just not as good as the P6.

Looking for XLR inputs and output, subwoofer control and volume control via remote. I have a standalone DAC so digital features are not important.

The Rotel RC-1572 and the Parasound P6 both have XLR In and XLR out.

The Rotel RC1590 Pre-Amp pushes you over budget at about $1750 -

The Parasound P6 has full Bass Management for both Front and Sub speakers -

So I found a Sony TA-1ES(Class A) integrated amplifier on craigslist for a good price and bought it. This seems to sound much better than Oppo+A21 combo right now. A21 definitely needs a pre-amp. Thinking of going with P6 at this point

I can 2nd this recommendation. I just purchased the PS Audio Stellar Pre Amp and S300 amp and I'm very pleased. This is replacing my Peachtree iNova that I have had for years and loved. This was a 62nd birthday present to myself this year. I just wanted to try something else and very happy I did. Is it better? Hard to say, it is different in a very nice way as I loved my iNova. Sometimes you just need a change in life and this is easy given the price to performance I think this combo offers.

I own much better in my cave system. This setup is for my office sourced from Spotify via my computer. I've only got maybe 10 hours on this and I am pleasantly surprised.

Strongly recommend the PS Audio pre amp. I'm going to swap out some amps I have and see what happens to check out the S300. The headphone amp on this thing is amazing and should be on anyone's list for a headphone only amp.

Life's a beach and then you die....

Find a place that let you borrow it home to try and listen to it for a day. Some hifi store let you do that. All talks are cheap, listen to it.

Own designed power amp, own designed preamp, JM LAB Spectral 913.1 speakers, Rythmik F12SE sub.
Not hooked up: Nakamichi Stasis PA-7 power amp, Velodyne VA1210 sub, Kef Reference Series center, Kef Bookshelf speaker, Monitor Audio bookshelf speaker, Infinity rear speakers. Acurus 3X200W amp.

At that price point, I'd hold out for something like a Cary spl-98 or buy a new decware csp3... both will contribute greatly to your system.

Anyone try or have experience with the Emotiva XSP-1 Differential Reference Preamp? I came across this browsing my audiophile sites and it looks like it has a ton of features for the price. I kinda like that it doesn't have a DAC as I'm already using my Oppo 205 for that purpose.

Which power amp are you using? I use Oppo Sonica DAC as network streamer/DAC.

I find that a tube preamp adds a nice ooomph to a system. You should try and listen to one if you can.

I just purchased this preamp and love it. It has all the features you listed that you wanted. The remote is very robust and made completely out of aluminum. All functions can be controlled from the remote. I'm using mine with an Onkyo M-5000R power amp and an external Oppo DAC.

I have a older Parasound stereo power amp. Currently my Oppo 205 is serving preamp duty but I would like something with a physical volume knob and a remote control. Don't necessarily need a DAC in the preamp.

On the shortlist are: Parasound P6, emotiva XSP-1, Schiit Saga (much cheaper), new classic Parasound 200 pre.

I had the Schiit Saga. I found it to be very neutral. Rolling the tube also allowed a bit of tone tuning.

Why did you get rid of it? I'm holding out for a black-cased one to match the rest of my gear but I haven't seen one on the website in months.

I had a Schiit Saga from new. I liked it. A Jolida Fusion tube preamp was offered to me for a really low price. I bought it and did side by sides for a couple of weeks.

Soon as I put in the Jolida, it had a different air to it. It sounded bigger and the mids were much sweeter. It further improved when I replaced some janky Baldwin tubes with Telefunkens.

That did it for me, I sold the Schiit. Mind you, I never would have replaced it if the Jolida didnt land on my lap. Its a 1500 dollar preamp I got for a song.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Check out the wiring, the caps, the potentiometers are all ALPs, and the power supply and the rear RCA's are all shielded.

Below is an internet stock pic. Mine is diffferent, I dont have a phono stage built-in and my PS is shielded.

Still on the lookout for an ARC preamp if one ever becomes available in the used market, when I have spare cash on hand.

@bing! I'm sure every stepup in price and build quality will bring subtle and maybe even vast improvements to someone's 2-channel setup. I just have to draw the line somewhere. I don't think I could justify spending more than about $3,000 total on a preamp. My wife would probably allow me to sell my motorcycle to fund a high-end audiophile component purchase. LOL!

Not all upgrades come out to be It's actually important to take into account what other components are involved. Incremental upgrades may get bottle necked at the weakest points. Just today, I tried an amp I had given up on with upgraded speaker cables. I was surprised to find out that my old cables were holding it back.

I got my preamp for price I could not say no. I buy and sell used equipment on Craigslist just to listen to them. This one was a keeper.

The guy that bought my Saga off CL got 100 bucks off new. I try to pass things forward when I can.

I have a P6 on pre-order I should be getting it in a week or two. If you can wait that long I can provide feedback on how it sounds paired with Oppo and Parasound A21.
