2 Channel powered Speakers

Looking for suggestions on powered book shelve speakers for 2 channel. Don't want to spend over $500 CAD, and have to be reasonable small as they are going above a fire place in a family room on either end of the TV.

Other option would be running wireless speakers from an SC67 located in the basement (although I would assume that would be more than $500!)

thanks!!!

The focus is all messed up with that picture of the audioengines.

Disclaimer - I have not tried them myself, but Emotiva Airmotivs can be had for <$500 on the used market and I have heard tell they are pretty decent in terms of sound reproduction. Best bet to find them at a decent price would be on the Emotiva Emporium or AVSForum Classifieds site. I do not believe they manufacture them any longer (powered versions, anyway), so they'd likely have to be picked up used or old-stock.

Best of luck!

I read the edifier s2000pro was pretty good for $400usd

You may want to look up some reviews on that one.
Adam audio has some out there also.

Normally I'd recommend the audioengine a5 speakers but given you want them on the mantle they will be very close to the wall which isn't ideal for a rear ported speaker. The A2 and HD3s are front ported, but may not fill up the room with 2.75 in woofers. The Edifier S2000 pro is also rear ported but offers bass and treble controls to tame bass bloat from near the wall.

There are a few edifier front ported models that are cheaper. Here's one with a 4 in woofer and a front port.

One note about the edifier models is that they have cabinets like the Swan monitors, a deep base for the cabinet and may not fit on the mantle without hanging over. Be careful of dimensions.

I'd almost be tempted to try the Audioengine A2+ or HD3 and see if that can fill in the sound you want.

Supercharged Song Towers, Oppo BDP-203, Anthem MRX-520, LG B6 OLED
Headphone Rig: Oppo BDP-95, Burson Audio Soloist MKII Headphone amp/ Sennheiser HD800S, Sennheiser HD650

I have the transparent zero in my office and they sound great. These are a little higher than what you want to spend. https://www.amazon.com/Vanatoo-Trans...s%2C154&sr=8-3

Since you're up North keep an eye out for Kanto speakers on sale, they're a Canadian company and frequently have good deals.

I will continue to endorse the KEF Eggs. Have them in a 2.1 setup in my office and use them daily. Still happy with them over past 2 years. Just another option to research for you.

I ended up going this route but the S3000pro instead due to room size. I'll let you know my impressions once setup. Coming from KEF is believe this is going to be a totally different sound.

Remember "Wireless speakers" aren't really wireless, because they have to be plugged in somewhere. If you're putting them on your mantle, do you have receptacles there?

Yes, they are going into a built in around a fire place that has deep and large spaced shelving. Power outlets on the bottom shelf (approx. 36" off the floor)

So these Edifiers are amazing sounding speakers for the money!!! I was really impressed. In my opinion they even beat the KEF LS50. With the DSP control sound they make every recording sound amazing and really big sound stage with lots of dynamics.

The Edifiers look amazing, but it looks like (correct me if I'm wrong) they don't have a sub output if you want to add a sub later

They don't have a sub out. Unless you can use RCA out somehow or something like that...

I have them in an open living room that is approx. 18'x16' with the back being open to the kitchen and one of the sides open to a front entry way with 20'+ high ceilings and I don't think you need a sub at all, fills the room nicely.

get a sub with a high pass and connect to the sub first in the speaker chain...

by the way, i just heard some Edifiers
Edifier R1850DB Active Bookshelf Speakers with Bluetooth and Optical Input - 2.0 Studio Monitor Speaker - Built-in Amplifier with Subwoofer Line Out

these were placed up high in laft space and most of the night I heard the reflected music seated opposite reflecting wall below... very nice
and it got better when seated in front of the speakers, still below the horizontal plane... the speakers were installed on a "plant ledge" in the loft space abot 3 metres high... no sub-woofer... i was impressed

I actually prefer connecting the subs via speaker-level inputs for 2-channel systems, but I don't think it's possible to do that with powered monitors because the amps are internal to the speakers.

The Edifiers look great based upon everything I've seen, just surprised I don't see a way to support a sub (unless I'm still missing something, which is quite possible ).

i should have been a bit clearer. i use the AirPulse A200 monitors... I was referring to line level outputs/subwoofer/monitors
if you have to send the subwoofer juice that is another issue...
i'm no help there mate

You might check out the Peachtree Audio M24 or M25. They include a sub out.
