Looking for mid to high end turntable - $500 to $1500 to match with Philharmonic BMRs

Looking to dive into vinyl and turn my 12'x14' office into a listening room. This will be in a 2.0 setup using a pair of Philharmonic BMRs and Denon AVR-X1000. Started off the search looking at Fluance and now looking at a few Rega turntables. Really looking for something that is on par with the BMR speakers. Also open to other options besides the 3 listed and probably leaning towards the Rega Planar 3 right now.

Options:
Fluance RT85 - $499
Rega Planar 2 w/ Carbon MM cartridge - $675
Rega Planar 3 w/ Elys cartridge - $1145

Will also need a pre-amp and so far have seen the Schiit Mani and Pro-Ject Phono Box DC but haven't done too much research. Again, I don't want this to be the weak link in the system and can spend more if it will make a difference.

The Rega 3 would be an excellent choice. It is the best of your choices. Buy the best and you won't have any regrets. For a phono I'd look at the Cambridge Audio Duo. Does both MM/MC if that's important to you. An added feature on the Cambridge is it's also a headphone amp. If your strictly a MM cart person also consider the Rega MM MK3. Excellent phono.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but $500 to $1500 is Low to Mid, not Mid to High. High end turntables run in the 5 to 6 digits.

Of those listed, and assuming you can afford it, it is hard to consider anything other than the REGA 3. If you have to buy unseen and unheard, that is about the surest best imaginable.

One in the upper range that I might consider would be the

Music Hall MMF-5.3 - Black with 2M Blue Cartridge - $1000

https://musichallaudio.com/product/mmf-5-3-turntable/

Though my preferred, because I like wood -

Music Hall MMF-5.3se - Rosewood with 2M Bronze Cartridge - $1400

Keep in mind the cartridge upgrade is a considerable portion of the price increase -

https://musichallaudio.com/product/mmf-5-3se-turntable/

PROJECT also makes some similarly priced turntables -

https://www.musicdirect.com/top-rate...sic-eucalyptus

https://www.musicdirect.com/turntabl...iRes-Turntable

https://www.musicdirect.com/turntabl...t-X1-Turntable

While the Music Hall appeal to me personally, the safest surest bet is the REGA 3. If you are trying to save a bit more money, the there is nothing wrong with the REGA 2.

Though Music Hall does have a pretty wide range of turntable -

https://musichallaudio.com/turntables/

On the lower end, this appeals to me, partly because it has Auto-Lift of the tonearm at the end of the record; from what I understand, that is just Auto-Lift, not Auto-Return, and I prefer the S-Shaped Tonearms -

Denon DP-400F - $500 -

https://www.musicdirect.com/turntabl...atic-turntable

https://usa.denon.com/us/product/hifi/turntables/dp400

https://usa.denon.com/us/product/hif...ables/dp450usb

Though I don't especially like the dust cover.

If you want to stay more in the $500 to $750 range, then PROJECT has some nice options -

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_252DCE....html?tp=75887

https://www.crutchfield.com/g_10500/...Brand|Pro-Ject

But back to the main point, if you have to mail-order and can not see them in person, the the REGA-3 and REGA-2 are pretty safe bets.

Just one man's opinion.

For a fairly different option, take a look at the recent Technics 1200 re-release as well.

Stanton ST.150 M2 Direct-Drive Turntable - S-Tonearm - $600 -

There are all DJ-style turntables, and while they have DJ features the OP will probably not need, they are all still very good turntable, very rugged with Direct Drive Motors, though they don't always come with a Cartridge.

Possibly out of your upper price range when you add in a pre-amp, but take a look at the Marantz TT15. I think it's one of the biggest values in TT's. It's made by German hi-fi company Clearaudio for Marantz. Very similar to their Emotion turntable. It uses Clearaudio's Satisfy tonearm which sells by itself for around $1700 and includes the Clearaudio Virtuoso Wood cartridge, valued around $700. It's a heck of a lot of TT for ~$1500. I recently upgraded from a Project Debut Carbon Esprit to the Marantz and could not be happier.

Give it about 50 hours for the cart to totally break in. Excellent no fuss set up. Buy lots of records. Don't forget record cleaning supplies.

After reading this thread the other day, I went to needledoctor(only about 15 minutes from my work) and checked out some new turntables. I ordered the Planar 2, but now have decided I want to go with the Planar 3 to eliminate the what if's and spending more money later on upgrading. Im gonna exchange the 2 when I get it.

I see the OP went with the Elys 2 cart. Has anyone heard a Audio Technica cartridge on a Planar 3? Was looking at the one below. Im torn between going with the all Rega set up, or trying a different cart.

Subwoofers: Dual Rythmik FV18
Speakers: L/R Ascend Acoustics Sierra 2 - Center - Horizon w/RAAL Surrounds: Sonance VP62R SST/SUR. Vinyl:Rega Planar 3

I cant claim comparative experience, but the Rega 2 I picked up used a while back had a Dynavector MC cart on it. The original owner thought is was a huge improvement over the Ortofon Red it came pre loaded with, FWIW.

I think the combination sounds fantastic. I'm pretty sure the Planar 3 would do just as well or better with a MC cart.

I’m sure that’s an awesome cart, but way over my budget unfortunately.

Depends on your speakers. The AT can be quite revealing at the top end. I'd look at the Nagaoka Mp-110 a much more rounded musical cart. In the same price range.

It will be running through the gear in my signature. I’ve read a lot of good stuff about that mp 110 cart.

The more I think about it I might as well go with the Rega setup with the Elys 2 cartridge. As was mentioned, great no fuss setup out of the box.

Gonna go with the gloss white.
