DH Labs cables - your opinion and vs. some other brands

Hello folks,

while looking to get myself some Canare speaker cables I bumped into DH Labs cables. As I never heard of them nor use them I like to find out how they are compare to Canare cables and some other available brands.

I have compiled a list (attached) with available cables to me, either locally or shipped.

I like to hear your opinions about those and vs. other available brands, real world experiences... I am not looking into pro tests or similar.

I have used those brands in the past and was satisfied with: Mogami, Kimber, Van den Hull, and generic ones.
I did hear the difference between Mogami and Kimber and preferred Kimber in one system. Also, when I swapped the cables to other system I did not hear drastic difference. Drawing conclusion from those experiences I know and not expecting that your experience will match with mine but there is in general some opinion on quality of cables used.

Looking to get 2-3 meters, set of cables.

if you allow your mind to focus on speakers and equipment, the cables wont get in your way

btw I use audioquest and xlo in one system...

I think the consensus is whatever looks best right?

Makes sense for both people on both sides of the table.

Leave it at 8 ohms and call it a day :)

Since there was overwhelming response here, I took the plunge and just got 20 feet of DH Labs T-14 cable (linked)... Have to order banana plugs now and then I will judge if money was wise spend.

Thank you! - to ones that responded here.

Hope it works out to meet your expectations for the expense.

I hope that but since that company does not advertise too much and that they explaining what the cable is made from and provide capacitance number I decide to give them a chance. The guy I got it from even mentions that he will put this cable against any loudspeaker cable up to 5x or 10x the price. He specifically mentioned Audioquest which costs 10x more... Since he is a salesman/company owner and I asked for a different cable which is more expensive and was ready to get even the expensive one, he said that I should get this one which is 3x cheaper and also he put down the price to 6$ a foot. Who knows...

back in the 80's and 90's cables were hot...everyone touting cables...since then most have seen evidence they dont really matter much. I have so many different brands of cables its sad. I even just bought some neotech cable for my headphones....like 50/ft....anyways, dont lose sleep over cables. cheap ones sound good too.

I would go with Kimber Kables with multi-strands cables. The biggest issue is whether your amp can be stable using those as the capacitance is very high. Not all amps can be stable with those multi-strands type cables. Some amps can be at the verge of oscillation and start to sound funny with those Kimber Kables. My Nakamichi PA-7 is one of those.

Own designed power amp, own designed preamp, JM LAB Spectral 913.1 speakers, Rythmik F12SE sub.
Not hooked up: Nakamichi Stasis PA-7 power amp, Velodyne VA1210 sub, Kef Reference Series center, Kef Bookshelf speaker, Monitor Audio bookshelf speaker, Infinity rear speakers. Acurus 3X200W amp.

I know, but I hear the difference in bass, treble and soundstage. I am using cheap cables but even cheap speaker cable from Home Depot is 3$ per foot or even more. I do understand that there will be not much difference but since I need new set of cables (moved one set of speakers and took the cables with to another house) I just thought that I should get some better cables like Blue Jeans Canare which are similar priced.

Too late... I got the DH Labs Silver Sonic T-14. What do you think about those, link here: https://silversonic.com/products/bul...speaker-cable/

I'm sure that cable will work just fine! Let us know what you think of it once you've got it installed. I do think it is pricey, but at the same time, not totally beyond reason. I paid a bit over $3.00/ft for my Mogami bulk (that I really like), and folks will think that is crazy too. But yeah, I'd put it up against anything as well.

They have this one by meter (same price as online): https://www.homedepot.ca/product/sou...50m/1000823346

This one is sold by foot and it is 2x and few cents more by foot. If you like to get the online price you have to buy whole spool: https://www.homedepot.ca/product/ele...uge/1000839310

All other cables they have is "spool only", speak 50/100/250/500 feet...

I asked they guy there for a speaker cable, by foot.

I narrowed my choice anyway to Mogami, Canare and DH Labs... I just placed a order for banana plugs. It is depending on delivery time and from that point forward I will need 2-3 weeks to get some conclusive results.

Kimber was nice but too expensive, though I have somewhere some Kimber speaker cables packed... just cannot find them.

Just an update:

DH Labs T-14 cable is connected to Yamaha WXA-50 and Totem Mite speakers - after running for some time without me being in the room on different system (daily for 12hrs, for one week), I connected the cable to Yamaha and Totem speakers. The result is that Totem Mites finally opened up in high frequencies compared to other cables I have around. Also midrange is also slightly different. This is my observation and can be perceived differently by someone else...

Canare 4S11 cables are connected to Rotel RB-1562 and PSB GB1 speakers - After break-in period of one week as well, they were connected between intended audio components and the sound is finally what I like. The highs are very clear and lows are very well controlled and deep. I never thought that PSB GB1 were capable of such performance. At some point I have to get up and check if the subwoofer was on or off (I have also another power amp connected to same pre-amp but pre-amp output 2 goes to subwoofer straight and from sub to power amp, as sub is capable of High-Pass filtering, therefore if I have sub on it will also work with other power amp) as the PSB's delivered such bass performance as I never heard before, deep and controlled. Also the connection is bi-wired between speakers and amp.

I have to experiment more with T-14 and check how it is performing on other components I have, specifically between RB-1050 and Wharfedale D220's, but Canare 4S11 stays for sure where it is now. I think also that I will get some more bulk Canare 4S11 for my other set-up's as this is my new favorite loudspeaker cable.

I am planing to set another 2 channel audio setup at the house (all above is at the condo) and for this I will use Canare 4S11 for sure.
For those interested this probably will be my choice of components:
Yamaha WXC-50 as all-in-one solution for my streaming needs and as pre-amp. Since I have already some Yamaha components I like to use same app, MusicCast, otherwise probably I will go with NAD.
Emotiva PA-1 or Emotiva XPA HC-1 monoblocks - The amp is depending on the speaker choice and budget but I shortlisted to those ones.
Speakers: Wharfedale Denton 80th Anniversary or something from PSB Imagine line of tower speakers. I am also looking into Totem Sky (used). Sub will be added later if I go with bookshelf speakers.

The Home Depot cables you linked to are CL2 rated... for in wall installation. Insulation has to be very specific to meet building codes. No need to pay that for wire laying on the floor (if you're ok with those dirty floor electrons jumping into your cables of course).
