Mac MC 901 Dual Mono tube / SS amp

Although I've never been a Mac fan, this is an interesting bit of kit

For one.
Although it is interesting.
Compromise for Tube lovers and SS advocates.

Wonder what would happen if you use the SS side for tweets/mids and tube side for woofs?

If I were to get back into big buck amps (I'm not) I'd probably go this direction for an integrated.

It's only $100,000 more so WTH

Oh good, it doubles as a guitar amp.

Or $52,373.45 a pair in USD, which is slightly more than $17,500 each and we are talking a stereo pair, not three.

I don't know where you got your conversion table, but sumthin is a little out of whack.

Thumbs up

If you want high-power tubes Bob Carvers 350 Mono Blocks are $9500 w/a 15 year warranty. Just add a couple of high quality subs. Expensive but a lot less than the Mac's.

^^ Don't be silly. There's no name cache to impress your friends like there is with Mac.

Solution is simple, go buy a pair and let us know how much you paid.

Yeah.

Kind of ironic that you actually pay to advertise in your own home after eating up the children's college tuition.
(Like someone will confuse all the blue lights from the McIntosh gear with a K-Mart special.)

McIntosh is an American company that makes its products in the US so it makes sense it would cost less in America than it does to ship overseas.

Sharp LC-80LE844U | Marantz BD8002 | Marantz AV8003 | Marsh Sound Design A400s (FL/FR) | Marantz MM7055 (C/SL/SR) | Phase Tech PC 9.1 (FL/FR) | Phase Tech PC 3.1 (C/SL/SR) | Dual PSA S1811 Subs

Too expensive for me and I’m not a big fan of McIntosh but it does seem like an interesting product.

The Carver amps are great at the price. There are two potential issues. One is availability, the other is long term reliability. One thing we know is McIntosh products are brick doghouses. Not that Bob’s products are not reliable but Carver is a tiny shop in comparison.

Last, if you look at other high end companies making high power tube amps, the Macs are not that expensive. Given, this is a rarified niche market.

Jolida Fusion Preamp, Jolida JD1000P Amp, VPI Scout turntable with Dynavector 10X5 cartridge, Paradigm Studio 100 v.5 speakers, Sonica DAC streaming lossless files. Furman Elite 15 Power Conditioner.
