Zorloo Ztella portable ESS Sabre DAC
I have just received and started testing the new Zorloo Ztella portable DAC. It looks just like a usb-c to headphone dongle and that is what it mostly is. It does have a quality ESS Sabre DAC in it though. It is capable of PCM 384khz and DSD 5.6Mhz. It comes in 2 versions, one that does the final MQA fold and one that doesn't. I have the one that doesn't. I have now tried it on windows, iOS and Android. All work well with the appropriate player software. It also works on Mac OS, but I have not tried it on that yet.
There is a single LED on the device. Blue for PCM up to 48khz, Red for DSD and PCM > 48khz and Magenta for MQA. I tested with Onkyo Player with hi-res add-on for iOS, USB Audio Player Pro for Android and Foobar2000 for Windows. Windows recognizes it as a USB Audio 2 device and installs the appropriate driver without user intervention.
I compared the output to the built-in Sabre DAC on my LG V30 mobile phone. I prefer the sound signature and configuration flexibility of the LG Quad DAC more, but this device is no slouch and it is usable on virtually any hardware. It comes with a USB-C to USB-A adapter and an optional (extra price) USB-C to Lightning adapter. A good value.
