KEF LS50 vs LS50W

I've been internet shopping forever and googling like crazy.

My thriftiness found non-wireless LS50's for $449, the 10" KEF sub for $349 (or 8" for $219!), so I'm thinking I could I throw an amp at this combo and be in it for less then a pair of wireless active LS50's ? And still sound great?!

I'm using the passive LS50's with a KEF Kube 10b, and love the pairing in my 10' x 12' office. The sub you're looking at is probably not a Kube 10b, but a likely a Q400b or similar older one.

Trust me, they're not anywhere near as good as a 10b because that one has the newer technology in the electronics and amp. The "iBX" (Intelligent Bass Extension) and 3-position DSP switch are incredibly efficient in getting a 10" driver to act very nearly as deep as my SVS SB2000 but do it in a much more pleasing way. It's worth looking for a paying to get one because you are getting the LS50's cheaper than any price I've ever seen.

KEF R500, R200C, R100, R50, SVS SB2000 sub, NAD T758v3 AVR, LG UP875 4K BlueRay, Samsung UN55JU6500F 4K LED TV, KEF M500 headphones, Sony CDP-CE500 CD changer. Office: NAD M10, KEF LS50, KEF Kube 10b, Pro-Ject RPM1 TT w/ Ortofon 2M Red. Guest room: Hafler 300 L-R, KEF Reference Model 100 center, KEF iQ10 surrounds, modded M&K V-90 sub, Bluesound Vault 2.

Thank you
The Kube10b is $479

These are all Kef refurbs so NOT new, hence the price.

Two passive LS50 $449
Kube 10 $479 or 12 $579
Would a NAD C338 do it ok? $450

All in $1400 bucks for two passive LS50's, Sub, Amp. BUT since I can get LS50W (which apparently on the internet sound SO much better) for $1500 (also KEF refurb) Should I just skip the amp and sub and go for the wireless ones and add a sub later one day?

I have zero equipment currently, this is my first go at a listening room.

OH.
$750 a pair for the LS50, $449 each for singles. That's not the killer deal I thought it was.

Well then that makes the decision a lot closer... towards the wireless, I think.

I have the passive LS50's and certainly have auditioned the LS50 Wireless. The Wireless do dig a little deeper and because of the bespoke internal amps can sound better unless the passive have pretty good amplification and a DSP working.

My only issue with the Wireless is life of the amps and reliability. When the amps fail, you have no speaker until it's fixed. With the passive, if your amp fails you still have working speakers and can swap it out with an old AVR or something until the amp is fixed. Many owners of the wireless have had flawless performance for several years now, probably the overwhelming majority. KEF probably has numbers of the quantity of units in the field and related tech support calls but they'll never reveal it.

Myself, I am on my 3rd amp. Not because even one failed though, rather because I found bargains on better & better solutions and just kept upgrading. I didn't lose a dime on doing it, other than giving the 2nd one (a Bluesound Powernode 2) to my son. With the current NAD Masters M10 and its Dirac Live, plus a Kube 10b sub, I dare say it's very much as good or better than LS50 Wireless. Having the streaming effectively built right into the integrated amp with a slick interface, and my turntable hooked up to it is better for me than having the limited inputs of the Wireless.

Good luck to you whichever way you go The LS50 in either form is an incredibly good speaker at the price they are right now!

Update!
I just got back from my local bricks and mortar just now.
After a couple weeks of reading about all of this, real life is throwing me for a loop.
Keep in mind I'm new to this stuff. Very new.

Bookshelf:
Uni-Q 5.25 - meh
Uni-Q 6.5 - meh
LS50 - ok more clear

LS50W good more bass

Tower:
Uni-Q 6.5 better
Uni-Q 8" best
Polk S60 great for some music, not so great for others, KEF sounds more 'real' polk more bassy but not always in a good way

Then I listened to the LS50 (non wireless) and Kube10b it was OK but the sub was overpowering, I'm sure they had the settings off. But but but... I think I really like towers.

HOWEVER

This is listening is in a huge store. My room is 10x11

They said they'd do a deal on brand new LS50W for $1,900 CAD which is $1452 US ... but I walked away. I can get that price until Jan 2 but now don't know if towers will bounce sound around my small room, In the store, there was no comparison, towers all the way.

Perplexed.

Well, WHICH "towers" were you listening to? Those with 8" driver would have to be Q950's or older R900's. Those with 6-1/2" drivers could be Q700, Q750, R700, or R7. The range of prices on all those is all over the map.

If you liked the LS50's with the Kube 10b but the bass was too much, they simply had it turned up too much and that's the easiest thing to fix...with the gain knob.

Hi Ken
The lower end, Q750 and Q950
Both on sale too $998 and $1498 canuck bucks but I'd need an amp. No idea how they's sound in a small room, more internet research is telling me I'm crazy. LOL.

Well after being underwhelmed I started internet researching more.
I found a music store (vs. stereo store) and will go listen to a bunch of monitors:

Adam
Focal
Neumann
Dynaudio
Mackie
etc.

I'm also going to try some high-end closed earphones... since it's going to be me in my man-cave usually alone.
