NAD Masters M33 integrated amp announced at CES 2020

Gory details on NAD's press release, the highlights to me are 200WPC from new Purifi amps, HDMI ARC, Dirac Live and it even comes with a remote control!

Quote:
CES 2020, Las Vegas, NV January 6, 2020 — NAD Electronics, the highly regarded manufacturer of high-performance audio/video components, unveils another new and unique Masters Series product here. The M33, a BluOS™ enabled DAC/amplifier that can serve as the heart of a reference whole-home system. In its simplest form, the M33 (US$4999/€4999/£3999 MSRP) is an ultra-high-performance streaming amplifier with superb audiophile sound. Or it can be combined with other players in a BluOS ecosystem of wirelessly networked music players throughout the home for an outstanding whole-home audio system. The M33 will be available in March 2020.

As soon as I saw the press release yesterday, I called my local dealer and he indicated he ordered a demo for the store. I’m so excited to listen and read reviews.

I like it, I'm always glad to see 2-channel gear with hdmi and room correction. One thing that bugs me is no USB in. I can stream to my gear using SMB or the like, but I prefer the simple files on a 256 gb thumb drive method.

I believe there's a USB port beneath the LAN port, it doesn't mention local playback in the press release but the M10 can do it (page 7 of the manual) and has the same layout so I'd imagine this would as well.

Yea, I see it now. Kind of a bad place to put it in the rear of unit. But at least they have it.

I'd love to audition one of these in my rig. Such a hassle though...

I would just take advantage of the M33's inherent capabilities with BluOS for streaming via Ethernet. On my network, for instance, is my Bluesound Vault 2 (on another system in an upstairs bedroom) that holds my own digital library. Being able to stream directly from myriad services is what gets most of my music playing time.

Why not a simple USB-to-HDMI adapter if it's that important to you? Is it too hard to find one in "audiophile quality"?

On the back of the M33 to the left of the pre-out is an input that says "SE In". Anybody know what this is for?

Could it be similar to a HT By pass which could be used with say a tube pre amp?

Answering my own question, I contacted NAD yesterday and they said the SE In was probably a take on HT By pass. Means I can run a tube pre amp with it> Yay!.

Any reason to believe that the HDMI modules would *not* work in this?

No, the M32 was able to have a HDMI module. I'd doubt they'd drop that here.

Makes sense. I wonder if an HDMI 2.1 board will follow soon.

That I have doubts about. It took a long time for NAD to upgrade to a 4k board. If they do, it won't be soon.

That's frustrating to hear. I recall from my days in Theta Digital land that modules/tech always seem to be a generation behind, or half that best case. In an ideal world the updates would happen sooner rather than later. I understand it's not a crisis by any means, but a bummer.

Full specs along with the official .pdf datasheet appeared on a Finnish retailer's website:https://ah-hifisystems.fi/fi/product...-vahvistin/M33
The datasheet is under "Tiedostot" (Files).

I'll let you know how it sounds, I just ordered one from my dealer. If it comes close to the M22 V2, I'll be stoked.

I believe it will, assuming it benefits from the "PuriFi" amp technology.

Looks like even a phono stage is built-in. Pretty impressive everything you get for a reasonable amount of money for a high quality product. Just missing Roon readiness but I guess that would be a conflict with their own platform.

The M50.2 streamer & M12 preamp are BluOS enabled and is also Roon Ready; I believe this will be too.

Agree. Both my 758 and M10 were Roon ready. Can't imagine the M33 would be otherwise. I currently have a Purifi based amp/streamer and have been very impressed.

I also have mine ordered, although in Finland. Did you get a delivery estimate?
It's strange that NAD still has not added the M33 to their website.

Just ordered it yesterday, so not yet. I'm surprised as well that it's not on their web site. Like you probably are, I'm looking for the owners manual to get a leg up on it.

My dealer said it was delayed because of the epidemic but promised it should arrive during April.

That's awesome. Really has everything I would ever need. This will be on my short list if I ever decide to really simplify my setup.

You should add "eventually" to that statement. It took about 6 months after launch for the M10 to get certified and operate correctly with firmware 3.8.8 according to Roonlabs forum for BluOS & NAD.
