Audible RF interference using Apple Airplay

I've attached an .mp3 recoding of the problem.

I'm experiencing audible RF interference when streaming with Apple Airplay through an Airport Express. The problem persists whether I use digital (toslink) line out or analog (3.5mm to RCA), which leads me to believe it's definitely RF interference. What can I do about this?

Doesn't sound like RF interference. Sounds like a "test tone" of some sort.

It is a 1khz test tone. You can hear the RF interference as static / pops / clicks.

It's an issue inherent in Apple's devices. The Apple APE's transmit some kind of "machine noise" along with the audio signal. I have no idea how to trace it, nor get rid of it. The more revealing your system, the more annoying the noises get.

I have stopped using them and switched entirely to Bluesound devices.

Funny that Apple hasn't had enough complaints to acknowledge, address and resolve this inherent issue.

I use AirPlay daily on multiple different devices including some decent headphones and have never heard such a thing.

They have discontinued the product in favor of the AppleTV. AppleTV doesn't seem to have this issue.

In my experience the issue is not with AirPlay, but specifically the APE devices. I don't have the issue with AirPlay receivers I have used.

I have 2 Airport Express (latest) models and Airplay to my stereo systems from iPad all the time. Never experienced anything like this or any artifact interference if any kind.

You probably need a more revealing audio system.

AE through optical is lossless. As revealing as it gets.
