In Chicago, the absolute best dealer, though certainly not the only one, is MUSIC DIRECT. They have a great selections and a wide cross-section of equipment -

https://www.musicdirect.com/

They are bit up on the west side of the lake. Not that far and not that hard to find.

Auditioning at home is even better. See if you can get them (or some other dealer) to loan you an amp to listen at home. Once you buy something, you won't be listening in a dealer showroom.

I am not sure how limited to "Chicago" you are but University Audio in Madison WI is top notch. They have a great selection of gear on the floor available to demo. Ben, the owner, and Steve, office manager, are both first rate. I have been shopping there since 2007

I'm sure there are dozens of Audio Dealers in the Chicago Area, but if we are going to expand the geographic area outside of Chicago, here is a dealer in Grand Rapids Mich -

Hard to beat Music Direct though --

Budget is a consideration in recommending a bricks and mortar dealer too. Saturday Audio Exchange has a decent selection of new and used at reasonable prices. If you're looking more high end, Toska up in Highland Park is good, as is Quintessence in Morton Grove. But be prepared to drop some serious coin in either of those two places. Otherwise, Music Direct is a good option.

Audio Adviser does not have a brick and mortar showroom. At least they didn't last time I drove by. They are strictly an online or mail order dealer. Not sure about Music Direct. My dealings with them have been online.

Jolida Fusion Preamp, Jolida JD1000P Amp, VPI Scout turntable with Dynavector 10X5 cartridge, Paradigm Studio 100 v.5 speakers, Sonica DAC streaming lossless files. Furman Elite 15 Power Conditioner.

Wasn't aware of that, thanks for the Info. I do think Music Direct has a Showroom though.

I spoke with a salesman at Music Direct a minute ago. Prior to Covid-19 they had a limited number of products that could be auditioned by appointment only. Unfortunately, due to the virus, the in-store demos have been indefinitely suspended.

Music room: Cary SLI-80 tube integrated amplifier, McIntosh MA6500 integrated amplifier, Quad 99 preamp, Quad 909 power amp, Acoustic Research AR9 loudspeakers, Yamaha CD-N500 CD player, Teac UD-503 DSD DAC, Phase Linear 8000 II linear-tracking turntable.
Theater room: Panasonic 65S60 plasma television; Yamaha RX-A2020 (preamp section); Adcom GFA-5503 and GFA-5400 amplifiers; Polk LSi25, LSiC, and LSiF/X loudspeaker system; Velodyne FSR-18 servo-subwoofer.
