Pioneer cld-1030

It plays CDs fine, but just spins up and just makes clicking sound on laserdiscs. I have the service manual. And am electronically inclined.

The only thing I can conclude is a servo motor alignment.

Does anybody have a better idea?. Maybe just a cap or something?

It seems like it could be salvaged if it's reading compact discs.

When playing a CD the video section is shut down and the unit tracks and follow the CD just using the digital audio signal. In the schematic you’ll see where the RF signal from the laser splits and runs one signal to the digital audio and the other for video and analog audio.

When playing a laserdisc the units tracks the disc using the video signal to keep proper alignments for crosstalk. You need to follow the RF video path to determine if you have a bad capacitor or another parts that is grounding out or reducing the signal which cause the disc to not play as your seeing.

Thank you for reply, I wish I wasnt so broke I'm seeing some deals on Craigslist. For some nicer players.

Anyways..some more things I noticed. When the laserdisc spins and there is a click..it doesn't seem to be spinning fast enough..defianetaly not fulspeed. Do you think maybe it's stuck in like cd mode. Do CDs spin slower? Because it doesn't detect a ld, maybe.

I going to tackle it tomorrow. Caps are no problem. I have like 1000 caps i found in a thrift store. All kinds. I always have the right cap.

I'll look for more info to post.

If you could look in from the side you would see the laser focus lens jumping up and down and tapping the underside of the LD trying to focus on a reflection. That is most likely the click you are hearing.

It's too loud to be the lens. It's more like a plastic gear shipped sound. It does spin fast. But it takes 30 seconds to slow down. To open. I pretty sure it's not the lens making that noise. Here is a link to a video of the issue.

Ya the tilt gears just keeping spinning round and round. So the tilt base most have came out of place or broke..I have a video of that...
Now I just have take it apart to get the base...then hope I don't screw something else up....

So in this picture my guess is part 101 came out of part 9. The teeth on the gears seem good. I guess it has to get into position and then turn off the tilt motor..by a sensor.. switch.

I been turn the gear by hand I think , gear 10 is stripped. It jumps making that sound, after it encounters to much friction.

Actually maybe the motor not turning off when reach's the top, it's tilting!¿ So whatever tells it to stop is not happening.

Ok so I guess I'm back to what you first suggested to see if it's getting video signal. Because it's trying.

This solder joint looks bad on pickup. I guess I'll just have to scratch my head on the scehmatics until figure what that is for. Then I'll try to resolder it.

It might be the tilt led. It makes sense.

I think those pins go to diodes. Little box. With four pins., I have no idea what that's attached to maybe the pins are just anchors to connect two ribbons.

Ya the Trace is broken. On that bottom ribbon. Looks like it's time for tiny soldering tip.
