Even though that tells me without a doubt that the batteries are fine & the remote is transmitting, I did try new ones & It didn't make any difference.

I'm 90% sure there's no one in this area that does electronics repair/troubleshooting, but I'll look into it.
I was hoping yourself or another member of the forum, could recommend a replacement/aftermarket remote.

Yes, it does suck

Thanks for the replies.

My previous reply (the one above) didn't make any sense.
I have established that the remote control is working fine, the problem is with the disc changer receiver unit.
That means I'll have to find someone to work on it. So I guess my only request for the forum, would be from someone else who went through this, to share the info, how much it cost, etc.

Thanks

Have you tried changing the Command Mode - DVD 1, 2, 3 on the remote and unit itself to see if you get the same results on all three settings? Plus just make sure both remote and unit are set to the same code. (see page 16)

About one hour ago, I decided to try it one more time, & it worked!

Obviously I'm very happy, but that's so damn weird. The last thing I tried was unplugging the unit for approximately one minute. I did that about a week ago. I was very leery of doing this, because someone said that If I did so, I could possibly lose all the data/info I'd entered for the DVDs, music CDs, etc.
It didn't work.

I tried it at least 3 or 4 different times on 3-4 different days after that, (just trying to turn it on with the remote control) & it never worked, even if I held the remote directly in front of the receiver window.
The last time I tried (before today) was about 3 days ago.
Between then & today, I made ZERO changes.

But it seems to be working fine now, & just as importantly, all the data is still there!
I just tried again, I'm about 15 feet away in my kitchen, and it's working flawlessly.
Weird

Thanks to all of those who replied

Please Wait reading discs mode forever..Fix?

The DVP-CX 995V was working flawlessly until it was shipped. Now the door open and closes twice and then goes into Reading Discs Please Wait mode for ever. When this happens the carousel also does not turn but does make a whirring noise. There are no discs in the unit. Anyone have had this problem? What's the fix?

Thanks in advance.

it's been awhile since I've had mine but I do know I had a problem. When I opened it up the black band had broke on the pulley that moves the carousel, the motor would spin which is what I would hear with the whirring noise. I actually found a normal rubber band about the same size and used that instead for many months until I found the proper replacement.

I just got one of these. When in the menus the player is slow to respond to commands from the remote and if I do too many commands too fast it will freeze and shut down. DVDs play fine.

Anyone had menu problems?

The circa 2005 menus on this unit are very slow and outdated, but I've never experienced freezing or lockups. It's typically best to do almost everything (Audio Track, Skip Disc, Wide Mode, etc.) through the direct remote function buttons and avoid the menu whenever possible. I only use the onscreen menu to input a specific disc number, but you can also use the Disc Skip +/- buttons if you just need to move a few slots.

I have now worn out 2 995Vs. I have one used one that I bought that is now doing the job and a second that is in the repair shop. Yes. I keep one is reserve

I have found that the HDMI does not work well on my Sony XBR 65X850D. People's faces come out a shade of green. This is after loading the firmware update.

I am back to using component cable and a digital audio cable and it works fine.

Sure wish Sony would come out with an updated carousel player.

Still very happy with the machine.

I was finally able to get mine back in business over the weekend.

I purchased in 2009, it decided to stop working in 2013 with disc read errors. Last month got around to pulling the cover thinking it was the laser, after watching a few discs load I realized it wasn't spinning the disc. Found a replacement motor on ebay with the same numbers, swapped it yesterday and it works great. Hope it lasts many more years.

Will a Sony DVP-CX995V Disc Explorer 400 HDMI play nice with Samsung 4K TV?

I have a Oppo103D and a Panny DMP-UB900 for my bluray/4k viewing with my Samung KS8000 ...
I have a few hundred hard to find (sort of!) DVDs that I would like to store away, but I saw a Sony DVP-CX995V unit for sale on kijiji locally for not too much money and I'm thinking I could use that to store my dvds. I know the unit is from 2005-6 but the seller says the unit was serviced recently and has proof of it. I went to the internet and watched a few videos and in one video, an ebay seller was telling viewers that the HDMI on the unit connection was outdated and that it MIGHT not work with newer 4K TVs...can anyone here provide me with some feedback/first hand experience with this issue pls? I dont want to risk buying it only to discover it doesn't work with my 4K tv!
thanks so much

I went and connected the Sony directly to my LG set bypassing the receiver. Works just fine.

I can confirm that this is true. I bought a Sony 65X850D. When I hooked it directly to the DVD player with a good HDMI the picture color looked like someone drove through a mud puddle and splashed dirty water on the screen.

That's the best description I can give. I hooked it through the Yamaha receiver. Same issue.

Thinking that something was wrong the HDMI plug, I took the unit to a repair place that had replaced the laser a couple years before. He had the same issue with a newer 4K TV, but not with a High Def TV (Sony KDL52W400).

So, that left component video, which worked fine. Picture quality was good on the newer 4K, but limited.

one last question if I may...I read in some older reviews that the Sony 400 cd/dvds changers have the tendency to scratch some discs and render them unplayable? has anyone experienced a similar issue?
one of the explanations i read is that the discs are so tight inside the loading mechanism that they get scratched and some people recommend not loading them to full capacity but instead leaving one slot in between discs....any thoughts? thanks
Erick

I have 1 - 54 loaded with CD's and 101 - 399 loaded with DVD's. I certainly don't use this as much as I used to, but I've never known it to scratch a disc.

Mine has been loaded up with discs since 2006 and have noticed only a few scratches but nothing that ever interfered with playback. I also recommend setting the DVD upscaling to 1080i on the player itself. 12 years later it's still working fine with regular use every week, although I did pick up two extras on CL for $50-$100 each just in case I experience problems with the original unit.

I have two machines. One in use, and one in the box. Mine is currently holding about 375 disks. I have "some" light scratches, but, nothing that interferes with playback. I will be selling both machines soon as I am converting my collection to digital.

Find a shop that will do maintenance/repair on them. My local guy says he cannot find any parts for them these days. I take one machine out of service for cleaning/adjustment and put the other one to use. I do this on a yearly basis as they both get plenty of use.

We recently upgraded from a 39" Westinghouse 1080p LED TV to a LG 49UJ6200 4K UHD HDR TV. We've had this new TV for a week. Our DVP-CX995V is not working with HDMI on this TV. It worked fine on our Westinghouse, but the LG is saying it cannot pick up a video signal from it. I have tried all of my HDMI cables and every port directly on the TV and on my Yamaha receiver, but got the same results.

I spent at least 30mins with Sony tech support only for them to come to the conclusion that the HDMI port on the DVD player must be broken, despite me telling them it was working just fine on our old TV a week ago. I didn't have to move the player at all, simply unplugged the HDMI cable only to hook it up again. For what it's worth the new TV is able to pick up video from the component outputs on the DVD player, but I really need HDMI to work because of how my equipment is set up.

Any idea if there's a fix for this?

Did you verify yours has the firmware update installed that fixes known HDMI issues?

Yes, I have updated the firmware that fixed audio over hdmi a while back, but this problem persists. I was able to hook it up to the old TV one more time to verify it indeed still works, but still can't get it to work on the new TV.

LinkS 165ft HDMI Extender with Loop-out

FYI - I'd recommend this HDMI Extender with Loop-out for under $50 for anyone looking to connect their 400 DVD changer to a 2nd room. It splits the HDMI signal for the 1st (locally connected) HDTV or AV Receiver and then extends the 2nd HDMI signal over a Cat5e/Cat6 Ethernet cable to a different location. The unit passes 1080 video, 5.1 Dolby Digital or DTS sound and has an IR repeater. You can send audio & video to either room or both simultaneously. It's pretty much plug n play!

I sincerely do not think your HDMI is broken. I had the same problem with my Sony 65X850D Bravia 4K TV. It worked just fine with my HD Sony TV (KDL52W4100). I found a post (somewhere, can't remember where) that some 4K TVs just don't work with these old Sony DVD players. I tried HDMI converters to integrate Component Video cables to HDMI with unsatisfactory results. I ultimately just went with Component cable.
It still works

(Edit). I did take both machines into my repair place - they confirmed the HDMI connection was working. When hooked to HDMI, the picture had a greenish, brown splash effect - like you threw a bucket of dirty water onto the screen.

Just got 3 of these with remotes from local thrift store. Of the 3, one works great but 2 have “please wait” on screen and won’t come out if it. any ideas how to troubleshoot that?

Update: just found the culprit on one unit. Haven’t opened up the other unit yet. It was a loose belt. Tiny little rubber band sized black belt came loose and off pulley that starts the initial load sequence. Temp fix was to tie a knot in the band. Worked like new.

Guess my next stop is to try to find a pack of replacement bands belts I’ll just replace them all at the same time looks like they were all bought at the same time by the institution or school that was using them

This is great info. I have one of these, full of DVDs (all of Deadwood!) and it has sat unusable for a couple years, now. I have never taken the time to open it up, but the belt would surely explain its symptom (incessantly waiting to turn). Bolstered by your info, I will try to make time to take it apart. If you find belt replacement info, please do post!.

Thanks!

I own several Sony DVP-CX985V's and replaced the belts for one of them not too long ago. I posted a walk-through with pictures including a video of the end result over at the Blu-ray.com here. Also, the belts I purchased can be found on EBay here.

I'll have to perform surgery on one over the Christmas holidays. Sold all of mine, but one was returned with an error of the door stuck open. No idea what is causing that - any ideas?. May have to sell for parts if I can't get it fixed myself.
